Endless Debt-Chapter 984 - 69: The Road of Escape (Part 3)
"Are you sure?" Shelley asked skeptically.
Palmer affirmed, "I’m sure, he’s the best among us."
"What about Church?"
Hart asked again, raising the Giant Shield, the heavy surface of the shield crisscrossing the corridor, blocking the enemy’s path like a giant wall.
"I don’t know, but he should be fine," Palmer said, "Bologue and I... well, to be precise, Bologue is attracting all the enemies’ attention to himself, he’s buying us opportunities."
"Alright."
Hearing Palmer’s words, Hart knew what he had to do.
Under the continuous surge of Ether, the defense of the Giant Shield was faltering, intense heat attacking the metal, and cracks spread across its surface. Even with Hart’s strength, it was difficult to withstand the relentless assault from the enemy.
"I’ve had enough."
Hart suddenly declared loudly, tearing off his shirt and ripping away his mask, revealing black fur that rapidly extended and radiated steaming heat.
Since undergoing Bestial Transformation, Hart had been troubled by the problem of his body’s heat dissipation.
The thick fur covered Hart’s body, and with any intense movement, his temperature would soar. Like a beast, his means of cooling down were extremely limited.
Under the influence of high temperatures, Hart’s temper would become very irritable.
"Let’s go!"
Hart hoisted the Giant Shield, telling Palmer and the others to retreat, but instead charged directly at the Shield Guards in front of him.
The Shield Guards were briefly caught off guard, they initially thought Hart belonged to the Origin School, but after he raised the Giant Shield, Hart suddenly transformed into a beast—clearly an Ascendant School power.
Hart possessed immeasurable strength, the heavy shield directly overwhelming one Shield Guard, as Hart rode atop the shield. Initially, he could still feel the Ether response below him, but as he hammered down with heavy blows, Hart forcefully crushed a Shield Guard through it, blood gushing from the cracks where it met the ground.
Hoisting the shield, below it lay a bloody, mangled corpse; Hart raised the shield high, protecting Palmer and the others from attacks, while retreated step by step.
Once the four regrouped, the battle proceeded much more smoothly, and before long, they successfully fought their way out from the Fog Abyss Fortress, drenched in blood and steaming with heat.
"For some unknown reason, those Silent Ones suddenly returned inside the Fog Abyss Fortress, which allowed us to break in like this."
Kemp panted heavily, explaining to Palmer what had just occurred.
"Silent Ones?" Palmer recalled, "You wouldn’t want to know what transpired inside."
Bologue, like a Demon God, slaughtered countless Silent Ones, seizing untold power from their bodies. Sometimes Palmer felt his partner’s strength was absurdly formidable, other times he thought of him as quite unfamiliar.
"Are you sure he can escape?"
Kemp hesitated, "We just sensed..."
"Sensed the power of a Seeker of Glory?" Palmer asked, "Yes, I felt it too, even clearer than you did, that power slapped me right in the face."
Palmer complained loudly, but quickly his voice steadied again.
"Bologue will be alright."
The four sprinted rapidly down the misty corridors, even escaping Fog Abyss Fortress wasn’t considered a safe haven.
Screams echoed from the Sea of Mist, the four halted their steps, gazing into the rolling dense mist sea, where a blinding green light rapidly ascended, strong enough for everyone in the area to witness.
Palmer was stunned for two seconds, then said, "Church succeeded."
They exchanged glances, their eyes revealing delight; this mission had been fraught with too many twists and turns, they’d nearly forgotten their initial objective.
The clamorous Ethereal Fluctuation surged from within Fog Abyss Fortress, swept through them like a shockwave, even caused a vibration in the Sea of Mist, creating ripples.
Nervously, Palmer gazed in the direction of Fog Abyss Fortress; after the impact, an astonishing quake sensation ensued, akin to an earthquake, the Fog Abyss Fortress shook violently, massive rock fragments shattering, collapsing, like a landslide, a portion of the fortress directly caved into the Sea of Mist.
Vaguely, Palmer saw, amid the chaotic collapse, a cyan figure speeding swiftly, his target being below the Sea of Mist.
"He’s truly gone mad..."
Only then did Palmer understand where Bologue’s confidence stemmed from, his initial plan was to infiltrate beneath the Sea of Mist to escape; after all, it wasn’t the first time he had done this.
Presumably, even the King’s Shield Guards were bewildered; being Undead, Bologue maximized his advantages of immortality to the fullest.
Since everyone had successfully retreated, there was no need to linger any longer.
The collapse gradually spread here, like a landslide, rocks falling, crushing the corridor built along the cliff.
"Run!"
Palmer shouted uncontrollably, surely without caring about his image.
Kemp was confused, despite not pausing, Palmer was howling something, then he noticed, threads of subtle wind accompanying their pace. Earlier, to keep stealthy, Palmer would perform Ethereal Concealment. Now, having almost torn down half of Fog Abyss Fortress, Palmer stopped pretending.
Secret Energy fully unleashed, the subtle wind transformed into gusts of furious wind, accompanying the squad, clearing the perplexing Sea of Mist along the way, increasing their speed significantly, as they sprinted unreservedly on the aerial corridors.
The dense fog was swept away by the fierce winds, gradually clearing the view, revealing the path of escape.
