The Noble Lady's Rebirth: She just wants to Rest in Peace!-Chapter 306 - 307: Belated Arrival
Hailan naturally knew when to leave, so she retreated, leaving only the two people in the room.
Lin Youning’s face felt warm, "I’ve already had someone bring in hot water. Please wait for a moment, I’ll have someone bring in tea."
Gu Yifeng looked at her and laughed, his gaze as gentle as water, "Didn’t you make me a set of cotton underclothes? Find it. This scent of alcohol on me is unpleasant even to myself."
"I’ll look for it right away." Lin Youning withdrew her hand to leave, but Gu Yifeng held onto her.
Lin Youning glanced back at him with surprise, unsure what her big brother had in mind.
In the next moment, she was pulled suddenly into his embrace, crashing into his chest. Though it didn’t hurt, it made her nose twinge, and Lin Youning’s eyes reddened as she heard a muffled laugh above.
A bit flustered and angry, she punched the chest of the person in front of her, but embarrassment kept her silent, which only made Gu Yifeng laugh even louder.
Standing outside, Hailan and Li Si could hear the Marquis laughing inside, low and raspy.
It seemed that since yesterday, the Marquis had started to laugh more often, especially out loud.
Inside the room, Lin Youning was finally locked tightly in his embrace, with no chance to punch him. Living for two lifetimes, yet facing emotions for the first time, even though she understood many things, she still felt like a young girl dealing with love.
Gu Yifeng’s voice was low and raspy as he whispered in Sister Ning’s ear, "Tonight, we have to make up for the wedding night. How could I come back drunk?"
Lin Youning’s ears were burning, far beyond warming up; she hadn’t expected her usually composed big brother to have this side.
How could he utter such embarrassing words?
Is it a side of him she had never seen before? Was he always like this around women?
Perhaps, he previously treated her like a sister, so she hadn’t noticed?
Thinking about the possibility that he treated Mrs. Dong or other women, or those aunts similarly, Lin Youning felt a pang of distress.
Feeling the little form in his arms grow tense, Gu Yifeng’s smile deepened, coaxing softly, "It’s the first time I’ve ever spoken such words to someone. This counts as a bit of romance, doesn’t it?"
It turns out he had only said it to her.
Lin Youning breathed a sigh of relief and realized she was being too petty, then she smiled sweetly.
Gu Yifeng held her on his lap, "Already jealous? I remember you used to push me away."
Having the truth exposed, Lin Youning’s face was flushed as if it could drip blood, "The maids will soon bring in hot water. I should help you check."
But Gu Yifeng didn’t let go, keeping her seated in his lap. He looked dashing, exuding an aura of authority. When he gazed gently at you, it was like a pool of water that could melt you.
His slender fingers, with slight calluses from years of sword practice, brushed against Sister Ning’s face, making Lin Youning shiver involuntarily. She quickly grabbed that large hand to stop it from moving further.
"The servants will see."
But it made no difference; Gu Yifeng had already shifted, burying his face in her neck, breathing warm air against it.
Unable to resist, Lin Youning tried to move aside, heart racing, "Aren’t you afraid of losing your stature?"
Her voice softened inadvertently, weak and feeble.
Gu Yifeng adored her transformation, looking at the delicate features in his arms, slightly parted red lips like ripe cherries waiting to be picked, eyelids trembling like the wings of a butterfly on the verge of flight, making you hesitate to disturb her.
Such a fragile person made Gu Yifeng nearly want to meld her with his own being at that moment.
He suppressed the passionate flurry in his blood, deeply inhaling with his nose at Sister Ning’s neck, then sat upright, releasing Sister Ning, "You’ve also got alcohol scent on you. Let’s ask for hot water to wash it off together."
Lin Youning glared at him, but her look had a unique charm in Gu Yifeng’s eyes, making him feel warm all over.
Is this what love feels like?
No matter what the other person did, it made your heart flutter, drawing your eyes irresistibly towards them.
Seeing her older brother staring at her, Lin Youning couldn’t care about being shy, so she went outside to ask if the water had been brought.
The water had already been delivered, but Li Si and Hailan were keeping watch outside. Now seeing Madam ask for water, they let someone bring it in, and Li Si entered the back room to assist the Marquis with bathing.
Lin Youning entered the inner chamber, found the underclothes she made, and handed it to Hailan for Li Si, while she went back inside to fetch another set of cotton clothes.
Having already washed early, calling for more water now would make the servants wonder what was happening. Lin Youning couldn’t afford this embarrassment, so without Hailan’s help, she changed her clothes herself.
Remembering her brother’s earlier words, Lin Youning touched her throbbing heart, recalling past times and smiling bitterly. Though she had given birth to Brother Zong before, she never knew what it felt like to be a woman, the wedding night blurred with haze due to being drugged. Awakening the next day, it had all passed, ignorant of who she shared the room with or what happened.
It wasn’t until her final moments she learned Brother Zong wasn’t Gu Er’s child. Apparently, coming back in this lifetime wasn’t in vain; she discovered many things and found true family.
And now, she even had someone whose heart beat in tune with hers, promising to remain together for a lifetime.
Gu Yifeng entered, hair scattered and still dripping, wearing a long robe, spotting Sister Ning by the bed lost in thought. He disliked seeing her distracted, sensing heavy burdens within she wouldn’t share, blocking him from her world.
Gu Yifeng strode grandly to the window, startling Lin Youning. Li Youning returned to her senses, looked up at him, her eyes calm, both meeting gazes, saying nothing yet feeling the mutual presence in their hearts.
Gu Yifeng personally pulled down the drapes as Lin Youning silently slipped off embroidered shoes, climbed onto the bed, moved inward, pulling covers over herself. Though it was a routine night, knowing what lay ahead made her heart race and feel slightly awkward.
Gu Yifeng, though having children already, sensed immense joy seeing his beloved woman in bed, akin to the four great joys of life.
Rain falling after drought, meeting a friend in a distant land, earning recognition after exams, the wedding night.
This was his true wedding night.
