Echoes of the Wild: Tales of a Beast Tamer-Chapter 25: Improvements before the exam
Chapter 25 - Improvements before the exam
(Third PoV)
In the spacious outdoors one can see a beast running across various hurdles, who was being encouraged from the sidelines by a young boy.
They were none other than Snow and Chris.
After the fight with John and his lion, Chris learned a lot and adjusted accordingly. Though he learned a lot from that match, that is not enough. So, as he planned, he visited the school to fight and rest for two days.
In those two days, though it was assigned as rest, that was the last thing on the agenda. Chris would recall his movements during the matches and learn from the mistakes that he made.
He won some of the matches and lost some but he learned a lot from the matches and with that, both he and Snow improved a lot.
"Done", Chris shouted out loud as the course was completed.

He picked up the tired Snow and rubbed its body, "That's a record", he announced to her.
From the battles, Chris understood one thing. He can never defeat an opponent using Snow's strength. Snow is a fox and foxes have weaker bodies but they have good reflexes and run pretty fast.
So, the best way to use a fox beast in battle was to make use of its agility to the maximum. Only in this way can he win battles against opponents.
The main tactic was to kite the opponent. This is the only tactic that Snow can use now to win against stronger enemies.
For example, when Snow fought the Lion, which has tremendous strength, taking a strike from it would have ended the match. Two or three strikes from lion beasts, the fox beasts would be dead.
So, the best way to win against a lion beast was to kite it.
Even though the strikes are not powerful, as time goes on, the damage would be plentiful to weaken the lion beasts.
One may think why does the lion take the attack instead of just dodging it?
Every beast has their strengths and weaknesses.
Lion beasts have a high strength value. When they strike and if that hit lands on the opponents, that would be it for most of the beasts.
The issue with the lion beasts was the agility. They can't react as fast as some other cat-related beasts.
Of course, even though their agility is low, as long as they can land a strike on the opponent, that would be it for the opponent. There would be little chance of escape after that.
It was not just the Lion Beasts. There are many others.
No beast would be the best in all attributes. It would have a good attribute and a bad attribute. Balance as nature intends to.
It is also why humans can only become tamers as of now to get power. Even when they do, they can only get a skill from the bonded beast, nothing else.
Of course, at higher ranks, tamers could fly whether they have flying skills or not. The beasts can also do that but the requisite for both is that they have to reach the Gold rank to be able to fly.
So, no one is omnipotent, Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.
This is why, high-ranking tamers would bond with beasts of different categories, but that wouldn't be always possible to do so unless you have a very rich background or they are strong enough to traverse various lands to get what they want.
Some forests have a high amount cat related beasts, like lions, leopards, cheetahs etc..., while some have wolves, foxes etc...
So, most shops in a city would sell the beasts that are local to that area. Bringing beasts from faraway lands would be pretty inconvenient and cost a lot.
If it was an egg, they have to make sure that the egg wouldn't get damaged in the transport or hatch before it finds its master.
If they were transporting a beast, then they should feed it along the way and make sure that it won't escape or die along the road.
Also, beasts of an area are accustomed to the food of that area. So, they may not accept food from other areas. It is a headache for the beast shops that sell them.
The costs are a lot. So only when there was a custom order, the shops would try to bring them.

A lot of things improved in the status of Snow and Chris in the past few days. Chris and Snow worked so hard for the past few days to achieve that.

With a status like this, he is more than ready to face the academy exam but not quite yet. There is something else that he needs to do.
There would be many students who should have reached the Bronze Rank by now, but Chris is still far away. Only when reaches the Bronze Rank, can he bind with another pet.
The problem was that he was still three levels away, while his pet was ready to reach the next rank. When Snow reaches bronze rank, he would get a very high boost and he could reach Bronze Rank or may stop in Iron rank.
It depends on the boost that he can get for ranking his pet. It differs from person to person. So there was no clear indication of how much one can increase after their pet reaches the next rank.
One could only wait and see to know that.
Many of the rich students would have reached Bronze by now and would have two pets and two skills to fight but what Chris has is not exactly a fighting skill. So, what he decided to do was to rank her up and that would give him a chance to bond with another pet, which would give him an attack skill.
He doesn't like to be a sitting duck while Snow attacks the enemy and also has to protect him from enemies. It would be too much for Snow. So, having a second pet is a must for Chris.
"Tonight, you will reach Bronze Rank", Chris promised Snow.
It is getting late. Snow is tired and there is much to do in the night. So, Chris decided to end the training for the day and return home.
