CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 262: The Key of Thirst
The good thing about a Revenant was that it was denser with Chaos. Both of its body and soul was filled with Chaos, allowing Mater to gain more Chaos Spheres from it.
The revenant was a level 3 being. A wraith would yield 5 Chaos Spheres. But Mater got 7 Chaos Spheres instead.
The snow leopard licked its lips.
"Tasty!"
Crow and Mater continued on. They encountered many more free-roaming revenants. All of them were corrupted citizens of this once peaceful town. Crow had no problem in cleaning them. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Mater didn’t even have to do anything and just collected the Chaos Spheres.
"The second one!" Mater devoured the revenant entirely, increasing his total Chaos Spheres to 14.
"The third one!"
"The fourth one!"
"The fifth one!"
Most of them didn’t survive even one strike from Crow. Mater’s total Chaos Spheres reached 35.
"Oh? Now they come in a group."
Mater and Crow spotted five revenants walking together. Crow took less than a minute to deal with all of them. Mater’s Chaos Spheres reached 70.
"A fraction compared to where I was!" The snow leopard growled. He once had more than 500 Chaos Spheres. All of them were gone after the battle with the Ascendant.
"There are much more NCEs than I thought." Crow said, "We may need an entire day dealing with them."
Mater rubbed his paws together greedily, "Doesn’t matter! We kill them all!"
Assassin and his trusty familiar, Spots, disappeared for an entire day. Colonel Donovan told his subordinates to keep a close eye on the Void Gates. But none disappeared.
Assassin didn’t even return to the base even after sun down.
"What is he doing? I hope he isn’t dead." Colonel Donovan frowned.
"Should we go out and look for him, Colonel?" A soldier said.
"Stick to protocol. If we don’t see anything after 72 hours, just report him as MIA. Then we’ll report back for someone else to come."
MIA as Missing-in-Action.
Crow and Mater didn’t go back because they were busy dealing with all the revenants. They killed at least a hundred of them throughout the day. Most were level 3 revenants. Only a few were level 4 or 5. All of them were weaklings in front of Mater and Crow.
Mater’s total Chaos Spheres reached 709.
"Welp. That must be all of them. These should be enough to make Selina, Evelynn, and Blanche level 10." The snow leopard’s belly was comically large for a while before returning to normal.
"There might be something up ahead, Master." Crow said.
The leopard’s eyes turned into the Octagram Chaos Eyes.
"Oh? Invisibility?"
In front of them was a bone revenant. It only had a skeleton and no flesh. It held a scythe in its hand. Not the comical large scythe but an actual farming equipment.
Mater’s octagrams spun slowly as he examined the revenant.
"That thing is peak level 10. We can harness its Chaos Singularity." The leopard growled.
Crow nodded and summoned his short swords again, "Leave it to me, Master."
"Just stand there, Crow. I haven’t exercised all day. It’s time to move my bones a little bit."
The leopard cracked its head.
Mater used Death Plates and immediately, a suit of ice armor wrapped around the leopard.
He curled into a spike ball and rushed at the skeletal revenant. The ball of icy spikes slammed on the revenant and grinding it on the ground for a long distance.
The revenant shrieked loudly. It slashed at Mater with the scythe.
The scythe bounced away as ice shot out of the armor.
The body of the revenant slowly turned gray. It screamed even louder but no one saved it. Mater dragged it around for a trip.
When he returned to the original place, the skeleton only had its upper body left. Its lower body was ground away and scattered on the field.
The light in the revenant’s eyes disappeared.
"Feasting time!" Mater turned back to a leopard and bit down at the revenant.
He swallowed it entirely and absorbed its Chaos Singularity.
Sixteen Chaos Spheres and another Chaos Singularity.
This made Mater’s total Chaos Spheres to reach 725 and his Chaos Singularity to reach 3.
He had enough for another key.
"Magnificent, Master!" Crow clapped his hand and nodded approvingly. "This new Glacial Combo is very effective."
"Maybe. Now I need you to watch my back, Crow. I’m raising my level."
"Of course, Master!"
In this middle of nowhere, any strange phenomenon would just be linked to the Void Gates. A perfect place for Mater to level up.
"First let’s get rid of this mask."
Mater put away the Mimicry Mask and deactivated the Demonic Transformation Watch. He returned to his true self, a spicy black cat.
Mater floated to the air. His Lock of Biomechanism flew out of him.
It only had one keyhole at the moment. The keyhole for the Key of Hunger. To reach the higher level, Mater needed a keyhole for the second key. The Key of Thirst.
The three Chaos Singularity flew around the Lock of Biomechanism. Then at the same time, they entered the lock.
Slowly, a second keyhole appeared on the lock, beside the Key of Hunger.
Immediately, the sky of the surrounding area turned red. A pair of golden cat eyes looked down upon the place.
All of the soldiers inside the base had their hearts skip a beat. They experienced at the same time, terror from an unknown powerful being.
"What is the meaning of this?! Everyone! Ready your weapons! We must..." Colonel Donovan shouted. But he was quickly hypnotized by the eyes in the sky.
Everyone looked at the sky like brainless zombies. Soon, the sky returned to normal and no one even remembered what happened.
They only had a sense of experiencing something terrifying. But they couldn’t remember what.
"What’s going on, Colonel?" A soldier mumbled.
"I don’t know." The Colonel shook his head.
The second keyhole came into existence.
"Now. The Key of Thirst!"
Mater spat out 200 Chaos Spheres, reducing his total Chaos Spheres to 525.
The spheres spun around in a circle. Their Chaos flowed to the middle and formed a colorless transparent key.
The key quickly took form and flew to the Lock.
"It is done." Mater closed his eyes as the Key of Thirst entered the Bio-Lock.
