Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Ugly Ghost

Even though he had such thoughts, he was still grateful toward Lana, who had not only understood his situation but had even extended a hand to help.

He repeatedly thanked her, while Lana simply waved her hand and walked away.

Mr. Crow, perched on Lana’s shoulder, couldn’t hold back his surprise and asked, "Why did you give him your number?"

Lana smiled and replied, "Because I saw someone with potential."

In truth, the vision she had didn’t only show the man’s death.

It also showed him waking up early every day, taking care of his daughter, while that same daughter, an excellent weapon designer, worked tirelessly.

Lana felt her heart tighten. ’I know that girl... and I know the pain this man carries.’

The reason she gave him her number was simple: Megan Smith was a well-known weapon designer who would later be praised as one of the nation’s geniuses.

She would have everything: fame, recognition, and talent, but at the peak of her career, Megan would commit suicide.

It had been one of the most depressing incidents of that era. Later, it was revealed that Megan had a father who did everything in his power to support her dreams, even taking a dangerous job that eventually led to his death.

From then on, young Megan struggled alone. When she finally got into Shadowridge University, she studied relentlessly and rose to fame as a brilliant weapon designer.

But even then, a deep hollowness remained in her heart. In the end, she was unable to fight her depression and died before showing the world her full potential.

Even though Lana and Megan had barely crossed paths, since by the time Megan joined Shadowridge, Lana had already been kicked out, Lana couldn’t bear the thought of such a promising life being cut short again.

Meanwhile, Mr. Crow shook his head and muttered,

"You weren’t even ready to spend a thousand dollars on eye lenses. And here you are giving ten million away. Are you really planning to hand that guard and his daughter ten million just because you pity them? Can’t you pity yourself even a little?"

Hearing his lecture, Lana laughed and said,

"I’m fortunate to have you worrying about me. But if I don’t help them now, two lives will be lost. I don’t care much about others, but I have a bottom line. A human life can never be compromised. I don’t want to see someone die in front of me."

Mr. Crow sighed dramatically and muttered, "You’re practically a holy mother who wants to help everyone..."

Lana raised an eyebrow and replied, "If that’s the case, then don’t be surprised if someday I hand you over as a sacrificial offering for someone’s ritual."

Mr. Crow gasped, staring at her with horror.

"What kind of language are you even speaking?! Are you hearing yourself?! How can you talk about me so casually?!"

Lana burst into laughter at how flustered he became. "Do you really think I’d hand you over to someone?"

Mr. Crow let out a breath of relief, patting his chest with his wings. "I almost believed you would..."

Lana smirked. "You’re rejoicing too fast. I would hand you over." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Mr. Crow was furious and immediately began pecking her with his beak. Lana dodged him while laughing as they entered the elevator.

Just as the doors closed, the lights began flickering. Lana looked up and sighed. "The ghost really can’t give me a moment of fun."

Mr. Crow asked warily, "Did you see something?"

Lana stared around the elevator, which was practically oozing with black clouds, and muttered, "There’s a lot of evil qi here."

Mr. Crow narrowed his eyes. "What are you planning to do?"

Lana remained silent for a moment before saying,

"Nothing. I need to preserve my energy for whatever is ahead. What if I encounter a thirty-year-old ghost later? If I waste my mystic energy here, I’ll be helpless afterward."

Mr. Crow shook his head. "And what if a ghost shows up now?"

Lana immediately glared at him. "If you dare to jinx it, I’ll..."

Before she could finish, a head suddenly appeared right in front of her.

Lana nearly screamed as she stumbled back, patting her chest rapidly.

An upside-down girl hung from the elevator ceiling, her long hair falling straight down like dripping water. Her eyes were wide, her pupils tiny dots swallowed by enlarged sclera the size of ping-pong balls.

Her lips were curved into an eerie, stitched-like smile as she stared at Lana from side to side.

Lana took deep breaths, muttering, "It’s fine... I can deal with it..."

However, using their connection, she cursed Mr. Crow, ’Mr. Crow, you truly know how to Jinx!’

She shut her eyes for a moment.

Mr. Crow stood firm, his gaze sharp as he stared around the elevator with a narrowed gaze.

When Lana opened her eyes again, the woman was leaning closer, amusement flickering across her monstrous expression. Lana clicked her tongue.

"Hey, don’t do that... It’s ugly."

The woman suddenly growled at Lana, and it was indeed scary. Lana resisted the urge to slap the ghost, since her hand wouldn’t touch anything in the end...

Taking out an exorcism talisman, she waved it in front of the ghost and grinned, "Do you know what it is?"

The ghost obediently shook its head, while her eyes stared at the talisman with a wary expression.

"It’s your death sentence." Lana laughed evilly and flicked it toward the woman.

The woman froze, her eyes widening, instinctively sensing danger. She quickly backed away.

However, the yellow talisman, as if it had eyes of its own, flew straight toward the woman.

She screeched in agony, howling so loudly that almost anyone else would have peed their pants upon hearing it.

But Lana remained firm. ’Showing fear in front of a ghost is stupidity.’

She watched as the woman slammed violently against the elevator walls, trying desperately to escape the talisman.

But all her efforts were useless. She couldn’t shake it off.
