Crusader King-Chapter 138: Two-faced lie(2)
Chapter 138 - Two-faced lie(2)
Cades pushed and pushed, but the plank didn't budge, and as the plank didn't budge his anger rose higher and higher, after all, the sun, a sun, a warm source of light, something he had been missing for so long, was right in front of him, he was even able to see it through the tightly closed holes within the plank that was now starting to make noises as it was starting to crack, producing the unholy noises that happened just before was about to budge under extreme strength, just like Cades was now able to do, at the transcribe-rank, a rank he himself had named such.
And finally, the unreasonably strong wooden plank, or at least the plank that looked as if it was made out of wood, be it that such a sturdiness could not be expected from normal wood, burst, sending out splinters away from him and partially snapping on his two, functional, arms that began bleeding for a short while before starting to heal, empowered by the mana, clean and pure, that flowed through this place, a mana that as Cades realized was enhancing some of his abilities, with the main subject of the perceived enhancement being healing, perhaps because the mana in this world had been.. clean.. and nurturing, resulting in the gigantic spiders for one, while the mana in that accursed realm had been.. stale and.. forsaken..
Nevertheless, Cades only noted that as an afterthought, instead he was overtaken by the sun, something that he had not truly seen in far too long, only really ever seeing it within his mind or as an illusion, once also as an hallucination because of which he had almost walked off of the endless chain he had his greatest breakdown on, and at the same time the chain in which he had ascended to the middle of his rank, something that he'd rather expected to happen after he fought some grand battle, but instead had happened after he had experienced with one of the stones that contained the actives, the most powerful one he wielded as far as he could tell, the warp-step.
He had to close his eyes because the sun shone right through the leaves that almost seemed to make way for the endless stream that now shone right onto Cades that was still standing within his cavern, having been a bit too shocked and stunned by the beauty of that which he had previously never appreciated to continue on with what he was doing before, to continue on with exiting the hole he had buried himself in all that time, like the tat he had been.
With his eyes still closed he began to feel the radiance of the sun with his entire body, though it was now covered in clothes he had never seen before, a black linen top with long sleeves and long, greenish linen pants, though he didn't have a mirror nearby to check how he looked, and neither was there water near that would be even remotely clear enough, but he was almost certain that he was wearing medieval clothes belonging to someone who fought with the sword or something else, as these were easy to move in, and gave him a lot of motion range, on the other hand they could've also belonged to a farmer if one just considered these two criteria, but Cades preferred the first thought, if only because his clothes were clean, smelling like nothing, as if they were just an illusion, which, perhaps, they were.
Either way, he was thankful right now.
Perhaps Cades was being eaten alive right now, perhaps he had been spun into a cocoon by one of those spiders he had just killed, something that, if true, would mean that they hunted in swarms and also explain some things, such as why they would choose eximimus spiders, a species known for their swarms and not something else, but he was thankful, he was thankful for experiencing peace once more. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Finally standing outside Cades just closed his eyes, pulling his eyelids that had been far too warry of his surroundings for far too long shut and just listening, he listened to the slight rustle of the leaves caused by the natural wind, he listened at a sound that resembled a small animal hopping somewhere, perhaps trying to get away from him, a being much more powerful than anything here, aside from, maybe, that monster who looked like an entire fort, an illusion he wasn't even sure of if the current him would be capable of casting even if he knew the way to do so.
Feeling the warm sun he began to smile, not in a sly way, not as a false promise, not with a maddening glint, his eyes not glowing with mad intent, but simply staying as their original colour before it had all happened, a blackish yellow that had been common amongst ehetrians before they seemingly fell, dying out and ending most of their race.
Right now, however, none of that mattered.
All that mattered was the rustling sound of the leaves swaying in the winds of the forest that had been so, so dark in his memories, the sound of the birds from far, far away that tried attracting mates and feeding children from what Cades thought about the squealing sounds, not caring to think much more, all that mattered was the rhythmic sound coming from behind him, pushing aside twigs and leaves as it slowly but steadily moved towards him.
His eyes were ripped wide open, shortly blinding him as he had been staring intently at the sun, be it with previously closed eyelids, and he turned around, feeling his heart starting to race as he came up with possibilities, some of them being the enforcer of this illusion, others just a spider, but he knew that couldn't be right, but in the end it seemed like none of his theories had been even remotely true.
"Greetings, other me."
In front of him, still moving, was Cades Kirgun.
