Daoist Competition-Chapter 1002 - 241: Disciples in the Residence
Zhang Yan lingered in the Beichen Sect for more than ten days, refining the Star Sword Ball once more. Thereafter, he paid a formal visit to Sect Leader Jiang Lin and several elders of the sect, and then mentioned that he was taking his leave.
In the Beichen Sect, only Elder Yan was a Nascent Soul cultivator. Zhang Yan’s cultivation was comparable to his, and he originally wished to invite Zhang Yan to stay a few more days to exchange insights and experiences in cultivation. However, seeing that Zhang Yan was set on leaving, though feeling regretful, he didn’t press further.
That day, Zhang Yan bid farewell to everyone and set off to return to the Mountain Gate.
He also knew that the current East Splendor Continent was not as before, with all sects having heightened their vigilance for fear of misunderstandings. Therefore, he did not release the Dragon Carp but instead activated the Sword Ball. Like a rainbow, he tunneled swiftly towards the Zhao You Heavenly Pond.
Now, his tunneling light was incredibly fast. Within just one hour, he could vaguely see the towering silhouette of Zhao You Mountain, shrouded in ethereal cloud mist. After advancing for a quarter-hour, he saw three streaks of tunneling light flitting around the mountain, with faint laughter and joyous voices echoing.
Zhang Yan swept his gaze over and saw a young girl at the front, about twelve or thirteen years old, with double spiral braids, dressed in a short jacket and long skirt. She looked innocent and lively, with delicate, water-like features.
She stood on a slender cloud flying shuttle, though she did not control it skillfully in the air, staggering every few meters forward.
To her right was a young boy who had not yet come of age, with clear black-and-white eyes and a lively aura about him, standing on a cloud that resembled white cotton. The two were competing, racing against each other.
Not far away stood a robust young cultivator with a prominent forehead, an impressive demeanor, surrounded by a brownish Xuan Guang, watching the two with a smiling face.
Zhang Yan initially didn’t pay much attention. Since Zhao You Heavenly Pond became his Cave Mansion, many low-level disciples frequently visited. However, upon seeing this person, he seemed familiar, as if he’d seen him somewhere before. After a moment, he remembered, thinking, "This must be the disciple Luo Daoist snatched from the Quantu Tribe in the past."
He had once heard Luo Xiao mention that this person’s father was human while his mother was a demon, a favored concubine of the Demon King Quan He, hence he took his mother’s surname and was named Zhao Chong.
Zhang Yan looked at the young boy and girl below, speculating, "Could these two also be new disciples of Luo Daoist?"
He contemplated for a moment, then restrained the overwhelming Gang Qi within himself, and landed lightly.
While the boy and girl raced, they were initially neck and neck. But soon, the boy fell half a body behind. Seeing the girl about to overtake him, his eyes rolled, and he suddenly let out a loud cry, standing one foot on the cloud, the other stepping out into the air, flailing his hands as if about to fall.
Seeing this, the girl exclaimed in surprise, instinctively reaching out to help. Little did she know the boy would chuckle, urging his light cloud to surge ahead by three or four meters. He plucked a green grass before a stone, waved it after holding it up, and said, "Junior sister, this time you lost, so the Phoenix Tail Immortal Pheasant that Lady Jing gave you is mine."
The girl’s cheeks flushed red with anger as she stomped her foot, yelling, "Senior brother, you’re cheating! It doesn’t count this time!"
The boy said lazily, "Junior sister, you can’t blame senior brother for this. Every time you fall for it, and if it were outside, you’d fear being tricked by those Demon Sect disciples without realizing it."
The girl retorted defiantly, "That’s only because of you, senior brother. Outside the Mountain Gate, there’s no way Xue’er would fall for that. Anyway, it doesn’t count this time."
The boy shrugged helplessly and turned to the young cultivator in the distance, "Junior Master Zhao, you should judge for us."
Zhao Chong merely shook his head and said nothing.
Just then, a piercing sword light suddenly approached from the sky. Zhao Chong’s expression changed immediately. He blocked the two behind him with his arm and shouted loudly, "Which Daoist from the sect has arrived?"
Although Demon Sect disciples had ravaged East Splendor, the Independent Sect’s small sects were protected by the Mingcang Sect, safeguarding the four corners of the Mountain Gates, with even Nascent Soul Elders patrolling, so it’s rare for Demon Sect disciples to penetrate deep into the Mountain Gate’s territory. Any that did slip through were swiftly slain by those with high cultivation or used for practice by the disciples if their cultivation was low.
Near Zhao You Heavenly Pond was a critical area of the Mingcang Sect’s Mountain Gate, and for the past two or three decades, there had been few external threats. Most who came here were sect cultivators.
However, Zhao Chong dared not be careless and sent a Spirit Light to the Zhao You Heavenly Pond as he spoke.
