Chapter 141: Another way to exit part 2

Casper and Alfar stayed for some time sitting on the ground, though not for even a minute, since they couldn’t lose time there. Their heads were heavy as if it was about to explode, but they just ignored it and did their best to struggle and keep up with the plan.

"So, the next step is...?"

Casper looked towards Alfar, annoyed.

"I am starting to think that you were lying when you said you were a chemical. You know, your short-term memory is like of a goldfish."

Alfar kept quiet about that comment and just waited for his answer. Sometimes it was difficult for someone with the same personality as Casper to deal with an individual like Alfar. He had zero sense of humor and took some things in an overly serious way.

"Don’t sweat it, I was doing something called ’joke’. You are not funny..." The soldier raised from the ground, stretching his arms while explaining. "We are going to activate that thing over there."

Alfar looked to where Casper was pointing. It was a kind of weapon, very similar to a sniper, but very, very big, and with a look that clearly showed the reason why that thing was made.

The Dark elf couldn’t help but gulp at the sight of that destructive weapon.

He had heard about that thing. It was an ongoing project. A weapon made for war, specifically to destroy operation bases, entire military camps and, the main objective, evaporate cities in a matter of seconds.

That weapon didn’t have a name yet. Its destructive power came from condensed energy in a core, that was left by the barrel in form of a beam that could burn things into ashes in a matter of seconds.

Alfar wasn’t sure about their achievements in their projects nowadays, since he was disconnected from the Lab for a good while, but before it could reach two thousand degrees Celsius immediately.

Its intention was purely to cause chaos, and they had not much tactical strategy as to why use it. It wasn’t as efficient as a bomb, since the beam was straightforward, so one needed to get close to where they would fire it.

The plan was to transport those things in flying Drakkars to cause destructive airstrike, but the weight of that thing was the issue.

"That’s something I fear to deal with, to be honest... If it is as powerful as it was before, then we can get in serious trouble if we don’t do it properly"

Casper came close to that huge weapon, rubbing its structure with his hand.

"Don’t worry. I have a clear image in my mind as to how I will deal with it. Hopefully, we will be okay. It will depend on how its beam will interact here."

"Well, I can assure you that it will not explode, at least. Anyway, how will we activate this thing without Indigo energy?"

Just as Alfar said it, the lights of that search block turned on, and all the devices and weapons around as well, like magic.

"As I said before, I doubt that this Lab hasn’t an alternative way of Energy supply. The Main Lab was like this, and the Castle is like a huge Energy tower. It has an Indigo core in somewhere I don’t know, but that can serve as a provider for all the floors if something goes wrong."

"So, were you counting with it? That’s like a gamble, man..."

The soldier shrugged, sighing.

"I am not that lucky but... Well, there is no way we can live without gambling sometimes. That’s a must if you want something to go perfectly."

The Dark elf admired that part of Casper’s personality. Not everyone could be so confident like this to trust into lucky to make things right.

In truth, it was difficult to sort out if it was a quirk or a huge flaw (maybe, both, in Alfar’s opinion).

They were about to start to operate the weapon, but they heard that something was going on behind them since a loud noise came from the gate.

Casper glanced back and saw that the gate had a huge dent in the middle. He frowned at that sight, clicking his tongue.

"I knew they would try to break in, but to do it so fast? They got a battering ram or is it a device? I don’t know at all..."

Alfar hurried Casper, positioning beside the weapon.

"That’s not time to be thinking, Casper! We need to hurry, right?" The soldier nodded energetically for him, taking his position as well.

That huge weapon was on top of a support which allowed that it could be turned sideways or up and down some degrees. It was quite heavy so they struggled to handle that thing and put it in the right position.

"Yes, that’s it! Let the barrel pointing to the ground! No, tilt the barrel more. Ok, ok."

After they finished, the weapon was aiming to the ground, in diagonal. They couldn’t turn it down completely, which was a bother, but that way would be good enough.

"Ok, now, we need to wait a bit for Olaf to arrive..." Casper bit his lips, he didn’t say to Alfar, although he was pretty sure that the man also knew, that Olaf was quite late.

At that point, he should have arrived there already. It was quite concerning that he was taking that much time to get things done, and Casper was thinking if it wasn’t safe to assure that he had failed in his plan.

"Hey, Casper..." The Dark elf gave a step back, frightened by the second bump the Ridires out there gave in the gate, which caused it to dent even more.

Soon, the metal would start to crack and they would break it. The efficiency of the thing they were using was clear.

Casper was hoping that they would have more time there, but that was a miscalculation. He was not counting with that much practicality and speed.

Another bump in the gate, and with only three hits the metal was giving in already.

"C-Casper...?"

"Sorry, Alfar, but that’s not the moment to be hurrying me," Casper spoke, as level-headed as he could. If he panicked or got angry there, things wouldn’t be easier. Stay always calm and composed, at least on the outside, was one of his keys to victory.

"We are depending on Olaf now... We need to wait until the last second." Once he said "last second" the Dark elf gulped, never avoiding his gaze from the gate.

"Come, let’s go, we can’t wait for them to break it. We must buy some time until Olaf can do it. Go, go!" Casper ran towards the heaviest thing he found in the way and started to move it with difficulty towards the gate.

Alfar followed him, trying to help as well. Unfortunately, without the power that Deamhan have over him, he couldn’t move anything too heavy, since he was not strong, but he tried his best.

In a matter of minutes they had made a huge pile of different weapons, furniture, devices, and machinery from that Search block, and each second they found a way to bring more.

"Please, Olaf! Hurry!" Casper thought, finishing to throw a heavy device in the pile they were making.

The thing they were using outside hit hard the gate again, it finally broke, and some objects from the pile were sent flying through the place. But it still had some obstacles for the Ridires before they could pass for that gate, and more were coming each time.

Alfar was going to put something more, but another hit came and he lost his balance, falling on the ground.

"Huh?" He thought, raising his body. "Did I hit my head or my ear? I think not, but... What is this noise...?"

The Dark elf raised again, trying to organize his thoughts. After some while, he finally could realize what it was. He delayed a bit to do so because the noise was different from before, but he was pretty sure that he knew about that.

He turned to Casper, his dead eyes shining a bit.

"Casper... Olaf is coming!",

"That’s the noise?" The Dark elf nodded, running beside him. "Then, let’s do this. There is no time to wait for him. We will need to trust that he will catch up with us soon."

Both moved towards the destructive weapon. They could find a way to turn it on, which wasn’t too much difficult since it worked very similarly with some other devices that Casper and Alfar had interacted with before.

It started to make sounds of static, some engines could be heard working inside of it. A crescent sound began to stand out from the others... Alfar was operating some other buttons and analyzing the weapon to see if it was working just ok.

Since he was a chemical, not an engineer, he had doubts if his measures and care were being correct.

Finally, he pulled a huge lever beside the weapon’s body... And then it shot.
