Chapter 133: Attempt 14

Flain could survive for a maximum of 3 seconds. Even though he now had a good opportunity to attack, even if he attacked, he wouldn’t kill it in three seconds. So attacking was out of the question.

So once again, after a very long time, he was going to die. The last time he died was back in Dungeon 31 when he was attacked by an army of Black Lizards returning from a meeting with the Lightborn. Back then, he stood no chance against the army, and now he would kill them without much effort.

The worst thing about dying was that he would lose all his armor and, on top of that, the artifacts. But he thought of a way he might be able to avoid that loss. He would level up his inventory and put all his equipment in it. He didn’t know if items in the inventory stayed after death, but it was worth a try.

[Inventory lvl: 1 -> level 15]

Flain put all the EXP he had into it because it would all disappear after death anyway. He now had 20 slots in his inventory.

[-415 HP]

He quickly put all his equipment, including the Skinwalker’s Ring, into the inventory, turning back into a skeleton. Since all he had to do was touch the item and be able to lift it, Flain managed to store everything fast enough. If he had to insert them manually, like into some portal, he definitely wouldn’t have made it.

[You have died.]

The fish bit Flain’s body in half, and his limp pieces of bone began falling into the forest. Once the act was done, the fish shot up into the sky at high speed, flying off to an unknown destination.

Flain found himself in endless darkness. It had been a long time since he’d felt that strange and unpleasant sensation emanating from it.

With this, Flain’s 13th attempt—or rather, life—ended, and the 14th would follow.

Black hands began surrounding him instantly, pulling him into the darkness. Flain didn’t resist. He had no reason to.

"Yes! I did it!" came a joyful shout from Itai as Flain opened his eyes in the prepared grave.

Flain effortlessly climbed out of the grave and looked at Itai, wanting to see if the Eternal Master worked.

Itai stood there blankly for a moment, then blinked a few times and looked at Flain. "Did someone teleport us here or what? You were on a quest, right? Wait." Itai’s eyes widened as he looked around.

"Wait, this is the place where I resurrected you? So Flain, if I understood your words correctly, one of us had to die, right?" Itai asked.

"Yes, I was the one who died," Flain replied.

A nervous smile appeared on Itai’s face. "I still can’t believe I’m immortal," he stammered.

Flain patted him on the back. "You’ll get used to it," he said.

Now came the most important part—checking if the items in the inventory disappeared after death. And just as Flain had expected, they were really there: his beautiful armor, swords, artifacts, and Mana Crystals. He immediately emptied the pouch full of junk, mainly the unnecessary food his ivory servants had brought him, and put on his armor with the artifacts.

Flain immediately used the Skinwalker’s Ring to transform into his human form—with it, there’s more certainty.

"There’s that bastard!" a voice suddenly shouted behind them.

Flain’s face darkened, and a smile appeared on it. A chip was flying straight at his head, but Flain easily caught it with his hand.

"You really thought this would do something to me?" he asked with a smile.

Flain didn’t need to run anywhere because he had about a year before the academy started, so he was in no hurry. He planned to wipe out Dungeon 31 and that village, to get acquainted with Flor. He had done all this in attempt 13 within a single year, although he had of course spent a lot of time training, which he planned to do again now — except this time, for one month and two weeks, he would be gaining double thanks to his 41 Mana Crystals. But in the end, he still had plenty of time. Anyway, right now he felt like talking to someone.

When the bandits saw that Flain had caught the arrow so effortlessly, they froze and immediately started running — which Flain, of course, did not allow.

He dashed forward and easily overtook them. "Don’t even think about running, or this won’t end well for you," he said.

The bandits stopped immediately, and a large man with a mace stepped in front of Flain. "Sir, what would you like?" he asked.

Flain was surprised at how quickly he had tamed the bandits — he just caught an arrow and they instantly ran. But he figured they didn’t want to attack the wrong person; otherwise, it could have ended very badly for them.

"Why did you target Itai?" Flain asked, pointing at Itai.

"Well, sorry sir, but I’ll be honest with you. We’re bandits, and when we saw a young man who was afraid of us, he seemed like an easy mark to rob," the man said with his head bowed.

"Hmph, I see. Another question. Where did you get that magic map?" Flain asked.

When the bandit heard that, his eyes widened. "I got it from the head bandit who told me to give it to our chief, Irakami. I was just on my way to the main camp where the commander lives," the bandit said.

"So why were you chasing Itai when you had something that valuable on you? Didn’t it occur to you that it might be a trap or something?" Flain asked.

"Well, it was an easy catch. There was no reason not to take advantage of it," the bandit said.

Flain saw that having an intelligent conversation with people like this wasn’t possible.

Flain was silent for a moment, thinking, and then the bandit in front of him suddenly dropped to his knees and began to cry. "Please don’t kill me, I have a family — that’s the only reason I do this job. With the number of children I have, I can’t support them with honest work," he said.

Gradually, all the bandits began falling to their knees and begging for their lives. Each had a different reason for becoming a bandit — one had massive debts, another needed money for his mother’s treatment, and so on.

But Flain didn’t plan to kill them just yet — they were still useful to him.

"You said you got it from the head bandit. So the owner of the magic map can sell it to someone else. Tell me how," Flain ordered...
