Chapter 111: Chapter 111: It’s Okay Now, Sweetheart

Surprise turned into shock; originally, Ethan Blackwood wanted to give her a memory that she’d never forget.

Forgettable indeed, but all the positive feelings were ultimately replaced by fear.

All her nerves stretched tight in the sea collapsed at this moment, emotions overwhelmed her, a complete mess.

Her whole body trembled uncontrollably in Ethan’s arms, Claire Shaw tightly clutched Ethan’s hand, even her voice shook, "It’s Owen, it must be him, I met him last night!"

Ethan’s brows furrowed, gently comforting Claire in his embrace: "Hm, Luna, calm down."

Claire was already out of danger, and the investigation was what he needed to proceed with next.

But now Claire’s emotional fluctuation was too intense, and this was what’s truly terrifying; he had seen Claire’s outbursts before and didn’t want her to experience such painful memories again.

Yet whenever Claire closed her eyes, all she could see was the blood seeping from the gaps of the white car.

Scarlet, sticky.

And earlier in the sea, she almost burst her lungs; if Ethan hadn’t been by her side, she wouldn’t have pulled through.

Right now, she couldn’t take in a single word from Ethan, her entire body trembling uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face.

"The white chrysanthemum was from him, the harassment texts must be sent by him too, he wants me dead!"

Though Ethan didn’t need to think much to know that the person wanting to kill Claire wasn’t Owen; he had only desire and unfulfilled longing for Claire.

Perhaps he had thought of tormenting Claire, or finding ways to bring her back to him.

How could he possibly want Claire dead in such a manner?

The person wanting Claire dead was someone else!

Someone who knew her whereabouts, could swap her air tank, and even bribe the big truck driver.

This was no simple matter, meaning it couldn’t be done by the ordinary people Claire normally interacted with.

That person had a certain status and power.

But now, Claire’s mind was filled with resentment towards Owen, firmly believing it to be him, Ethan couldn’t provoke her.

"If it is him, I will help you take revenge, alright? Don’t be afraid, you have me."

He hugged Claire tightly, patiently soothing her.

Claire didn’t understand; it seemed like he had a special magic that as long as she held him, her emotions could calm down slowly.

It was as if this embrace had held her countless times, and this voice she had heard countless times.

It hurt, her head hurt.

She must have met Ethan somewhere! But she couldn’t remember.

The waves crashed against the rocks, seagulls skimmed across the sky, occasionally you could hear a few bird calls, a cruise passed by in the distance, and the sea surface continued to ripple gently in the sea breeze.

Claire’s emotions gradually stabilized, with traces of dried tears still on her face.

Ethan wiped her tears, "Good, it’s fine now."

The platinum plain ring on his finger glimmered lightly in the sunlight, catching Claire’s attention.

She then came to realize, "Sorry, I messed up the ceremony you painstakingly prepared."

Ethan reached out and lightly tapped her nose, "It was laid out for you anyway, you’ve already seen it, each rose fulfilled its destiny, how can it be wasted? Are you feeling better now?"

Claire nodded, with shimmering tear drops still clinging to her long eyelashes, she hesitantly said: "Just... just... my legs feel a bit weak, maybe rest a bit longer?"

Seeing her face no longer consumed by fear, Ethan’s lips curled into a gentle smile as he crouched before Claire: "Come on, I’ll carry you home."

Home.

Claire liked this word very much; she looked at the ring on her finger that matched his.

It seemed like from now on she wouldn’t be alone anymore.

She lay on Ethan’s back, her arms wrapped around his neck, her red lips rested on his neck, "Ethan, will you ever leave me in the future?"

Though carrying her, Ethan walked barefoot on the rocks like he was walking on flat ground, looking very relaxed.

He answered without hesitation, "I won’t, unless I die."

"Don’t ever mention death again!"

"Okay, then I won’t."

Claire was startled, and considering how peculiar the matter was, Ethan didn’t dare let her stay, so he greeted Sean Jacobs and took Claire away.

Knowing Claire didn’t like ostentation, he even borrowed a tens of thousands Volkswagen for their ride back.

As Claire got in the car, Owen Crawford happened to see her from afar.

His gaze landed on that Volkswagen, a mocking smile emerged at his lips.

Utterly mistaken thinking Claire had found someone capable and wealthy; she was truly foolish.

Then came anger; she would rather choose an ordinary person than be with him.

Apparently, the lesson wasn’t enough!

The sunlight was too dazzling, all he could see was the man in the driver’s seat bending down, patiently fastening Claire’s seatbelt; the man’s face couldn’t be seen, and the car had already departed.

Ethan handed her a cup of lemon water, "The journey back will take a few hours, you can rest for a while."

"I can’t sleep." Claire held the water, sipping a few mouthfuls; its refreshing taste cleared her mind somewhat as her emotions hadn’t completely settled.

At a red light, his hand covered Claire’s cold back of hand.

"I’ve already asked someone to thoroughly investigate the troubles you’ve encountered recently, there will be results soon, don’t be too tense, you have me."

"Hmm."

"If it’s really not an accident, and someone wants to take your life, living alone is dangerous, I suggest having a man around would be much safer."

Claire bit the straw, "You mean... living together? Isn’t that progressing too fast?"

Too fast? He felt it was too slow; he wished he could propose today, marry tomorrow, and walk down the aisle with Claire the day after tomorrow, directly expecting twins, a boy resembling him, and a girl resembling Claire.

Of course, he feared his ideas would scare Claire away; she had just been through a shock and couldn’t be rushed.

"Luna, first of all, we’re already in a mutually recognized relationship, secondly, we’ve already been intimate, connected heart to heart, you’re just a woman after all, and since you’ve encountered trouble, living together is reasonable."

Upon saying this, Ethan suddenly undid his seatbelt and leaned over, the cool scent of a man lingering around the nose.

His hand reached out to stroke Claire’s cheek, gliding down her smooth little face to her slender neck.

The rough texture of his fingertip gently brushed against her blood vessels, his voice low and alluring in her ear: "Moreover... we’re grown-ups now, don’t you have desires too?"

This sly fox of a man, whenever he wanted to achieve a purpose, he would use this trick to tempt her.

Just her pathetic self, every time she was controlled by this trick, without fail.

Like right now, his provocative gaze sweeps across her lips, making Claire feel her whole body tingle.

She craved his kiss, his touch, his body’s warmth.

Claire nibbled her straw sipping some lemon water, trying to awaken her lucid mind.

The man took the opportunity to draw closer, fingers pinching her little chin, his head tilted staring into her eyes.

Close enough that another inch forward would kiss each other’s lips.

"Luna, tell me, do you want me..."

She licked her lips, "I..."

The man’s nose brushed against hers, fingers gently caressed her skin, voice tinged with melancholy:

"If we live together, every night you won’t be alone, I’ll be with you."
