Chapter 128: Flain vs Cru

If a student killed another student in an official match, they would automatically anger the noble family of the victim, and others would look at them as a madman who weakens the Empire of Light by removing one of its future elite soldiers without any major reason.

If Flain and Cru were to meet now, Flain guessed it would end in a draw.

There was once a fight between Cru and Rey where they destroyed a lot of terrain. Both of them received a fine of 50 Mana Crystals, which neither of them liked. Flain doubted that Cru would want to lose another 50, and Flain even less so. Flain guessed that Cru believed he could easily crush and scare Flain without using too much power.

Fast running could be heard, and students began looking behind and stepping aside. At the end of Flain’s back, a long bony tail with a spike grew, and two swords appeared in his hands. Flor stepped back into the crowd and persuaded Itai to do the same.

Flain also ordered his slaves to withdraw because this was his fight. He also didn’t know exactly how strong Cru was, but he didn’t think any of his slaves could defeat him just yet. Soon after, Cru arrived with his group. His legs had transformed into werewolf legs, making him much faster.

"Hey, are you Eran Girflodor?" he asked, pointing at Flain.

"Yes," Flain said with a smirk.

Cru’s group stepped back, and Cru began to transform. His body started growing and forming new muscles, long white fur began to grow over him, and a tail formed at the back. His head elongated, and ears grew from it. The pupils in his completely red eyes narrowed into slits that pointed directly at Flain.

"You trespassed on my territory. You’ll pay for that!" Cru roared.

Flain and Cru stood facing each other, neither of them showing a trace of fear. The students stepped further back to avoid being caught in the fight and to get a good view of the battle.

Many of them had already seen Cru fight and knew what he could do, so no one expected it to end in a draw or for Flain to win—except for Flor and Itai.

Flain smirked. "Looks like the puppy with his tail tucked is interested in my piece of bone," he said.

All the students stared at the tall man with the bony tail in front of them. His confidence and fearlessness stirred the air. They didn’t want to imagine what he’d look like when the match was over.

Cru’s eyes trembled with rage. He lunged at Flain.

Flain dodged him easily and jumped onto his back. The back began to heat up, and the air around it distorted. Flain immediately jumped to the other side, and moments later, a great wave of fire burst out of him.

Cru turned and charged at Flain, their claws and Flain’s sword clashing.

Flain’s status among the students instantly rose by several levels, because few could keep up with Cru. He might have been arrogant, but he was also quite strong.

The fight continued and both of them fought as strongly as they could without destroying too much of the surroundings.

Cru extended his fist and sent Flain flying through the air. Flain didn’t hesitate, twisted, flew back to Cru, wrapped his tail around Cru’s head, and stabbed the spike into his neck.

Cru grabbed the tail, tore it off his neck, and threw Flain to the ground. Flain quickly got up, but Cru grabbed one of his swords. Flain saw a perfect opportunity to drive the second one deep into his stomach, but Cru’s voice stopped him.

"Fuck, you’re way too strong. I don’t want to lose 50 Mana Crystals so let’s end this here," he mumbled.

"I agree," said Flain with a smirk.

"You can keep those rooms you occupied, anyway they’re inhabited by weaklings who don’t have many Mana Crystals, while I won’t challenge you in an official duel. Either way, you won’t touch my territory again. Deal?" Cru asked, and he looked like he was battling himself internally not to lunge at Flain again.

"Alright," said Flain with a smirk.

The duel ended in a way most students hadn’t hoped for — a draw. This random guy who had seemed completely average until now had managed to keep up with one of the Academy’s top students.

Flain called over Flor and Itai, and they continued into the Academy.

"When I crush Rey, you’re next," he murmured, and a long smile formed on his face for a brief moment.

Cru transformed back into his human form and walked over to Akiro.

"This is supposed to be that student of yours who’s average in every way?" he asked.

"Looks like until now he was hiding his strength for some reason. From what I’ve seen so far, I’d say he’s at least Novice Stage 3. A good clue was that Professor Nyvar Kalledes during the introductory Steel Strength lecture described his strength as good. I understood that as good for his Stage, not good compared to others since during Steel Strength classes he never stood out and only sparred with an average female student. But otherwise his concealment was flawless on the surface, so it was hard to guess with only a single hint," Akiro explained plainly.

"Continue monitoring him," Cru growled.

The day continued normally. Flain attended lectures and no longer hid his abilities — at least not all of them, like Transparent Wings or the system.

The next subject was Steel Strength, which would start in a few minutes, but Flain had to take care of something first.

He looked for a tall student with blue hair. It was Nefu Randamu. The student who owned Room 28.

"I challenge you to an official duel for Room 28," said Flain.

Nefu stared at him. "Wait, I saw you this morning — you’re the one who kept up with Cru. Sorry, but it’s not worth the risk for me. I don’t want to lose Room 28," Nefu declined.

"If you don’t sign it, I’ll kill you," said Flain.

Nefu looked at him, startled. "Bold of you to say, since they’d expel you from the Academy for that," he said...
