Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 466: Wife Slave
Adeline met her gaze evenly.
"Only I know how much I suffered. People were pointing fingers, calling me names, and giving me disgusting looks. You ruined my morning and tried to destroy my reputation. Asking for the minimum compensation isn’t wrong."
The crowd murmured in agreement.
"She’s right, miss you were the one who was wrong in the first place."
"Yes! Yes! Yes! Pay her."
"You caused the mess, take responsibility."
Tanya felt her legs weaken under the weight of so many disapproving stares.
Humiliation burned her cheeks, but she forced herself to stay composed.
In the end, she transferred the additional three thousand dollars with trembling fingers, her mind boiling with resentment.
’I’ll get this money back,’ she swore internally. ’One day, I’ll return this humiliation tenfold.’
But beneath her anger lurked something else: unease. Nothing about this encounter had gone according to her investigation.
She had been told that Adeline was timid, soft-spoken, and easily pushed around.
Yet the girl standing before her was steady, confident, and completely unafraid.
Tanya stared at her, confused. ’How did the reports get it so wrong? She’s not timid at all... she’s frighteningly composed. Why?’
The truth was simple.
Adeline wasn’t alone anymore.
She had Miss Dawn behind her, a silent shield no one could see.
She had Alex who genuinely cared for her, even if she refused to misuse that affection.
She wasn’t the kind of person to weaponize connections, but their presence gave her strength.
She knew, deep in her bones, ’I won’t be bullied again.’
After Tanya finally left in a storm of humiliation and forced compensation, Adeline took a steady breath, straightened her damp clothes as much as she could, and walked out of the café.
The faint smell of coffee still clung to her, a reminder of the absurd morning she had endured.
She didn’t allow the frustration to settle into her bones. Instead, she held her head high and made her way towards Alex Corporation.
By the time she stepped into the building, the cool air-conditioning brushed against her skin, calming the leftover irritation.
Her heels clicked sharply against the marble floor as she moved with purpose, ignoring the curious glances from employees who noticed the faint stains on her shirt.
Her mind was calm, her resolve firm. ’I need to warn Alex.’
Moments later, she reached his office. She knocked once, received acknowledgment from inside, and pushed the door open.
Alex sat behind his desk, his sleeves rolled up, listening to his assistant who was explaining some business projections.
The moment Alex spotted her, a coffee-stained Adeline walking in with a serious expression, his voice halted mid-sentence.
His eyebrows knitted together in concern before he turned to his assistant. "Leave us. Also, prepare a set of extra clothes of Adeline’s size"
The assistant immediately gathered his files and exited the room, giving Adeline a curious final glance before closing the door behind him.
As soon as they were alone, Alex rose from his chair, eyes softening with unmistakable worry. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"What happened? Did something serious occur for you to rush in like this?"
Adeline steadied herself. She inhaled deeply through her nose, smelling faint traces of his cologne, clean sandalwood with something warm beneath it.
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and spoke in as professional a tone as she could muster.
"I apologize for entering in such a hurry," she said. "But I felt it was important to remind you of something."
Alex’s expression shifted, curiosity touching his features. "Remind me of what?"
For a fleeting second, she saw admiration in his eyes, gentle, unwavering, the kind that made her heart tremble if she stared for too long. She forced herself to look away.
She recalled Tanya’s mocking smirk, the stare of the ex-boyfriend-actor, the absurd accusations.
She exhaled slowly and spoke clearly. "I think I may have met someone who is... your admirer. Or at least obsessed with you."
Alex’s brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"
And so she explained. She told him everything: the spilled coffee, the accusation, the staged ex-boyfriend, the fake story, and the strangely familiar way Tanya spoke about Alex’s corporation, as if she had been there countless times.
As Alex listened, his jaw tightened, and a shadow settled over his expression. "Do you suspect she did all of that because of me?"
Adeline let out a humorless laugh.
"There were two things that made me suspicious. First: when she realized I wasn’t reacting according to whatever script she had in mind, she immediately changed the narrative with her ’ex-boyfriend.’ It was too rehearsed."
Alex nodded slowly.
"Second," Adeline continued, "her so-called ex-boyfriend said he viewed my profile because he wanted to ’hire’ me. But I don’t have a finance background. I’m in medicine. What company would need me? And what are the odds that the girl he supposedly cheated with also had my name? It was too convenient... almost painfully so."
Alex nodded again, more firmly this time. "You’re right. It sounds staged."
"And," Adeline added, "the moment she mentioned your corporation casually, as if it was her usual hangout spot... I knew something was off."
Alex stood silent for a few seconds, his lips pressed into a thin line. Then he finally said, "I’ll investigate her immediately."
Adeline gave a quiet hum. "When the results come out, could you show them to me? If she dares to bother me again, I’ll... handle her myself."
For a moment, Alex just looked at her, truly looked at her, with admiration flickering like warm fire in his gaze.
She didn’t beg for his protection. She didn’t cling. She didn’t cry. She had quietly asked for the information so she could protect herself.
’She’s incredible,’ Alex thought, watching her with a heart that softened without his permission.
He stepped closer and spoke gently.
"I’ll deal with her quickly. But I’ll also tell you her weaknesses, that way, you have something to use if she ever comes after you again."
Before she could reply, he reached forward and softly took her hand. His touch was warm, steady, and unshakeably sincere.
Adeline stiffened in surprise, not pulling away, her fingers trembling just slightly.
Sensing no rejection, Alex grew bolder. His other hand rose to rest lightly against her waist, the warmth of his palm seeping through the thin fabric of her shirt.
He lowered his voice until it was intimate, velvet-soft.
"I really want to apologize to you," he murmured. "Let me make it up to you. Allow me to take you to a candlelight dinner."
Her mind blanked. Her breath caught somewhere between her chest and her throat, and she stammered helplessly. "I... I’m just an employee..."
However, Alex leaned slightly toward her ear, his breath brushing gently against her skin, and murmured,
"Even you know my intentions aren’t pure. If I saw you only as my employee, I wouldn’t have bothered throwing a party for you. And during that party... we definitely did things a boss and employee shouldn’t do."
Adeline felt her ears ignite instantly. Heat crawled down her neck, and she almost bit her lip from sheer nervousness.
Her heart pounded as memories rushed in, the dim corner of the party venue, the haze of alcohol, the warmth of Alex’s breath against her cheek, and then... the bed.
’How did that even happen...?’ she thought, her face burning so fiercely that she felt she might combust.
The only saving grace was Alex’s restraint. Even though they had both been drunk, Alex had not crossed any irrevocable lines.
Aside from heated kissing and a few clumsy touches, nothing else had happened.
But still, for someone like Adeline... who had never even imagined being intimate with a man she admired, it was enough to make her avoid him for days out of pure embarrassment.
If it wasn’t for Tanya’s ridiculous behavior and the need to inform Alex about her admirer, she might have continued ignoring him forever.
Yet here he was now, flirting so boldly that she felt the ground shifting beneath her feet.
’If I still pretend not to understand... I’m truly a naive fool.’
She took a deep breath and tried to steady herself. "We’re not suited," she whispered softly. "I come from a completely different background. Your family would never accept..."
Alex cut her off with a low, amused chuckle. Before she could retreat, he leaned closer, burying his face in the curve of her neck.
His warm breath tickled her skin, and she let out a soft, involuntary sound.
Since she didn’t push him away, he nuzzled lightly against her nape, making her knees weaken.
His voice softened, warm and intimate as it spread across her sensitive skin.
"Forget my family. They’d be overjoyed to know I finally found a wife. They’d bless us instantly. And you don’t need to worry about anyone bullying you. Even if they tried, I’d become their biggest problem. I’d be your personal wife-slave if I have to."
Adeline’s breath trembled. His words were too sweet, too earnest, and too overwhelming.
