Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 541 - 463 Second Update
A beam of strong light shone over, Yi Luowa squinted against the dazzling brightness and quickly bowed her head.
"Knock, knock..." The car window rattled loudly as someone knocked on it.
Yi Luowa turned her head to look, and as soon as she saw who it was, she almost fainted out of shock.
"Tong Airui, are you trying to scare me to death?!"
"And who’s shocking who here? I open my eyes, and you’re gone!" Tong Airui grumbled, pulling open the car door. "Get out and sit in the back. I’ll drive."
"I’m not getting out. You go sit in the back."
"Be reasonable. Night driving isn’t easy."
Yi Luowa pouted, reaching her hand to nudge Tong Aino. "You go sit in the back and let your brother sit here to keep an eye on the road."
Tong Aino glanced at his brother, sighed reluctantly, and got out of the car.
Yi Luowa flashed a wink at Tong Airui. "Come on, get in. I promise nothing will happen. Even Mom says I drive more steadily than anyone in the family."
Tong Airui hesitated for a moment before walking around the car and getting in.
Meanwhile, Tong Aino made a point to walk around the car to sit on Mom’s side, but Tong Yao locked her door with a casual lift of her hand.
Tong Aino pressed his lips together, turned back, opened the other door, and sat down next to Connie.
"Such a fuss, wasting time!" Yi Luowa shot him a glance, restarted the engine, and drove the car back onto the road.
"Son, your dad doesn’t know I sneaked out, does he?" Tong Yao leaned over to look at her son.
Tong Airui glanced at his mom. "What do you think? If he wasn’t worried about us kids, he wouldn’t have come along."
"Your mom and I left very discreetly..."
"You still dare to talk about it!" Tong Airui chided, pinching her cheek. "From home to the airport, such a long way, and you didn’t think to bring more people? What if something happened!"
"Mom, let them see what we’re carrying!" Yi Luowa giggled.
Tong Yao smiled and pointed to a few seats. "There’s a mini arsenal under these seats. Your mom and I brought plenty of weapons. Anyone who dares to mess with us will regret it!"
Tong Airui’s mouth twitched. "Mom, how many years has it been since you last fired a gun? And Yi Luowa, she can’t even land a bullseye to save her life. The two of you don’t need anyone else to challenge you, do you?"
"Don’t underestimate me! I’ve been scoring tens on my targets recently," Yi Luowa protested, pursing her lips in dissatisfaction.
"Don’t get too cocky yet. You’d better start thinking about how to explain this to Dad when we get back! Sneaking Mom out in the middle of the night, do you know how bold that is!"
Connie, seated nervously between her mother-in-law and husband, fidgeted with her fingers. "Sister-in-law, it’s all my fault. If Dad yells when we get home, let him yell at me."
"It’s not like you snuck Mom out. This has nothing to do with you. You must be exhausted, so once we’re back, you should go rest."
"If only I hadn’t lost my temper..." Connie said, hugging Tong Yao’s arm guiltily. "Mom, my mom isn’t actually sick. I got angry and just wanted to calm down... Later, when I realized it wasn’t right, I made up an excuse to come back..."
"Mom knows you’re a considerate and good child. It’s good that you came back. But you and Aino shouldn’t let your parents know about your arguments. They’re far away, and knowing would only make them worry unnecessarily."
"And you’re close by, so you get a front-row seat!" Tong Airui snorted coldly. "Tong Aino, you’re not a kid anymore. How many more times are you planning to pull stunts like this? If you keep this up, you’ll end up fine, but Mom and Dad won’t. You have a peaceful life, yet you insist on throwing it away—what’s the deal!"
Tong Aino lowered his eyes, too intimidated to speak.
"From now on, handle your own issues, and stop dragging the rest of the family into it!"
Seeing Tong Airui getting angrier and angrier, Yi Luowa secretly pinched the hand he had resting on her thigh.
Tong Airui shot her a glance. "Pinch me all you want; I’m still going to say it! I don’t see Connie as my sister-in-law—I see her as my little sister. It’s normal for a big brother to lecture his younger siblings. Connie is so understanding; she’ll get where I’m coming from."
"Big brother, I know everything you’re doing is for our own good. Today’s matter was truly my fault," Connie said softly, bowing her head. "I won’t make the same mistake again."
Tong Airui raised an eyebrow slightly. "I’ll be fair: this incident is mostly Tong Aino’s fault. You bear some responsibility, but less so. If there’s an issue, discuss it calmly. When you communicate, use some tact..."
"Ahem..." Yi Luowa fake-coughed. Was this man planning to lecture Connie for the entire trip?
Tong Airui leaned in close. "Is your throat uncomfortable?"
Leaning over to shield her from the others’ view, he started misbehaving with his hand on her thigh.
Yi Luowa quickly slapped his hand away. "I’m driving!"
Tong Airui whispered something in her ear.
Yi Luowa’s face instantly flushed bright red, even to the tips of her ears. "Mom, your son isn’t letting me focus on driving."
Tong Yao reached out and pushed her son’s face away. "Seriously! Not a single one of you gives me peace of mind."
Tong Airui chuckled and sat back in his seat.
Tong Aino furrowed his brow a little. In truth, he thought, the only one in this family who was truly a source of worry for Mom was himself.
Sigh! Looks like I really need to work on my temper, he thought to himself. Stealing a glance at Connie, who seemed quite upset, he subtly moved his hand closer to hers.
Connie, oblivious to his intentions, felt an itch on her face and raised her hand to scratch it.
Thinking she was avoiding his hand, Tong Aino’s face darkened slightly. Just as he was about to pull his hand back, Connie’s hand came to rest on his.
Small hand covering big hand, both froze for a moment.
As Connie hesitated whether to pull her hand away, Tong Aino flipped his hand over and clasped hers firmly.
Tong Yao glanced at their tightly intertwined hands, turned to gaze out the window, and a smile slowly spread across her face.
They’re fine now, she thought, but once they got home, Long Che flared up immediately. As soon as his wife and children stepped inside, he bellowed, "From now on, solve your own problems! If anyone drags your mother into this again, don’t blame me for being harsh!"
Connie was the first to step forward. "Dad, I’m sorry! I promise this won’t happen again."
"Dad, it’s all my fault..." Tong Aino stepped forward too. At this moment, he couldn’t bear to let his wife take the blame alone.
"Of course, it’s your fault! If you treated Connie better, would she have left?" Long Che cut him off coldly, grabbed Tong Yao’s hand, and said, "Go upstairs and get some sleep!"
Tong Yao pouted but followed Long Che upstairs. She turned back to see the kids still standing there, waving them off. "It’s late, go get some rest. Whatever needs sorting out, do it tomorrow."
Yi Luowa blinked and mouthed, "You two go ahead first."
Once Dad and Mom were upstairs, Tong Aino turned to Connie. "Honey, let’s go upstairs too."
Connie bit her lip, worry evident in her voice. "Do you think Dad will scold Mom?"
"He won’t. That was just his way of showing he cares about Mom..." Tong Aino trailed off mid-sentence.
Tong Airui raised an eyebrow at him. "Why’d you stop talking?"
"What’s the point of continuing?" Tong Aino grumbled, grabbing Connie’s hand. "Connie, while my brother and sister-in-law are still around, let me promise you this: From now on, I’ll cherish you just like Dad and my brother cherish their wives. If I ever fail to do so, you can find them, and they’ll have every right to beat me up or scold me."
Connie pursed her lips tightly. "This wasn’t entirely your fault. When I get stubborn, I lose all sense of reason. Luckily, I came to my senses on the plane; otherwise, both our families would’ve been worried sick."
Yi Luowa glanced at the two of them, then quietly pulled Tong Airui upstairs by the hand. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"They’re finally reconciled. I was just worried they’d stretch things out too long..."
Before Yi Luowa could finish her sentence, Tong Airui leaned down and captured her lips.
