Chapter 288: Life’s value part 2

Leo raised his right-hand high. The massive gauntlet he was wearing made it seem impossible that he could lift his arm that easily, without apparent effort. The Vanir’s eyes showed that he wasn’t willing to give any mercy to those healers.

The healer closest to him felt a chill running down his spine. He knew that, if the next attack got him, he wouldn’t just be sent flying away but die instantly. He could sense that the Vanir was going to use his full power now. Leo’s eyes showed a bloodthirsty that left no doubt about it.

Once his hand moved vertically, faster than anyone could imagine, the healer reacted just in time and leaped to the side. If not for his swiftness, he wouldn’t be able to dodge such a rapid and strong blow.

Leo’s attack landed on the ground, breaking it like someone punching glass.

Seeing the asphalt getting destroyed so lightly like that was something inconceivable for the healers. The pressure that the blow exerted in the air made the group retrieve more not to lose their balance and prevent getting hit by asphalt shards.

They, obviously, wouldn’t be just waiting to see what the guy would do next. Their counterattack came once they could fix their feet on the ground.

The four remaining healers took off their scalpels, positioning them swiftly between their fingers, then throwing them against the man.

Their aim was almost perfect. The scalpels traced a straight line in the air and landed in the vital points of that giant man.

Not just that, but one of those projectiles was tied to a thin line, which a healer held. Once it got carved on Leo’s skin, he pressed a button on a device hanging on his waist.

A potent electricity wave ran through that thin line, electrocuting Leo. Its potency was far beyond 1500 volts. A normal human shouldn’t be able to resist such power. The smell of burnt flesh rose in the air as Leo’s body convulsed slightly.

Even though that electric current was continuous and powerful, the man didn’t fall to the ground. After several seconds, the healers were panicking inside their minds, wondering what was wrong with that guy.

’Just some of the scalpels could get stuck on his flesh. The others just fell, because couldn’t enter too deep. His muscles are like an iron plate!’ The healer holding the line thought, biting his lip in frustration. ’A potent electric current like this should be enough to kill someone in just some seconds, but he isn’t even convulsing that much.’

The other three healers, seeing that terrifying scene, decided to unite their powers to take that guy down. They also got scalpels and tied them to that metallic line, throwing them using all their strength, and activating the electric current afterward.

Nonetheless, although that high voltage was clearly doing a better effect on his body, Leo didn’t even kneel on the ground. He kept straight, his face lowered. The Vanir’s body wasn’t convulsing as crazily as it should be doing.

After 2 minutes like that, their devices ended up running out of energy and stopping to work.

Leo didn’t fall yet. His muscles were having abrupt contractions, but nothing major.

The atmosphere got quiet. They were so apprehensive that even the sound of shots and screams in the background couldn’t be heard. There was no trace of threat on that giant man for now, but they weren’t sure if they could get near him.

Bruskly, Leo raised his head. That scene seemed to get out from a horror movie.

His eyes were dyed in a strong blue color again. It was terrifying, but at the same time mesmerizing.

Soon, his veins got emphasized in his body, acquiring the same color as his eyes. His body began to shiver, which left the healers alarmed.

The pressure he was exerting made the air seem five times as dense, to the point where the healers couldn’t even breathe anymore. They tried to move and get away, or just draw a weapon, but it seemed impossible.

"I am not here to play around anymore! I already killed that Aesir, and now I will just wipe out these ants in front of me and end with this city once and for all!" His roar was incredibly loud, making the healer’s ears get hurt. They felt all their bones shaking from head to toe.

If that guy’s yell was so strong like this, they couldn’t imagine how his physical prowess was now. However, something was certain, their instincts were warning them, saying to the healers that they should run away as fast as possible!

They tried to move their legs, but no response. The same with their arms.

Another roar echoed across the city. As the color of Leo’s eyes got brighter and brighter, and so were his veins. He didn’t seem to be in pain, though, but extremely excited as he roared.

The last sound that the healers heard was the ground breaking again, but this time the entire street got cracked.

Leo appeared in front of the healer. The only thing that left him to get noticed, despite his monstrous figure, was the strong blue gleam in his eyes.

His fist was already making the move to deliver a punch.

The healer closed his eyes and put his hands in front of his face. He felt the will to cry in fear and surprise, but the tears wouldn’t have time to leave his eyes. He gave a last shrink, then heard the sound of a strong impact.

However, one second passed by, then two, three, four. He didn’t feel anything on his body. For a moment, he was sure that he already died and his death was fast enough to be painless.

This idea left his mind once he felt warm tears run down his face. He opened his slightly blurry eyes. He could notice the strong red color of someone’s hair that he would never mistake.

"R-Rurik." He lowered his arms, which were still trying to protect his face.

Rurik was standing in front of him. His body seemed to be totally unharmed, which should be impossible due to the attack he received and his collision against the building. The least he should have were several fractures on his bones.

"I am sorry for the wait. I didn’t see any openings before." He snapped his finger bones.

The four astonished healers moved their eyes to the construction on the opposite side of the street, which got thoroughly destroyed. Inside there, Leo’s body could be seen, lying on the wreckage.

"H-how?" The healer asked, but the Immortal Aesir didn’t give attention to his words.

Instead, he just turned to him to give his orders.

"Please, get out of here and take as many citizens and Ridires with you as possible. This fight is going to be awful."

The healers didn’t hesitate in moving quickly, getting away from that place. They helped his first knocked friend, healing him fastly and getting him with them.

They only saw Rurik being serious and not a depressed man when he was facing a high-risk situation at the Healing Center. If he was like this now, then something bad was going to happen.

The Immortal Aesir stayed still in the same spot, his hands inside the pockets of his coat. He looked intently at Leo as the guy stood up as if no harm was done on his body.

Indeed, he seemed to be unscathed, except for some peeling on his skin, or some strains of blood, he didn’t have any major harm.

’This guy is strange. I wonder what kind of thing he needed to pass for to get this much raw strength. And that’s not the only point here, there is something more behind it. His veins are swelled and have the same color as his eyes. There is some type of medicine or implant that is changing his body somehow. I have seen something like this in people who use Berserker, but the proportions are way bigger than that.’

Rurik wasn’t the only one astonished and curious about the power of his enemy. Leo was the same. As he got up from the ground, he thought:

’What kind of guy is he? Does he have an occult power or something? With the density that my muscles acquired, my weight is at its peak! For him to send me flying to such distance and at that high speed, then there is something wrong with him. And, although my last blow wasn’t my most powerful, I still should have had caused any harm to him...’

They stared at each other for some seconds. None of them were willing to converse to discover more about each other, though. What they had to solve, they would do while fighting.

Rurik kept standing without taking a defensive stance.

"Let’s play again, Lion. I won’t dodge at all, because I want to test your strength. Let’s see if you are as strong as you seem to be."
