Chapter 69: Moon

Cassandra was frightened as she looked back.

’Why does he always come like a ghost?’ Cassandra thought. ’Just like Ed.’

Cassandra stood up in a hurry. Her eyes widened in shock as she took a step back. Cassandra’s back hit the table, making her hand rest on it to stabilize herself.

Aiden was shocked as he extended his hand towards the fifth Princess. His one arm circled around the Princess’s waist as he pulled her closer to him, but the impact was much greater than Aiden had anticipated. Due to the pull, Aiden was pulled down along with the Princess.

Cassandra’s heart was on her sleeves. Her eyes widened as her breath hitched. Cassandra looked up as she could see the well structured face of the Duke. His red eyes looked down at her with worry.

Aiden looked at Cassandra. Her soft and gentle skin glowed in his eyes. Her pulpy lips trembled as her blue eyes looked at him nervously.

There was a little distance between the two and Aiden wanted to move a little further. Something that he unknowingly carved for was inches away from him.

’Yes, it is as if they are calling me.’ Aiden thought as his sigh glued on Cassandra’s face.

’Just an inch away.’

’Only if I can move a little.’

Aiden’s eyes were sparkling. An unquiet excitement clouded his sight.

"Duke," Cassandra said as she came back to her senses. She struggled as she pushed the Duke away.

Duke Salvador came back to reality. He shook his head to clear his mind as he took a step back.

"Is the Princess okay?" Duke Salvador asked worriedly. Even though they have separated, Aiden’s gaze refused to leave the Princess alone.

Aiden examined Cassandra’s body from a distance. He was worried that there might be some scratch that would sting and make Princess Cassandra uncomfortable.

’I do not want her to be in pain.’

Aiden’s look gave his thoughts away but Princess Cassandra did not get the clue.

Cassandra was busy keeping her mind and heart in check. She nodded at Duke Salvador’s words. "Yes." Cassandra was taking deep breaths as she waited for her heart to control itself.

Aiden nodded as he closed his eyes. ’I have to keep my mind clear. I only care about the fifth Princess because she is helping me. I have to learn the old techniques soon. I want to help the people of the Empire.’ After setting his mind, Aiden opened his eyes as he looked at Princess Cassandra.

’Be strong.’ With this, Aiden walked towards the table on which the Princess was writing a few minutes ago.

Aiden sat down as he looked at the pages. As usual, he could not see anything but still, a smile played on his face. Aiden rearranged the pages as he kept them aside. He folded his arms as he looked at the fifth Princess who was still standing there in shock.

"I hear the Princess wanted to meet me?" Aiden asked as he raised his eyebrows.

’I wanted to meet you?’

’When?’

Cassandra’s face showed her true face making Duke Salvador chuckle. He relaxed his shoulders as he expanded his question. "The guard assigned to you said that you wanted the confirmation about .."

"Yes," Cassandra remembered her talk with Ed. ’I told him not to send the Duke personally, and yet. I will need to have a talk with him.’ Cassandra’s fingers stiffened as she said in a soft tone.

"Does the Duke want me to teach the techniques in the book to Ed?" Cassandra asked.

"Ed?" Aiden raised his eyebrows.

"The guard assigned to me." Cassandra looked down as she played with her fingers.

"He told you that?" A=Duke Salvador asked as he laughed.

Cassandra was confused. Why would the Duke ask such a question? She nodded her head as

Aiden extended his hand as he pulled Princess Cassandra towards himself. Cassandra was frightened as she closed her eyes. But soon she realized that she was now close to the Duke again. Her body was bent looking straight into the Duke’s gaze.

Aiden was enjoying the expression on Princess Cassandra’s face. "You know, that is my nickname."

Cassandra’s eyes were about to roll out in shock. She swallowed as she was stiffened.

"My mother used to call me that." Aiden’s finger on Cassandra’s hand moved, as his thumb cared for her skin. "If Princess Cassandra wants, she is free to call me Ed in the future."

Cassandra realized what Duke Salvador was saying as she pushed the man back and stood up straight. "N... No .." Princess Cassandra’s tone trembled.

Seeing the embellishment in Cassandra’s face there was a smile on Duke Salvador’s lips. He did not trouble the fifth Princess as he left her hand with care.

Aiden’s face turned sharp as he looked at Cassandra with determination. "So you wanted to confirm that I have given you permission to teach the things in your book to the guard?" Aiden raised his eyebrows as he continued with a husky voice. "Not guard, it’s Ed."

Cassandra’s neck turned red with embarrassment. She closed her eyes as she tried controlling her unsteady heart.

’Why is Duke Salvador behaving like this?’

’Is there something wrong?’

’Will he be good and then suddenly turn back and kill me?’

’No, the Duke is not that cruel.’

’RIGHT?’

Cassandra looked up as her gaze stared at Duke Salvador without saying a word. But soon Aiden’s words brought her back to reality.

"Or does the Princess prefer me coming here as you cannot come to visit me? If that is the case, it might be a little difficult but I can think of a way to come by at night so yo ...."

"NO," Cassandra shouted as her eyes widened at every word that Duke Salvador said. "I mean, I can teach everything that I can understand to Ed. Do not worry about it. I will not disappoint the Duke. After all, Duke Salvador is busy with work and .."

"HAA .. HA .." Aiden laughed at Cassandra’s speedy explanation. It was as if she was trying extremely hard to convince him to not come to her again.

’But she is never like that when she thinks I am Ed.’

’Her eyes smile as an easiness spreads through it.’

’Her smile that blooms as if the flower might come to life again.’

’Her whole aura is lively.’

’But now ..’ Aiden looked down at Cassandra who was full of nervousness and a little frightened.

Aiden’s gaze darkened. ’If she likes Ed, then maybe Ed can stop her marriage. Maybe then in the future, the fifth Princess will not hate him so much.

Aiden’s mind was telling him that was not the case but his heart won’t stop telling him to give it a chance. What if Ed gives a good impression of Aiden to the Princess.

’Will Princess Cassandra be as happy with me as she is with a guard?’

Aiden wanted to find out when Amy’s words came back. ’Ed likes the Princess.’

Duke Salvador’s mind exploded. He did not want to hear such things again. He knew how it felt and it was just curiosity. How could he like the fifth Princess? He had never heard of her and it was just a coincidence that made him notice her.

’So I cannot fall in love so easily.’

’Love is hard to come by.’

’And when I am in love I will never let the person get away from me.’

Aiden thought as he looked up at the fifth Princess. He stood up as he turned around, refusing to look into the Princess’s eyes. "You will complete the coping and return the book to Ed."

Aiden took a step forward but he paused midway. "But don’t forget to teach him everything that is in it. I want him to know it all."

Cassandra nodded her head. "Yes." She said in a soft tone.

Cassandra only wished that the Duke could leave her bedroom as soon as possible.

Cassandra was afraid that someone might just come in. What would happen if they saw Duke Salvador in her room?

Cassandra shook her head as she saw the Duke leaving the room through the window. It was as if she looked like a breath of life. Cassandra ran her hand through her hair as she went towards the window. She looked outside but could not see anyone there. As if Duke Salvador had never visited.

’He is such a mysterious person.’

’Coming and leaving my room at will as if he is the owner.’

Cassandra sat beside the window as she looked up at the moon. The night was getting darker but the moon was still giving out light. It was the only source for Cassandra to live.

Moon is proof that even in darkness there will always be a source of light that will show you a way.

"When will my moon appear?" Cassandra said in a murmur. "I hope the person will not take long to find me in the darkness."
