Carrying a Jurassic on me-Chapter 744 - 375: Unexpected Storm_2
Chapter 744: Chapter 375: Unexpected Storm_2
"We weren’t planning on coming today, but you gave us some beef yesterday, so our families wanted to thank you. They asked us to bring over some stuff for you." The two guys said as they started to unload some items.
Upon seeing the items, Yan Fei said, "Your families really go to unnecessary lengths. I had extra beef and wanted you guys to help finish it. Now they’ve messed you around by making you bring over stuff. Ridiculous!"
"Exactly!" Yang Qian nodded in agreement. "I’ve told them but they insisted on sending them anyway. Just accept them, it’s not like it cost them anything. You don’t know how nitpicky adults can be..."
Yan Fei nonchalantly took the pack of cigarettes and box of tea leaves, "Where are you guys planning to fish?"
"Of course in your pond, we can’t catch anything anywhere else!" Jiao Bing confidently exclaimed. "Don’t you still have earthworms? So now, we don’t have to dig up any ourselves. Let’s get started quickly, we’re going to catch fish and take pictures! We got a new roll of film!"
"Don’t you two have any shame left?" Yan Fei was speechless. "People normally go to rivers or reservoirs to fish, but you two are here catching fish that I’ve caught, and you’re even planning to take photographs?"
"You just let it be. We’re going to take a photo of the fish we catch and then release them back. We don’t care about eating them." Yang Qian said nonchalantly. "After we catch fish, we’ll go to the river and take photos. When the photos are developed, who would know where the fish was caught!"
"Exactly, exactly!" Jiao Bing agreed enthusiastically. "You just go ahead with your work. Focus on making money and becoming a big boss. Don’t hang out with us!"
"Exactly, exactly!" Yang Qian nodded vigorously. "Don’t let us interrupt your goal of becoming a boss. Just focus on your work, we’re fine by ourselves!"
Yan Fei was amused by the phrases ’make money and become a boss’ coming from these two. He wasn’t sure what to say. If he hadn’t overheard their conversation outside the cattle farm last night, he might have thought they were being mature.
He decided to leave them be and returned to supervise the five guys and Pang Fa.
These two played throughout the morning, ending up breaking their fishing poles. They had the gall to ask Yan Fei to make new ones using bamboo sticks. Only at noon did they finally return home content. Before leaving, they expressed their regrets, "We won’t be able to send you the photos tomorrow. We’ll bring them over after our exams! Don’t worry."
The five guys from Guan Village certainly lived up to Yan Fei’s expectations once they arrived, showing themselves to be exceptionally industrious. They were all used to doing physical work from a young age and didn’t mind the dirt or the exhaustion. They just wanted to stay busy. As there was not much work in the greenhouse, they enthusiastically helped with the construction work. They were familiar with bricklaying tasks and weren’t afraid of the hard work involved, proving themselves to be good workers.
Checking the time, Yan Fei issued some instructions for the site and rushed off to the Provincial City to pick-up his wife.
The more people around, the better. He could leave whenever he wished without any worries.
The first order of business on reaching Provincial City was to check on the house. It would be more or less completed in three to five days. Yan Fei suggested to Xu Xiaoyan, "What if we stayed here and had some fun for a few days, waiting for the house to be completely finished before we return?"
The young lady had no objections, and immediately started planning. "That sounds perfect. Quite a few universities are holding art performances now! We can go watch them one after the other..."
After hearing her explanation, Yan Fei realized that universities usually don’t have holidays this late, but this year was an exception. The delay was to facilitate various performances to celebrate Hong Kong’s handover.
The Provincial University Law School was no exception, but Miss Xu Xiaoyan had refused the request from her class and the school to participate due to the attention she garnered during her last performance and the subsequent troubles. As soon as she finished her exams, she found herself with nothing to do.
The celebrations were held a few days before the actual date of Hong Kong’s handover and the dates for these events were separately arranged, they were not all on the same day. That’s why Miss Xu Xiaoyan was able to plan for them to attend several art performances at different schools.
The best thing about universities was that they won’t restrict outsiders from attending their events. The pair went around like they were attending a fair. Whenever there was a show, they would watch it, if not, they could still see the rehearsals through their old classmates.
After watching for two days, Xu Xiaoyan was still a bit regretful, "Really, if we could get tickets for the provincial performances, that would be great, they are always better than the school ones!"
Yan Fei comforted her, "You can watch them when we go home anyway, don’t they broadcast them all over TV in the province?"
The young lady argued convincingly, "It’s not the same! The shows on TV don’t have the atmosphere, don’t you find it especially exciting to watch them live?"
It was indeed quite exciting. The performances in the university were just so-so, with singing, dancing, playing the flute, and makeshift costumes. However, the live atmosphere was truly fervent. Students who stayed back for holidays enjoyed the lively events, their enthusiasm usually soared. After a performance, you would see hands everywhere reddened from clapping, and some even lost their voices from shouting. Even if someone was usually quite introverted, they couldn’t help but get caught up in the enthusiasm at the live venue.
Luckily, Boss Wang had announced that the house would be ready tomorrow, distracting the young lady from her disappointment of not watching the provincial live performances.
The two of them just stayed in their new house on the last day, watching the workers patching up here and there, clearing up the rubbish.
This was their new house, and the young lady couldn’t hide her excitement. She rolled up her sleeves and invited Yan Fei to help out.
The quaint little building was really lovely -- red walls and green tiles, stone piers, and stone lions, trees providing shade, and a small pond. It looked like a large bathing pool, but Boss Wang had thoughtfully added a small stream—there was a tap next to the area of the pond where the water level wasn’t high for convenient water change, and of course, a drainage outlet. Normally it was sealed, but when changing water, all they needed to do was remove the plug.
As Yan Fei had planted the trees in advance, the stream which looked like a small ditch to him, snaked around a few turns, with small pebbles laid on the bottom. It was quite a thoughtful touch.
The more they looked at it, the happier they were, so they cleaned up after the workers and promptly paid Boss Wang.
Gazing at their new house, Miss Xu Xiaoyan was excessively delighted. They had planned to go back home that day, but they stayed through half of the day, leading Yan Fei to accompany her in moving, and cancelling the lease for the other house.
But after spending a full day on this, something happened which caused Yan Fei to blow his top.
The next morning, while they were still dawdling in their new home, Yan Fei’s pager beeped.
Upon checking, it was a message from Heizi. freewēbnoveℓ.com
The guys selling beef in the city met with trouble!
The reason was simple, Pang Fa and Old Ou went to sell beef, and since there were also many retail sales later. So, after selling wholesale to the restaurants, they would drive around the outskirts of the city, peddling for a day.
The beef selling truck was big, and while it was not allowed into the city, it was fine as long as they didn’t enter the city. And the people in the city knew that the vegetables and meat in the wet markets around were much cheaper than those in the city. Many were willing to go to the wet markets on the outskirts to buy groceries—the city limits were also small then, and it didn’t take much effort to get to another place. You could save some money by pedaling a bit more on the bicycle, who wouldn’t want to do that?
Pang Fa and his companions also gradually gained experience in selling beef, like trying a different market each time. Even though they just started and weren’t very clear about which wet markets had more people or higher spending levels.
This time, they went to a wet market near the river in the Ring city. Pang Fa and Old Ou were experienced and as there were many retail sales, they brought Old Gao, Li Fang, and Chang Liang—originally, there were fewer people at the cattle farm, and if many people went, they worried there might not be enough people left to work. But now they had five extra boys, so a few people could be away for half a day without worrying. Having more people was an advantage.
But they were particularly unlucky that day, as soon there was someone picking a fight with them, and they got into a brawl...
