Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 129: Academy Shop
Chapter 129: Academy Shop
Flain’s smile didn’t fade as he licked his lips. "Wanna find out for yourself?"
Nafu started to think Flain might be some kind of lunatic. "Hey, just so you know, if you kill me, my family won’t forgive you, you’ll be expelled from the academy, and the Empire of Light will see you as a threat," he said.
"That’s great, makes it even more fun," Flain replied, his eyes widening.
’I’ve got a long life ahead of me and I don’t need some psycho ending it. Going from Room 28 to 29 isn’t that big of a deal,’ Nafu thought to himself.
"How do I know you won’t kill me in the official match?" he asked.
"My goal is to get your room. Once I have it, my level of excitement will be fulfilled enough," Flain answered.
"And what are you putting on the line?" Nafu asked.
"I think 45 Mana Crystals is fair," said Flain.
"Forty-five? Alright then," Nafu agreed.
And so, Flain arranged his first official duel. In Steel Strength class from Professor Nyvar, he received a technique that would suit his combat style best. Flain immediately learned it automatically for 50,000 EXP.
[Name: Blood Vortex
Level: 1
Stage: 3
Type: Melee Technique
Consumption: 700 EN
Description: Upon activation, the user rapidly spins the weapons in their hands, creating a whirlwind of slashing attacks that strike the opponent from all sides. After 5 seconds, the technique ends with a burst of explosive power from the vortex, capable of breaking through defenses and knocking the enemy backward. During the technique, the user is vulnerable to attacks from behind and it costs a significant amount of stamina.
Next level: Fight, train with this skill or 200,000 EXP]
This sounded pretty good. If Flain understood it correctly, his arms with the weapons basically turned into two chainsaws that exploded after the technique ended. The only downside was that Flain became more vulnerable from the back — though that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. As for the stamina cost, that didn’t apply to him since his stamina was infinite.
It might not sound like a technique suited for an aggressive fighting style, but the opposite was true. Flain would slash even faster than usual and could also rotate his arms, allowing him to attack behind himself too. The EN cost was pretty high, but that wouldn’t be an issue in the future.
The rest of Flain’s day went by normally; he found out his official match would take place tomorrow. This surprised him — he thought it would happen later — but apparently not. Of course, the fact that it was so soon was a good thing. If every official duel got processed this quickly, Flain would climb the room rankings fast.
What really surprised him was that Rey and Cru’s match had been arranged some time ago and was scheduled in two days, while Flain’s match was arranged today and would happen tomorrow.
Flain decided to check out the academy’s store since he had only been there once, and even then, hadn’t really explored it properly.
After Rune Magic, Flain headed to the shop. He found out it closed only at 23:00, so he still had time. The shop was near the center, so it wasn’t far for Flain.
Flain also discovered that this was the only shop in the academy, so students from higher years teleported here using a teleportation rune circle, but they were forbidden from leaving it into the first-year area.
Flain stepped into the shop; it was a long room with shelves on which were stands displaying various books with skills. The shop was divided into two sections—one with techniques and the other with spells, with the technique section being significantly larger.
At the end was a counter behind which sat a massive, bulky man, he had to be at least 2.5 meters tall. He had a long brown beard and long hair that reached the ground.
Flain walked and looked around. There were skills from Stage 2 to 4 because almost all students had one of these stages, so other books weren’t necessary.
Flain had a wide smile on his face—this shop was a gold mine. Since he could automatically learn a skill just by touching the book, everything here was basically free, if he didn’t count the EXP for automatic learning.
So Flain picked up a random Stage 3 technique and expected a system window to pop up asking whether he wanted to automatically learn it, but even after a moment, nothing popped up.
He picked up another—again, nothing. Another, and another, but none of them worked. Flain’s smile disappeared instantly.
"Hey system, you have a broken function," Flain mumbled.
[Tip: No function is broken. I adjusted the auto-learning function so that you can’t learn a spell that is for sale.]
Flain was quite pissed off and frustrated by this answer. He had planned to spend most of his EXP here and make himself a nice collection of skills that would surely be useful now and even more in the future, but apparently the system wasn’t on his side.
Flain examined all the Stage 3 spells and techniques to determine the average price. The average price for a Stage 3 technique was 52 Mana Crystals, and for a spell, 105.
That was quite expensive; Flain couldn’t even afford an average Stage 3 technique. He could buy some cheap technique, but he doubted it would be any good.
During lectures, he gets skills for free—so far he hadn’t used a single one of them, but they didn’t sound bad. However, Flain doubted he’d get another one anytime soon, because both professors said they would only get another once everyone had learned to use the current one excellently.
Flain decided he might try a quest because he heard the rewards for completing them were quite large.
"Need help with something?" a rough voice came from behind Flain.
Flain turned to the man. "No, no, I just came to look around," he said.
Flain then left and headed toward the center to the quest board...
