Full-Time Public Enemy-Chapter 763 - 523: Queen of the Bugs
If one were to view this from the perspective of a solitary battlefield satellite, the vast expanse of reddish-blue mixed terrain resembled a grand, abstract painting of boundless scope. Yet, thick swaths of black were now converging from two directions, forming arrowhead shapes and continuously drawing nearer to each other.
Meanwhile, more than a dozen dazzling points of light, like nascent stars, burst through between these two arrowheads ahead of everything else.
The two black arrowheads collided uncontrollably, entangling into a nebulous turmoil.
The students' Mechas were exceptionally capable, breaking out of the insect encirclement just a step ahead—but it was only a single step's lead.
Lin Xiaochen and another student with military connections in his family, Liao Mingliang, looked back only to see the two approaching insect swarms crash into each other. The insects at the forefront were too swift to stop in time, resulting in dozens of them colliding, shattering their carapaces and breaking their limbs.
Nevertheless, the two massive swarms swiftly merged, buzzing as they altered their course to continue the pursuit.
The swarm was a vast, dark, sprawling mass, filled with many insectoids they had never encountered before.
A quick glance revealed three or four types of bizarre insects they had never seen before, making them shiver with dread: "Chen Gu!"
"I heard that the recent battles with the insects aren't quite the same as before. The insects often evolve into all kinds of strange new breeds."
"The degree to which the insects value a major battle can be inferred from the number of these new breeds they deploy."
"A battle that introduces four types of new insects is definitely harder to fight than one that presents three types."
Lin Xiaochen shivered inside his Mecha. "Chen Gu, in this huge swarm behind us, I've spotted four new types of insects… The headmaster has set us up!"
On Chen Gu's Mecha visor, synchronized data analysis instantly began cross-referencing the approaching insect types with the military database, quickly identifying two new types.
Lin Xiaochen only said there were four because he didn't recognize two of them.
But before Chen Gu could clarify this with Lin Xiaochen, a dark cloud suddenly appeared in the sky to their left.
Then the cloud dispersed violently, revealing dozens of bizarrely large flying insects, each tens of meters in size.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! The data analysis system on Chen Gu's helmet sounded an alarm: New Species!
These newcomers didn't resemble insects as much as they did the pterosaurs of the Mother Planet's ancient times. Yet, as they neared, their bodies convulsed, and two smaller heads emerged from slits on either side of their necks.
With a twitch of their tails, each one split into five!
From each of their three heads, they sprayed bio-plasma bombs, while their tails, like machine guns, rapidly fired toxin-laden stingers—PFFT! PFFT! PFFT!—with relentless precision. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Ordinary flying insects were too small to cause much damage to the students' Mechas, even when attacking.
But these new, large variants, especially with their bio-plasma bombs, could severely damage a Mecha with a single hit.
Without waiting for Chen Gu's command, everyone quickly scattered, activating their weapons to retaliate while their propulsion systems ran ceaselessly, continuing their escape into the distance.
And on the ground, still more insects were converging for the kill.
As Chen Gu fought back, he incessantly attempted to make contact via communications: "Where have Marshal Bai's promised military professionals gone? Why can't I reach them?"
An ominous feeling crept over Chen Gu. But then he reconsidered: Marshal Bai knew the dangers of this mission and would surely have dispatched the elite of the elite. It was unthinkable that they could have been wiped out immediately upon landing.
Although the students seemed beleaguered, each was a professional. They had received thorough training from influential families and the Huai Shan Branch School and possessed outstanding combat abilities. So, despite the danger, everyone could manage.
Even Qiao Shuangyi and Lin Xiaochen, the comical duo constantly screaming, "Chen Gu, save us!" hadn't actually encountered any real danger.
However, at that moment, Chen Gu's Mecha radar issued a burst of frantic alarms. Just over ten kilometers to their diagonal front, an oddly shaped heavy Mecha rushed out. It moved at an unbelievably fast speed, its power systems clearly overloading to the point the entire Mecha was on the verge of falling apart. It hurtled ahead, then lobbed a strange bomb at the gigantic flying insects.
"Run for it!" Lin Xiaochen, scared out of his wits, desperately warned everyone. Chen Gu didn't need the reminder; he was the first to sprint forward.
The heavy Mecha abruptly braked. Its entire structure contorted, components emitting loud CREAKS and GROANS as it barely came to a halt. Then, it turned and took off, seemingly faster than it had arrived.
BOOM—
The bomb was hurled out, smashing the head of a flying insect in midair, then tilted to one side and fell. Halfway down, it violently shuddered, emitting a blinding flash of light before exploding in the sky.
Two consecutive, nearly conjoined pale-blue shockwaves ground the entire flock of flying insects to dust. Towering flames swept into the sky, culminating in a dark-red mushroom cloud rushing towards the heavens…
The luckless students felt as if someone had shoved them from behind. Then, everything went black. When they slowly came to their senses, they found themselves hundreds of meters away, buried deep in loose soil.
