HEIRESS REBORN: MARRYING HER EX-FIANCÉ-Chapter 93: Lilian’s pity (2)
Bad manners?
Her daughter?
Madam Hitson nearly choked at the brutal choice of words.
’’N-No, that...that’s not what I meant....Haha.’’ She struggled to maintain the smile on her lips.
This President Kingston really did not spare her daughter’s dignity. Which mother would stand aside and witness their child being insulted? No matter how unwilling Madam Hitson was, to allow the remark to pass silently like that, she had to for the sake of her family.
’’Then what do your words mean literally, madam?’’
’’T-That...’’ Madam Hitson was unsure of how to respond. Indeed, her intention was to blame her daughter’s unexpected behavior on the first young miss using the misinformation.
However, why was President Kingston speaking up for the first young miss? It was widely known that the young misses of the Kingston family were not on good terms. Shouldn’t the President Kingston be pleased that her enemy was in a bad situation?
Madam Hitson felt a mix of uncertainty, along with her anxiety.
’’W-Well...’’
’’Don’t be rude to my mother.’’ Lilian frowned, stepping up for her mother. The accusations should be thrown at herself, not her mother. She disapproved of how the latter seemed speechless and stuttered continuously.
All because of a young lady close to her own age.
Wordlessly, Ayana shifted her gaze to the actual cause of her long stay in this birthday banquet. She and Noah had planned to say their greetings once and for all, and leave without hesitation.
Until this young lady expressed her displeasure towards their acts of ignoring Liam.
’How annoying.’ Ayana inwardly scowled. She just had to go through the same experience of Liam’s unending admirers, even in this life. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
’’May I ask which young miss you are?’’
Madam Hitson’s pupils dilated when she heard the question. It was over for her daughter and their family once President Kingston learned of their last name. Panic surged through her and the only course of action was to apologize for her daughter’s rudeness.
’’Presi....’’ Madam Hitson was about to act on her thoughts until her daughter went ahead to expose their family’s last name.
’’I am Young miss Hitson.’’ Lilian introduced herself in a bold manner.
’’Hitson?’’ Ayana repeated softly.
Her eyes shifted slightly at the familiar name. ’’The Hitson family involved in winery and brewery?’’
She remembered a business collaboration with a winery and brewery company bearing the name Hitson.
On the side, Madam Hitson’s heart almost leaped out from her chest when she heard of her family’s business. She wanted to intervene in the conversation, but her daughter was not even giving her a chance.
’’Yes, my father is the CEO of my family’s business.’’ Lilian replied, feeling slightly proud.
’’I see, so you’re Young miss Hitson. I want to ask if you know me?’’
’’W-What?’’ Lilian stammered, clearly caught off guard by the question.
’’...You’re President Kingston of the Kingston corporation.’’ She replied slowly, feeling somewhat skeptical about the silly question.
There was no one in this birthday banquet who wouldn’t know of the President Kingston. Why was the person herself asking of that?
’’Indeed, I am President Kingston.’’ Ayana confirmed, a faint smile playing on her lips. ’’ But do we actually know each other, Young miss Hitson?’’ Her gaze peered intensely into Lilian’s.
’’.....’’
’’I only learned of your identity at this birthday banquet.’’ She continued. ’’Yet, you rudely accused me and my elder brother for something that is of no concern to you, a stranger.’’
’’I-I’m only standing up for a poorly treated member of your family, President Kingston.’’ Lilian immediately defended herself, not backing down.
’’Poorly treated?’’ Ayana raised an eyebrow. ’’Then why haven’t I heard of your friendship with the first young master then?’’
The First young master?
Lilian instantly became puzzled. Why did the President Kingston mention the First young master?
She glanced curiously at the quiet man before her, only to meet his gaze that carried a hint of amusement.
Lilian was startled and quickly averted her gaze. For some reason, her heart raced faster with guilt, but she inwardly assured herself that her actions were not wrong.
She was only standing up for her first and cherished love.
"I and the First young master are merely acquaintances, President Kingston.’’ If not strangers, because she and the first young master have never met until this birthday banquet.
’’Merely acquaintances?’’ Ayana’s lips curved into a smile that did not reach her eyes. ’’Your words amuse me greatly, Young miss Hitson.’’
"Noah has been ill for as long as I can remember." She continued. "Yet I’ve never heard of you, an acquaintance speaking up for him—not when Mr. Smith has repeatedly been referred to as the first young master of this family, Young Miss Hitson."
"....." The air seemed to freeze as Lilian was unable to retort to those sharp words.
"My uncle and aunt might have acknowledged Mr. Smith as their adopted son," Ayana went on, regardless of the tensed atmosphere. "But I have never seen him as my cousin or a true member of the Kingston family. Who are you to call my actions rude when you’ve stood silent all this time? Or better yet, as a stranger to my family?"
"...I-I..." Lilian’s words faltered, her confident demeanor crumbling under those piercing words.
"Your intentions here, whatever they might be, are of no concerns to me.’’ Ayana said, deliberately taking a step closer, her voice soft yet imposing.
Her gaze narrowed down pointedly at the trembling eyes of Lilian’s. ’’But if you intend to involve yourself in my family’s affairs, you’d better come prepared with more than just empty words."
As a top businesswoman with experience in the world of men, Ayana had developed a particularly strong charisma that rivalled that of powerful businessmen.
A mere young miss like Lilian could never handle the pressure, which incurred her to react instinctively and take a step back as though filled with fear.
Her reaction elicited some murmurs from the surrounding guests. Even the gazes were mocking on her and Madam Hitson.
A young miss like going against the powerful President Kingston for an adopted young master....even against the first young master....
One could imagine how Lilian’s reputation would go down the drain after the birthday banquet. Even the Hitson’s family business would be undoubtedly affected.
Madam Hitson would have been conscious of the gazes and whispers for her daughter’s sake, but apologizing to the President Kingston was far more important for the sake of their family and the family business.
Her husband would undoubtedly blame her if the company was affected because of this.
Just as Madam Hitson decided to use this chance to intervene, another voice suddenly spoke up before hers.
’’President Kingston, May I apologize in Young miss Hitson’s stead?’’
