Chapter 140: Another way to exit part 1

Casper was thinking deeply about what to do. His head was starting to get achy, and again he got restless inside.

For the others, the soldier seemed to be very composed, and it lessened the anxiety in their hearts. As long as Casper continued showing that everything was under control, they felt like they needed just to keep struggling and obeying his orders.

Nobody had decided that Casper was the leader. Since the start, he himself had rejected that position and said that he would act as an equal with the others. However, his personality, his actions, and the ability he had to always lead people to his goals no matter how serious was the situation, were points that made everyone around him try to follow him.

Olaf and Alfar themselves had not realized they were acting that way towards him, and just in that little break they got into that Search block they noticed that matter.

As Casper delayed even more to make a decision, those two began to worry a bit, but always stayed quiet, also thinking and trying to sort out a way to help the soldier to find an out for that.

Then, cutting the silence, Casper’s voice echoed in that quiet place.

"When alternative A, B, or C doesn’t work, choose the one that’s not listed..." That mutter was very soft and low, but both could hear it very well.

They got dumbfounded and glanced at each other, shrugging.

"What’s up, Casper? Did you think about something?" Alfar stood from the ground, looking curiously to the White warrior. Olaf followed him, paying attention.

"Yes... There is something we can do... Hehe, yeah, there is." The soldier smiled, hitting his palm with his fist, as a perfect idea appeared in his mind.

"Then, it’s better to say it already, man. Our time is short. And the Ridires will find out about our hiding place soon." The Dark elf hurried.

Casper looked outside that Search block, to the corridors that connected to that place.

"Ok, I think I remember where that other Search block is... After what I saw there, it’s almost impossible to not remember, after all."

Casper returned beside Alfar and Olaf, making them come closer, so he could mutter and decrease the noise.

"There is a Search block we need to go to make it happen, ok? So we will need to run more, but once we get there in some minutes we can get out of this prison." When they heard the last quote, those two got more excited, to the point when running a bit more through the complex didn’t seem too much of a bother.

"First, I need to confirm, how far are we from the floor below us?"

"In the castle, you mean? Well, not too far away. Even the superior levels from the Third Lab are very close to there as far as I know."

Casper looked to Alfar, raising a brow.

"How do you know about this?" When he asked about the distance of the floor, Casper was sure that the one who would answer was Olaf.

"I was a chemical in Halden’s laboratory, so I know a thing or two about the Third Lab. Also, this time I am not lying."

"A chemical, huh...?" Casper stroke his chin, reformulating the plan to use that point about Alfar as an advantage to increase their chances of winning.

"Then, you know more or less about the structure of the Third Lab, right? And the same goes for the Projects?"

The Dark elf nodded immediately, and the certainty in his gesture made Casper get more confident.

Casper, then, looked towards Olaf, who was extremely quiet until now. The White warrior could tell that he was sweating over what he could do to help the team, he was feeling useless.

"I never asked it before, Olaf, but what you were before being caught in Halden?"

"Hmm, me? Oh, well, my family was called Eoin... Its crest was a bird, you know..." He was a bit hesitant to talk about his family.

"Ah... I know who those Eoin are... That’s... That’s interesting to know..." A puzzle was being built inside Casper’s mind, piece by piece.

"Okay, then, you two will be of extreme importance. I will need you for something I have in mind."

Olaf was a bit restless, as if he was pondering whether he should say it or not, but ended up opening his mouth.

"W-what... What do you have in mind? I mean, it’s not better if you say to us about your plans?"

Casper got hit by those words.

"Oh, I am doing that again... Sorry..." He was a bit averted as for apologizing but ended up doing this just to release of conscience. "Well... Get here, I will explain everything. But, remember, be courageous. If you back away now, I will kill you two."

Then he started to explain his plan for them.

...

The operation had already started. Casper never was good to name operations, and he wanted a cool name, so Skyfall seemed a good name to it, and remembered a movie that he adored in his world.

First, Alfar and the soldier left the Search block they were in, running through the corridors towards the block they needed to go.

Olaf had other activities he was designated to do, so he needed to go to another part of the Third Lab.

It was pretty dangerous to let someone as debilitated as him do things alone, but if Casper wanted to raise their chances of getting out of there alive, then he needed to trust in his two comrades and hope that they would do their part.

On the way going to the Search block that they should go, obviously, they found more enemies.

He had clarified to Alfar and Olaf that they must do whatever they could to avoid these fights. The Ridires were already prepared to engage in close combat and were aware that the trio wasn’t ordinary people, particularly Casper.

They would use all the resources they had to stop them, even if cost their lives, and that was dangerous because Casper and his comrades weren’t willing to lose theirs in that situation.

It was very tricky for them to cross the corridors and get into the Search block. Casper and Alfar needed to do a lot of detours and got lost sometimes. Thankfully, the Dark elf also knew a bit about the structure of the complex, so they didn’t get in trouble because of that.

When they entered the Search block, Casper immediately smashed the button beside the gate to close it.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t too fast, and there were Ridires giving chase on them. They would probably make it in time to get inside there.

"Casper!" Alfar called, not knowing what to do, but the soldier was already moving outside the block at full speed.

That attack was sudden, but those Ridires weren’t idiots. They were prepared for it, and once Casper rushed towards them, they stopped to run and waited until he came.

"I need to hold them until that thing is about to close!" The White warrior swung the knife in his hand swiftly towards a Ridire several times, who dodged it retrieving some steps and waving his body to the sides.

The others tried to pass for Casper and pursue Alfar, but found themselves nearly ripped off before they could do it.

That man was quick enough to hold multiple enemies at the same time. But that was a suicidal strategy itself.

He could even manage to hold them until that gate closed, but if they all focused on him, his death was a certainty. Casper himself was aware of this.

The gate had descended more than half of the way until the ground, Alfar was crouched, paying attention to what was going on outside.

Casper was barely managing to avoid the flurry of blows the Ridires were aiming at him. He was trying to not be surrounded, nor let someone pass him.

The signal for him to retreat was when something rolled beside his feet. It was Alfar’s way to tell the soldier to do so.

Once he saw that thing, he closed his eyes while running backward. The warriors weren’t planning to let him escape so easily, so they gave chase, but a second after, a flash of pure white light blinded and stunned them.

The White warrior strengthened his steps, kicking hard the ground and flying through the corridor. Before the gate could close, he slid on the ground, entering successfully inside the search block and colliding with everything that was on his way.

Alfar walked stumbling beside him, looking at his face. Casper looked up, not willing to stand up at all.

"Don’t do this kind of thing, man. You are just crazy. What was all that speech about avoiding fights no matter what?"

Casper giggled.

"That advice was for weaklings like you two." Alfar didn’t have the same sense of humor as Casper and just kicked his leg slightly, sitting on the ground as well.
