Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 575: You’re All Alone
He Juan had become so accustomed to people fearing him that the first thought crossing his mind upon finding the Omega frozen in place was: Ah, he is afraid of me.
Thus he made a conscious effort to appear as unthreatening as possible. Nonetheless, the Omega remained immobilized as though he found it hard to believe that He Juan wouldn’t lunge at him, leaving him utterly helpless.
Was he really that scary, or was it the weak mentality of the current generation? Even Mu Yuze still had dared to hang around him after witnessing him gouge out someone’s eyeballs.
He Juan quickly shook his head once he caught his thoughts wandering to his mate again. He should stop comparing every Omega he met to Mu Yuze. He already knew that his little mate was the best – the bravest, smartest, prettiest – and no one could ever come close to the tip of his fingers.
Or perhaps it was just him who was being too biased.
To show that he meant no harm, He Juan deliberately strolled over to the window, gazing outside. "Go on," he urged.
He had come here with the expectations that the special attraction would entertain him even if it’s for a few hours, but it turned out he was wrong. Imagine his shock when he eventually found out that Phoenix Ablaze was a secret haven for BDSM enthusiasts, and ’Alice in Wonderland’ was nothing more than the reenactment of a long-lost primal hunt!
He Juan did not hold the slightest interest in chasing after some random Omegas, but he reluctantly agreed to participate upon sensing the hope and nervousness in Han Shan’s eyes. This event was held only twice a year, so he might as well humor Han Shan while he was at it.
As soon as the event started, he had moved through the maze and ended up settling in this secluded room. He had intended to spend the rest of his time here, simply closing his eyes to rest because this was way past his bedtime – that’s right, the notorious XIU finally had a fucking bedtime which was 11 pm. Furthermore, a headache had begun to gnaw at him, one that couldn’t be relieved even with aromatherapy oil.
Alas, who could have anticipated that an Omega would unwittingly stumble in right when he had just managed to catch some much-needed rest?
He Juan sighed and massaged his aching temple, while the Omega finally chose to speak up at that moment.
"Your head..." he blurted out, his voice slightly hoarse. He cleared his throat before asking, his voice soft and tentative, "Is your head hurting?"
He Juan’s heart skipped a beat at the sound of that voice, and his brows furrowed at his own strange reaction. He pondered on it for a second and reckoned that it must be because he had not expected the omega to speak, and thus he was slightly taken aback. Still, there was just something about the omega’s tone, perhaps it was the hesitancy or the sincere concern, that made it difficult for He Juan to respond harshly.
Alas, it did not mean that he would act all gentle either. After all, he was a man with a mate. Without even turning around, he replied politely, "I’m afraid that’s none of your concern."
He could see the Omega flinch through the reflection on the window as though He Juan’s words had scalded him. Wordlessly, He Juan averted his gaze, his frown deepening. What was up with this strange sense of guilt prickling into his heart? Had he become too soft-hearted and compassionate after losing his memories?
He Juan was unwilling to interact more than necessary. Steeling himself, he was ready to send the omega on his way. But just then, he noticed the omega cautiously approaching, which caused him to step into the moonlight that streamed in through the window.
He Juan had not really paid any attention to what the omega looked like, but now...
He abruptly turned around, catching the other person off guard. He narrowed his eyes, steely and scrutinizing, "Do we know each other?"
He heard more than seen the Omega taking a sharp breath, his voice quivering ever so slightly. "...What?"
Had he looked into the Omega’s eyes, he would have seen the flicker of hope that swirled within its depth. Perhaps he might even notice that the Omega’s eyes were not entirely black, but held a shade of midnight blue, resembling someone he held dear to his heart.
But alas, He Juan was more focused in studying the Omega’s overall demeanor. His tense shoulders, his clenched fists, his wary stance...
He Juan gave a smile that did not reach his eyes. "You’re from the police, aren’t you?"
Though he asked that, his tone sounded so firm as though he had drawn to a conclusion on his own. Running his fingers through his hair, he released a heavy sigh, "Let me guess. Are you from the Yuyang Municipal Bureau? Otherwise I can’t think of any other team that would be this desperate to meet me. Have you had prior contact with me before the accident in the harbor?"
When he was met with nothing but silence, He Juan’s lips slanted into a mirthless smile, "Mn, it seems like I’m spot on."
He should have seen this coming. It was unlikely for them to give up just because their requests were blocked by Liang Yuanjun. However, he had truly underestimated the extent of their tenacity. They were even willing to go to great lengths to infiltrate the bar.
Where had they even found out his itinerary from? He made a mental note to have a good talk with Han Shan later.
For now though...
"Speak," He Juan leaned against the window and crossed his arms over his chest, the black shirt doing nothing but accentuating the flex of his muscular biceps. "Now that I have caught you, don’t think that I will let you go so easily. You’re all alone without your comrades, little rabbit."
The Omega’s throat bobbed, and He Juan found his eyes following the motion without him realizing. Perhaps it was because of the palpable tension in the air, a thin layer of perspiration clung to the Omega’s skin, casting a luminous sheen over his fair complexion.
After a brief pause, he finally spoke, his voice slightly unsteady, "...What do you want to know?"
He Juan fought not to show the eagerness on his face. According to Chen Youzhi, the other He Juan had gotten himself entangled in a murder case, meaning that the police must have dug out everything there was to know about him. Moreover, the one before him was not just a thick stack of papers with printed ink, but a real living human who had interacted with his past self. There was no source of information better than this person!
He Juan couldn’t wait to learn about the seven years of his life that had been lost to him. He wanted to know about the job he’d had, the people he’d met, but more importantly...
"Did I, by any chance, have a lover?" he asked for the question he wanted to know the most, given the obnoxious dreams that had been plaguing him recently.
