[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 58: Ch : Victory Ceremony - Part 3
There was a deadly silence, and no one moved. Lady Sera’s honor had been tarnished, and she looked at Prince Kaiden to see if he was going to say anything or not.
But the crown prince’s eyes were plastered on Shuu’s bracelet and that delicate wrist.
Finally, Liam decided to take hold of the situation and remind everyone that they were standing out where others could see the drama as well.
"We should get back to dinner. Prince Kaiden, you should accompany Lady Sera inside. You were waiting to meet her for quite some time now, right? Please take this chance to be closer to her."
Prince Kaiden sighed and reached his hand out toward Sera. Her face finally turned normal as she took that offered arm.
Everyone else let out a sigh of relief as they watched the Crown Prince and his lady reunite.
"See, we were worried for nothing. In the end, he chose Lady Sera over his companion."
"So what if the artifact rejected Lady Sera? It could be because of the companion’s ’special’ constitution. We should not worry too much about our efforts going in vain."
People gossiped as they watched Prince Kaiden leading Lady Sera inside.
Shuu did not know if he should walk or wait, but Nero extended his hand toward Shuu to ease his worry.
"You can accompany me for now. If you have any questions, ask me as well. I promise I will stay by your side."
Nero promised Shuu, and he immediately felt the cold stare looking back at him. Prince Kaiden was warning his familiar to stay in his lane.
But since he neither gave a verbal order nor turned around, Nero ignored him and continued to reassure Shuu.
Shuu also felt a little lighthearted and placed his hand in Nero’s before he was tugged inside.
The huge table was set for the feast, and Prince Kaiden immediately led Lady Sera to the front. He was followed by Liam and Reina.
Nero and Shuu were about to follow, but the other retainers took their place before they could sit, leaving them no place but the end of the table.
Of course, this did not go unnoticed by anyone, but people just snickered at their misfortune. No one got up to offer them their rightful place.
The obvious insult did not go unnoticed by Prince Kaiden either, and he immediately narrowed his eyes.
"Which fool arranged for this seating arrangement? Did they not know that my companion and familiar are supposed to sit close to me? They need to be retrained..."
"B-But I am the one who arranged these seats. I just... wanted to be close to you and my family. Did I make a mistake?"
Lady Sera asked, and the dining table went quiet.
No one was naive enough not to know why Lady Sera had done this, but they wanted to see how Prince Kaiden would react to this news.
"Sera... I know you meant well, but there are customs that you need to follow. You cannot be so absentminded as the future queen."
There was pin-drop silence as Prince Kaiden reprimanded her for the second time that day. This had never happened before, no matter how much trouble she had caused.
Prince Kaiden’s words caused Sera’s lips to tremble, and she almost let out a sob before she stopped herself.
"I... will be careful..."
Her voice sounded heavy as she spoke these words aloud. The people sitting around her felt confused and quickly stood up.
"Your familiar and companion can take this seat. We can shift-"
"B-But..."
Sera looked torn, but Prince Kaiden did not tell them that it was fine for them to do as they wished. He kept looking at Shuu and Nero, who stood frozen as well.
Everyone was glaring at them, and Shuu was feeling more and more uncomfortable. He could tell that he was already hated here, and he did not want to be hated even more by these people.
So he made a decision.
"It is fine. I will sit at the end with Nero. There is no need to cause trouble because of my presence."
He told everyone before he dragged Nero to the end of the table and sat down. There was quite a lot of space between him and the others, but Shuu preferred things to be this way.
Besides, he was sure that others would be uncomfortable with his presence as well.
"S-See, things cleared themselves out. In the end, Lady Sera’s arrangement turned out to be for the better."
Liam tried to calm down the situation in Sera’s favor, but the damage had already been done and the mood had been ruined.
Sera realized that she was losing her standing and decided to turn the conversation toward Prince Kaiden.
"A-Anyway, about the journey... Can you tell us more about it? How did you overcome your troubles? What trials have you faced and such? I am excited to know more about the time we were apart. I even tried to meet you, but it seemed as if you were already gone..."
Prince Kaiden looked at Sera, and his expression softened a little bit.
"Hmm, are you talking about the sanctuary? I did receive a notice that you were visiting after I was gone. Unfortunately, Shuu was not in good condition for us to travel back and meet you, so I decided to keep going forward."
There was silence around the table once more as everyone registered what Prince Kaiden had said.
He had... rejected Lady Sera’s attention in favor of his companion. Even if it had been unconscious, it was clear that his companion had some sway over his moods and actions.
"I... I see. That is understandable."
Lady Sera spoke with a smile on her face, but inside she was fuming and ready to kill someone. Unfortunately, Shuu was too heavily guarded by Prince Kaiden’s familiar for her to make her move at the moment.
She would need to find a way to get him out of the picture and then deal with Shuu so that she would not have to see his face ever again.
