Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 465: Compensation
Tanya froze. Her eyes flickered with surprise, the kind one tries to hide but fails miserably. She hadn’t expected the girl to see through her so easily.
’How did she notice?’ Tanya wondered, her heartbeat quickening in her chest.
’How did she figure out that I’m here to test her... to see if she cries, gets angry, or acts impulsively? How does she already know that I’m here to observe whether she’s the emotional type who creates scenes?’
But Adeline had noticed, and that irritated Tanya even more.
If Adeline was calm, composed, steady, and difficult to shake, then Tanya knew she had only one path: become unreasonable.
Create trouble. Push her until she finally broke. Then, when Adeline was exhausted, Tanya would offer a "solution"... leaving Alex.
That would be her doorway in.
She thought about the way she had almost made Alex look at her... how close she had been to capturing his attention... until Adeline showed up like an unexpected thorn.
That thought filled Tanya with a hot, sharp resentment.
She lifted her chin and smirked. "It’s funny that you act clueless. You may not remember this, but you were confessed to not long ago."
Adeline blinked once, frowning. "Even if that’s true, it still doesn’t give you the right to splash coffee on me."
Tanya let out a cold laugh.
"That admirer was my ex-boyfriend. He left me because he said you kept sending him flirty messages. He claimed you ’caught his attention.’ So tell me, why shouldn’t I take revenge on someone shameless enough to seduce someone else’s boyfriend?"
The people nearby, hearing Tanya’s harsh accusation, couldn’t help but shift their gaze toward Adeline.
A few pairs of eyes lingered on her with thinly veiled judgment, their expressions quietly whispering Is it true?
The weight of their stares pressed against Adeline’s skin like warm needles, but she didn’t flinch.
Instead, she looked directly at Tanya, her voice cold and steady. "Where is the proof?"
Tanya blinked, caught off guard. "What?"
"You don’t expect me to believe you just because you’re throwing words at me, right?" Adeline continued.
"If you can’t show proof right now, this moment, I will go straight to the police station and file a complaint for slander. And I’ll sue you for defamation."
A few people gasped softly. Tanya’s eyes widened before a humorless laugh escaped her.
"You really take yourself too seriously," she scoffed. "Why do you think I came here? Of course, I have proof."
With an air of confidence, she pulled out her phone and dialed someone. When the call connected, her voice softened into something fake and sweet.
"Where are you? Come to the café near Alex’s corporation... yes, right away."
She ended the call and smirked at Adeline, her lips curling with poisonous satisfaction. "You’re done for."
Adeline simply nodded, expression unreadable, before she turned and walked toward the counter.
Tanya frowned, baffled. ’What is she doing now? Drinking coffee to pretend she’s calm?’
But in the next second, Adeline spun around, holding a fresh cup of warm coffee, and without hesitation, splashed it straight onto Tanya.
The liquid hit Tanya’s chest and face with a wet thwack. Her breath caught in her throat before a high-pitched screech tore out of her.
The coffee wasn’t boiling hot, but the sudden warmth against her skin was shocking.
"You... how dare you splash coffee on me!? Are you insane!? I’ll take action against you!" Tanya cried, wiping her face while glaring daggers.
Adeline only tilted her head slightly, an amused smile touching her lips. "Now you know what it feels like."
Tanya sputtered. "I only did it because... "
Adeline cut her off sharply.
"Whatever your reason is, it doesn’t give you the right to throw warm coffee on someone. You could have talked to me peacefully. You could have confronted me properly. But you chose violence, so you should be prepared to receive it back."
The air around them tensed. Tanya’s hand twitched as she grabbed the edge of a nearby tray, clearly intending to throw something.
"You can try," Adeline said, voice smooth yet threatening. "But I will file a complaint the moment you do. And trust me, the police will not take your side."
Tanya froze mid-motion. For the first time since the confrontation began, she looked genuinely rattled.
She realized her carefully planned attempt to humiliate Adeline had completely unraveled.
She gritted her teeth, took out her phone, and began typing urgently.
Adeline arched an eyebrow.
"What are you doing? Are you trying to coordinate your little performance with your ex-boyfriend you hired? Are you going to stage a scene next?"
Tanya’s face twitched. She forced a scoff. "Don’t flatter yourself. I’m just contacting someone who can back me up."
But inside, her mind raced as she quickly rewrote the script she had planned. She needed to change the story before it slipped from her control.
After a few tense minutes, the bell above the café door jingled.
A man walked in.
He was tall with dirty blond hair, green eyes that gleamed beneath the café lights, and a build that drew subtle gasps from nearby students.
His presence was striking enough that people instinctively inhaled sharply, glancing between him and Tanya with sudden understanding.
No wonder Tanya looks this furious... If a man like that left her for someone else...
Meanwhile, Tanya stepped forward quickly. "Is this the woman who tried to seduce you?" she demanded, pointing at Adeline.
The man looked at Tanya with a confused frown, then gently took her hand.
"You misunderstood," he said earnestly. "I was flirted with by a woman named Adeline, yes... but not this girl. That woman had red hair, remember?"
Tanya’s expression faltered. "But... I saw her picture on your phone."
The man turned to her with an apologetic smile. "You saw it because I was reviewing her profile for my company. Nothing more."
A murmur rippled through the café. Tanya’s cheeks flushed a deep red as embarrassment settled over her like a thick fog.
She turned stiffly to Adeline, speechless.
Adeline just stood there, arms crossed, watching the entire performance with a cold detachment.
The man turned toward Adeline with a soft, apologetic smile tugging at his lips. He stepped closer, lowering his voice as if trying to appear considerate.
"I’m really sorry for my ex-girlfriend’s behavior," he said, his tone dripping with practiced charm. "There seems to be a misunderstanding, and I hope it didn’t ruin your morning."
Then he flashed her a smile, one that had probably worked on many others. "If you’d like, I can buy you a drink as an apology."
Adeline didn’t even blink. She lifted a hand dismissively.
"No, thank you. God knows what trick you’re planning." She shot him a cool glance that made him stiffen.
She turned back to Tanya. "Now, how are you planning to compensate me?"
Tanya looked at her with wide, offended eyes.
"Compensate you? After you splashed me with coffee? How can you expect compensation!?"
Adeline let out a short laugh. "That was retaliation for what you did. Now I want compensation for what you did unreasonably."
Tanya’s face twisted, the muscles in her jaw tightening as she prepared to unleash another argument.
But before she could speak, a woman from a nearby table muttered loud enough for everyone to hear:
"Honestly... we’ve run into a shameless person today."
Another voice chimed in. "Truly. If my ex-girlfriend acted like her, I’d question what cosmic sin I committed to deserve it."
A third nodded vigorously.
"She looks like she’s from a rich family, yet she threw accusations without evidence and tried to ruin an innocent woman’s reputation. Asking for compensation is the least she deserves."
The murmurs grew, creating a pressure Tanya couldn’t push back against. Her cheeks flushed red with humiliation.
Adeline simply raised an eyebrow at her, waiting.
Tanya clenched her teeth. She couldn’t scream here, not when the crowd was clearly against her.
She swallowed her pride. "Fine," she spat out. "How much do you want?"
Adeline glanced at her watch. "My monthly salary is fifty thousand dollars," she said calmly.
"You wasted one hour of my time. I only work two hours a day. You can calculate the amount."
A brief silence fell before Tanya’s eyes widened. She quickly did the math.
"Eight... eight hundred?" she whispered, disbelief thick in her voice.
Around them, several people almost choked. Eight hundred dollars... for one hour. For them, it was a month’s rent or more. But they couldn’t deny the logic.
Time wasted, clothes ruined, public embarrassment... Adeline’s demand made sense.
Tanya forced a tight smile. "Fine. I can pay eight hundred."
She pulled out her phone, but Adeline lifted a hand to stop her.
"There’s also the matter of my clothes," she said. "And compensation for emotional distress."
Tanya’s face twitched violently. "Just how much are you expecting?"
Adeline didn’t hesitate. "Three thousand. No less."
Tanya almost coughed up blood. "Three thousand!? Why should I pay that much? How ’emotionally damaged’ can you be?"
