Chapter 68: Fresh Air

Aiden was silent at Amy’s words. In his mind, whatever the Princess’s lady in waiting was saying did not make any sense.

"Like the Princess?" Aiden raised his eyebrows as he stood still. He wanted to defend himself subconsciously but he could not come up with anything against the words.

’I like her?’

’Impossible.’

’How can I possibly like the Princess?’

’No, she is just working for me.’

’This girl does not know what she is saying.’

Aiden’s sight was fixed on Amy. He wanted to know what she was thinking to come up with such a bizarre thought.

Amy was happy. Her eyes widened as she nodded her head in agreement. She thought that Duke Salvador was angry.

’Yes, Duke Salvador must be disappointed in Ed.’

Amy was confident in her judgment. "Duke Salvador must not know but it is quite evident in his eyes."

"How so?" Aiden folded her hands as he asked.

"Well .." Amy fiddled with her fingers. She didn’t want to tell Ed but she didn’t want him taking advantage of the Princess as well.

Amy swallowed as she said in a soft tone. "His eyes always stay on Princess Cassandra. It is as if his gaze follows her every action."

Aiden who was silent was engrossed in his own world.

’Do I really do that?’

’Does my gaze really follow the Princess?’

Aiden’s first reaction was denial but soon he realized that whatever that Princess Cassandra’s lady in waiting was saying was true.

’My eyes are always focused on her.’

’But I do it to make sure she is doing her work properly.’

’My gaze follows the fifth Princess, but that is because it is prone to accidents.’

’Yes, I am doing this as a job as a guard.’

’I do not like the Princess, for sure.’

Aiden made his heart strong as he looked at Amy who was still saying things. "And Ed should understand that if the rumors spread then Princess Cassandra’s reputation will be on the line."

"Her reputation? Why?" Aiden was confused. Was she saying something that he missed? That was probably the case.

"Princess Cassandra will soon be married to Lord Bentham. If rumors are to be believed then the marriage ceremony will take place after the Viverer Kingdoms people leave the Empire so if in such a citation people in the palace get to kn ..." Amy said in a panic "Duke."

Aiden had started walking off when Amy’s voice stopped his step. He turned around and looked at Princess Cassandra’s lady in waiting as his gaze darkened. Aiden’s red eyes were ready to burn anything that would come in between. The beast was unleashed.

Aiden smirked as he said in a low tone. "My guards know what they are doing." His eyes narrowed. "And you should stop spreading rumors as well. There is no official announcement as to when Princess Cassandra and Lord Bentham will get married."

With such words, Aiden left the place in a hurry. His red eyes were stained with rage as his hands had long formed a fist.

As soon as Aiden was out he called for Blazh.

"Master." Blazh waited for his master’s order. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"Some baseless rumors are going around the palace," Aiden said in a ridiculousness-filled tone. He looked at Blazh as he ordered. "I want it to be eradicated as soon as possible."

Blazh nodded but his gaze was full of questions. What was the rumor? What does he have to do? How will it affect the Duke? What type of measurement should be taken?

Blazh’s mind was filled with many questions but looking at the Duke, it was hard for him to object at this moment.

’My life is full of difficulty.’

’Why can’t I just be a healer of the army?’

Blazh sighed as he shook his head in dejection.

Aiden’s thoughts were not stable. All he knew was that if the rumors in the palace were to be left alone then it might be taken as a fact.

’What if such a rumor gets into the Emperor’s ears?’

’What if the Emperor decided to turn the rumor into a reality?’

’What if the Empress decides to rake up this fabricated story to distract people’s opinion so that Princess Valeria’s deeds are forgotten?’

’The Empress can emphasize that the wedding should be conducted while the people of Vivere Kingdom are here to achieve her motives.’

Aiden’s body was fuming. His aura had long turned murderous, making Blazh who was standing at a distance shiver.

"Duke .." At Blazh’s words, Aiden came back to his senses. He took some deep breaths as he ran his hand over his hair.

"Blazh." Aiden raised his tone a little.

"Master."

"Spread the rumor more powerful than the one existing." Aiden’s lips turned up as a burst of small laughter left his lips. "Tell them that Duke Salvador thinks that Lord Bentham should not marry the fifth Princess. Another Princess with some elemental power is more suitable than Princess Cassandra."

"That .." Blazh raised his eyebrows but he swallowed hard again. "That might affect Princess Cassan .."

"That doesn’t matter." Aiden cut Blazh’s tone. "I want people to start talking that some other Princess should take Princess Cassandra’s place."

Blazh was silent. He felt that it was unnecessary this time. If such things really happen then maybe Princess Cassandra would be the one suffering.

"Yes, Master." Blazh swallowed his concerns as he said.

"Now it’s time to meet with the Princess." Aiden smiled as he walked towards the window that led to Princess Cassandra’s room.

As he peeked inside, he saw her working hard to copy the book’s contents. Her long digits were turning red due to the writing.

Cassandra rubbed her eyes from time to time as she stretched her neck in frustration.

Princess Cassandra’s body was aching due to the amount of work she had taken upon herself. Although she was a Princess who was unfavored and ignored, she still lived a comfortable life.

But now Princess Cassandra had to work hard. It was as if she was working like a dog for her master.

Aiden looked at the fifth Princess who was working for him. Aiden’s gaze softened as his hand stretched to touch her. Even though Princess Cassandra’s back was exposed to him, Aiden could imagine the facial expression the Princess might have.

’Ed like the Princess.’

’His eyes follow her.’

Aiden’s ears were filled with Amy’s voice as he clenched his hand, retracting it back. ’What am I doing? I should not be doing this.’ Aiden’s mind told him but soon Cassandra’s smiling face flashed through his mind and Aiden could not help himself.

He invited himself into the room as walked behind the fifth Princess. He looked down only to see Cassandra’s hair flowing with the slight wind. Her hands were on the pen that tightened when she wrote something on the page. Her little nose was breathing steadily.

Aiden’s gaze darkened as his heartbeats increased. His throat ran dry as he said. "Princess?"

------

Princess Valeria was sitting in the outer Place. Although the Palace was situated at the far end, it was still luxurious. The only problem that Valeria felt was that there was only a maid and her hands were still locked together.

Princess Valeria was silent at first when she first arrived at the palace but soon her mind started to work. She was determined to find the person who had made her like this. Someone was giving her a hard time on purpose but who?

Although Princess Valeria did not know the answer to that it was still a mystery. But now something was more important than that.

Princess Valeria looked around as she saw no one. It was a weird feeling. She was the loved one in the Palace and now suddenly she was left all alone.

Princess Valeria walked towards the open window. The air around the Palace was fresh. A smile formed on Valeria’s face.

Princess Valeria closed her eyes as she concentrated her powers on her hand. The fire engulfed the handcuff as it started melting. The smile on her face spread. But the happiness in Princess Valeria’s face did not last long. The cuff that was ready to turn brisk and fall apart had suddenly solidified and clenched on her wrist more tightly.

’What is happening?’ Princess Valeria’s eyes widened as she looked down. The fire was dismissed suddenly as Valeria looked at her hands.

Princess Valeria’s wrist had turned red as there were burn marks on her skin. Valeria did not understand what was happening. What was her fire affecting her?

Princess Valeria tried again as the fire engulfed the cuff again but the same thing occurred.

"AHH .." Princess Valeria shouted as her eyes were filled with water.

Princess Valeria took her wrist near her mouth as she blew on the burns.

"Something is wrong." Princess Valeria’s eyes looked far. The cuff had tightened around her wrist and Valeria could not do anything about it.

"I am stuck with this." Princess Valeria murmured in silence.
