Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 132: Stress
Chapter 132: Stress
Flain was running along the path by the forest exactly according to the map. There shouldn’t be an area with very strong monsters nearby, but even if one appeared in his way, Flain would just fly over it using Ghosty.
Ghosty was flying right next to Flain. He always maintained the same speed as Flain so he could constantly stay with him. If he didn’t have this ability, he would have to constantly teleport a short distance forward to stay within the 1-kilometer limit from Flain.
Ghosty was content because he could finally see the world outside the academy.
"Hey Flain? Could we stay a bit longer?" he asked along the way.
"Sorry, but no. I have limited time at the academy, so I have to use it for the most amazing things. But don’t worry, after the academy, there will be more than enough trips like this," Flain said with a smile.
Ghosty looked stiff. "Alright. But keep in mind that I don’t like it."
The first 3 hours passed and Flain kept running in the same direction, but on the map a few meters ahead he saw something that caught his attention.
The road continued forward and suddenly made a sharp bend ahead. That’s because in front of them was a dense forest where strong monsters roam, so going through it wouldn’t be a good idea. The curve was really wide, and after passing it, the road returned to the same direction Flain was now heading.
So Flain came up with a plan to cut the journey almost in half. All he had to do was fly over the forest — instead of 10 hours, it would only take 5. What could go wrong?
Flain came to a sudden stop in front of the forest, creating a powerful gust of wind around him.
"Ghosty, get ready, we’re going to fly," Flain said.
"Ugh, it’s been a long time since I turned into wings and I don’t even want to remember that feeling. You won’t convince me," Ghosty said, crossing his arms.
"If you did it, you’d make me happy. Because if we fly over the forest, I can start hunting lightning tigers sooner," Flain said.
"And you think I care about your happiness?" Ghosty asked.
Flain’s smile didn’t fade. "Just this once, you could go the extra mile," he said.
"Fine, just stop bothering me," Ghosty grumbled.
Once Flain had Ghosty in the form of wings, he flew high into the air so that no monster below would notice him.
The air up there was surprisingly cold — any normal mortal would catch a cold after just a few breaths in such chill. But of course, that didn’t affect Flain at all.
Flain continued flying, everything was going according to plan. Below, he could already see a few powerful-looking monsters, but his sense for ME didn’t reach that far, so Flain couldn’t check what Stage they were.
Flain even saw something so big he had never seen anything like it. As he continued on, in the corner of his left eye, he noticed something large and white.
Flain saw a massive, approximately 30-meter-long white caterpillar that was upright and staring in the opposite direction from him. What Stage could it possibly be? If Flain were to encounter something like that, and it wasn’t friendly, it would probably be the end of him, but he is actually immortal heh.
Flain was already about halfway through the forest. Even though he was flying very slowly, this stretch of forest wasn’t that long, so it was going by rather quickly.
Suddenly, Flain saw something above him. It was a black thing rapidly approaching.
When Flain saw it, his eyes widened and the world around him froze. It was a large black fish flying directly at him, and it didn’t look like it just wanted to say hello. The worst part was that Flain could feel its magic energy—it was Advanced Stage 3.
If he were fighting it on the ground, he would most likely defeat it. That’s because Flain assumed that even though he was only Early Stage 3, the limit of what he could defeat was Pioneer, and in order to win, he would have to fight as well as he possibly could.
But in the current situation, he definitely wouldn’t be able to beat this fish, and the reason was clear—he could only move using wings. Wings that were just as fast as a Mortal running. So compared to the speed priority of Stage 3, he didn’t stand a chance. If Flain engaged the fish now, he wouldn’t even hit it once and would die very quickly.
Up until now, Flain hadn’t encountered any monsters in the sky, so he had thought he was safe—but apparently not. And if that’s the case, then why is the monster a flying fish of all things? Shouldn’t it be swimming in a pond instead of flying in the air and hunting down a poor skeleton?
This was a tricky situation. Flain didn’t want to die and start all over again. If he could get on the fish’s back, he might be able to injure it pretty well, but he wouldn’t be able to stay there very long—and on top of that, there was no way for him to get up there.
The only option that came to Flain’s mind, and likely had the best chance of survival, was to deactivate Transparent Wings and fall down into the forest. However, there was also a big chance that it wouldn’t work.
The fish might catch him in its mouth during the fall or, if it could use magic, cast a spell on him. Also, when he hit the ground, his magic energy would spread through the surroundings and some strong monsters in the forest might see him as easy prey.
Flain had absolutely no time to think and definitely wouldn’t come up with anything better. So he took action.
He deactivated Transparent Wings and began falling into the forest. To speed up the fall, he kicked off the air, which significantly boosted his velocity.
The fish noticed and flew after him like an arrow.
Flain was almost past the first phase of survival—he was just a few meters from the ground. But then one of Flain’s predicted bad outcomes happened—the fish quickly caught up to him.
It caught him in its mouth and with a sharp arc just above the ground, it shot back into the sky. Flain was basically dead now.
When the fish was in the air, it began crushing Flain’s entire body in its mouth.
[-410 HP]
The damage it was dealing every second was enormous, mainly because it was severely damaging his entire body.
Flain knew what he had to do...
