Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 574: I Don’t Bite
Mu Yuze’s entire body remained frozen in place, his mind reeling as that familiar endearment echoed beside his ears again and again like a broken cassette.
Am I dreaming? He wondered dazedly. Have I missed him so much that I conjured his voice out of thin air?
However, no sooner had that question crossed his mind, slow and deliberate footsteps approached him from behind. And just like that, Mu Yuze’s heartbeat, which had barely slowed down, began to thrash wildly inside his ribcage to the point where he could feel the skin on his chest vibrate with the sheer intensity of it. His pupils dilated sharply and without a warning, tears welled up in his eyes.
How could he ever be mistaken about it? This overpowering aura capable of sucking the very air out of the room, this intense presence that commanded attention even when he did nothing but simply stand... it could only be one person.
Even without turning around, Mu Yuze was painfully aware of the presence behind him, and he bodily flinched when He Juan brushed past him to pull open the door just by a crack, enough to let his broad frame fill the gap and shield Mu Yuze behind him.
"Do you need something?" He Juan’s voice was polite as he addressed the two Alphas outside, who had been poised to barge in.
Mu Yuze could literally visualize it even with his eyes closed. Right now, he must have that ever gentle yet distant smile on his face. But there was a commanding steel in his silver eyes that could unconsciously pressure anyone in his presence.
And sure enough, the two Alphas, who had chased after Mu Yuze for almost half an hour, seemed to have lost all bravado in the face of a superior Alpha. "W–We saw an Omega entering..."
"Yeah, he wore a bunny suit...!"
He Juan let out a brief chuckle before smoothly lying through his teeth, "An Omega? I’m afraid you have searched in the wrong place."
How could the two Alphas be mistaken when they had clearly seen Mu Yuze run into this room with their own eyes? Perhaps it was only He Juan who could tell such an obvious lie without batting an eyelid.
Seriously, this person’s shamelessness really knew no bounds.
As soon as the shock wore off, Mu Yuze finally mustered enough strength to raise his head, and the tears that had been clinging to his lashes immediately fell as he gazed at those familiar broad shoulders and long inky hair that cascaded down to the waist. He let out a shaky exhale, his lips parting without a sound.
Gege...
If previously Mu Yuze still harbored a tiny bit of doubt when he watched the trending video of Prime Minister Liang’s interview in the airport, then any traces of it had evaporated without a trace. The man before him was undoubtedly, unmistakably XIU— his Juan-gege from seven years ago, the one who had so cruelly left him behind.
Lost? How could he be lost, if this was the place he had been searching for all along?
Vexed by the obvious lie, the first Alpha attempted to protest, "What do you mean by the wrong place? Clearly, we have seen him with—"
"Hush!" The second Alpha jabbed him with an elbow before addressing He Juan with a more subdued and courteous tone, "Sir, could you possibly be... XIU?"
"What?! He is XIU?!"
No one in this country had not heard the name ’XIU’ at least once in their lives before. He had practically become a living legend. The man shrouded in mysteries, the enigma that none had managed to see through, and countless other monikers.
The secrecy notwithstanding, there was one absolute fact about him: XIU was an extremely dangerous man. He had killed countless people who trafficked Omegas, and had even been hailed as the Uncrowded Hero of Justice. It was thanks to him that many missing Omegas could once again return to the embrace of their families.
What would such a man think if he were to notice their malicious intention towards the Omega in a bunny suit?
Revenge did taste sweet, but before that, they had to secure their own lives first!
Colors drained from the two Alphas’ faces as He Juan maintained his impeccable smile at them. Awkwardly, they tried to pull the corner of their lips into a fawning smile, though it only made them look constipated. "Hehe, XIU... f–forgive us for not recognizing you sooner..."
"Seems like we have really gotten to the wrong place."
"Right, right, right! Let’s just keep searching somewhere else!"
"Sorry for bothering you, XIU!"
Riding on that excuse, they immediately turned tail and ran away from that place.
Sighing, He Juan closed the door and walked back into the room without sparing the Omega another glance. "What a crude and ridiculous event, I really can’t see the appeal of it. Of course, no offense to you who decided to participate in it. But next time, if you don’t want any accidents to happen, just avoid joining in the first place and cherish yourself a little bit more..." He Juan couldn’t help but nag, and it was so familiar that Mu Yuze felt a sharp ache piercing into his lungs, rendering him unable to breathe properly.
Oh how he had missed this. How he had missed He Juan, who would never hesitate to extend his kindness to someone whom he had just met. Mu Yuze missed him so, so much that he felt like his chest was going to burst apart from the sheer magnitude of his longing.
Gege, his heart cried out, each syllable was like a scar on his soul. Gege, gege, gege, gegegegegegegege—
He had to say something. He must. He was certain that He Juan still remembered him. All he needed to do was to take off his mask and introduce himself, and He Juan would definitely recognize him. Mu Yuze was convinced of it, as surely as a lost melody recognized the familiar chords of a forgotten song.
But why... why couldn’t his body move an inch? Why couldn’t his throat work, even if it was only to let out a whimper?
He felt paralyzed from head to toe as if he were under a binding spell, and all he could do was to trail after the man with his eyes. Too fixated was he in He Juan, he even failed to take in his surroundings which was built akin to an office with a large mahogany table, a swivel chair, cozy sofas and a low table meant for receiving guests.
This situation was ironically like their first reunion a few months ago. At that time, no matter how desperately he wished to throw himself into He Juan’s arms, no matter how agonizingly he wished to talk to He Juan, he found himself unable to do it. He couldn’t even respond when He Juan spoke to him, when He Juan smiled at him. He couldn’t.
Because he knew that as soon as he did, the torrent of feelings he had been suppressing for ten years would come tumbling down like an avalanche, tearing him apart and scorching him inside out.
His love for He Juan was like a double-edged sword. It was powerful and all-consuming. Just like how it could give him a reason to keep going seven years ago, it would also kill him one day.
Completely unaware of the emotional storm raging within the Omega, He Juan continued to speak as he gestured toward the door on the other side that Mu Yuze had overlooked. "Go on. If you walk through that door, you can avoid those two Alphas. Just find a room to hide in if you’ve had enough of this attraction."
When he received no response from the other, He Juan finally turned to face Mu Yuze for the very first time and raised a mirthful brow, "What is it? Do I look that scary?" Helplessness flashed in his eyes as he added, "Don’t be afraid. Contrary to the popular belief, I don’t bite."
