Chapter 540: Chapter 462 First Update

Tong Yao’s face immediately darkened. "Tong Aino, what the hell is going on between you and Connie? How does a honeymoon end with someone disappearing?"

"I’ve been through all the major events in life; now I just want to start living for myself..."

"Smack!" Long Che raised his hand and slapped him.

Tong Aino winced in pain.

"Speak properly! Stop making your mom worry!"

Tong Aino rubbed his head. "Connie went back to Laman. I didn’t want to go, so I came back myself."

Tong Yao angrily slammed the chopsticks onto the table. "What kind of nonsense is this? The honeymoon just ended, and now you’re going your separate ways?"

"Mom, you don’t understand. Connie’s been so nitpicky lately, every single day... I can’t talk about this in front of everyone. I’ll tell you privately later." Tong Aino accepted the bowl and chopsticks handed to him by the servant and devoured the food like someone who hadn’t eaten in ages.

Tong Yao saw how hungry he was and didn’t have the heart to take his bowl away.

Tong Aino looked around and noticed everyone staring at him. "The food at home is so delicious. Why aren’t you all eating?"

"Looking at you ruins my appetite! Hurry up and eat, then get lost!" Long Che turned his face away in disdain.

Tong Aino shoveled down a couple more bites, finished his bowl, and set down his chopsticks. He stood up. "I’m done. Now you can eat."

Tong Yao sighed, got up, and followed her son outside. "Go to the study."

Tong Aino hesitated for a moment, glanced back at his mother, and marched into the study with large strides.

After entering the study, Tong Yao closed the door behind her and spoke with clear annoyance, "Alright, spill. What’s going on?"

"Mom, Connie’s nagging is absolutely unbearable. Every time you touch her, she says no, and then she starts explaining a whole litany of reasons. She sucks the mood right out of the room! We’ve been on the honeymoon for almost a month, haven’t we? In that month, she let me touch her five times. I mean, seriously—what the hell kind of honeymoon is this? Monastic training?"

Tong Yao swatted him. "Are you itching for a beating?"

"Mom, why are you hitting me? And since when do you start swearing?" Tong Aino rubbed his arm, looking aggrieved.

"Connie’s not at fault at all! The doctor told her that if you want kids, you can’t be too frequent."

"My brother sure wasn’t living like a monk, and now he’s a dad. Mom, do you think there’s something wrong with Connie’s health? She’s been trying for so long but still hasn’t gotten pregnant."

Tong Yao pinched him. "There’s nothing wrong with Connie; maybe you should see a doctor instead."

"I’m fit as a fiddle! Nothing’s wrong with me."

"This has nothing to do with being fit." Tong Yao pressed her temple. "First, go get Connie back, then head over to Kaikai and have him arrange a proper checkup for you."

"I’m not fetching her. She can come back if she wants! I won’t cater to her whims anymore."

"If you don’t cherish your own wife, who will?"

"I’m not going!"

Just as Tong Aino was sulking, Connie called. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Tong Aino looked at the flashing number on his phone, pursed his lips, and handed the phone to his mom. "Tell her I’m sick."

Tong Yao shot him a glare and answered the call.

"Tong Aino, it’s stormy weather here in Laman; the plane can’t land."

Tong Yao smiled and replied, "Connie, it’s mom speaking. If the plane can’t land there, you should come back to Xiawu. The weather’s fine here."

"Mom, it’s not that I don’t want to return to Xiawu. It’s just that my mom hasn’t been feeling well these days. I want to check on her first and then come back."

"Connie, what’s wrong with your mom?"

"Mom, don’t believe her! Her mom’s perfectly fine."

"Shut up! Listen, Tong Aino, if you think bullying Connie is easy, you’re wrong. If you keep this up, you won’t get past me. Tonight, you’re going to kneel in the bamboo garden. You can get up when Connie comes back."

"Mom—Am I still your actual son?"

"Mom, my fifth brother hasn’t bullied me."

Hearing that tone from her daughter-in-law, Tong Yao knew she had an opening!

"Don’t defend him! If I don’t discipline him, he’ll start acting like he’s above everyone else. Connie, the skies over Laman refusing to clear is just fate. You should come back soon and spare me the worry."

Connie hesitated for a moment. "Okay, I’ll come back. Mom, can you promise one thing—don’t make Tong Aino kneel in the bamboo garden?"

Tong Yao furrowed her brows slightly. "Fine! I’m only agreeing because of you."

Connie’s flight wasn’t landing until midnight, yet Tong Aino was forced to arrive early at the airport by his mom.

Connie glanced at him but said nothing as she climbed into the car.

Tong Aino held back for a while before finally opening his mouth. "If you’re going to keep that sour face the whole time, don’t bother coming home."

"Oh, so you’re wishing I wouldn’t come back?"

"At least you’re self-aware! Watching you lie around all day, hog my bed, breathing air that’s exclusively mine—make no mistake, I’m thoroughly annoyed!"

"You think I’m happy sharing oxygen with you?" Connie shot him a vicious glare. "Once the situation clears up on Laman’s end, I’m leaving again. Spare you the eyesore. Honestly, looking at you makes me uncomfortable too!"

Tong Aino let out a cold snort. "Women just can’t be spoiled! I indulge you, and you resist everything I say. You won’t even hold your tongue. What’s the problem—if you say less, will the heavens not bless you with an extra ten pounds?"

"You think it’s you spoiling me or me spoiling you? Take a good look at yourself! In all the time we’ve been together, has there been a single thing I’ve had my way on?"

"There has! Ever since we got married, I haven’t been able to spend money enjoyably!"

"Having money doesn’t mean you can waste it recklessly! That’s what I call being a spendthrift!"

"Yun Jin, stop the car!" Tong Aino shouted angrily.

Yun Jin slowed the car but didn’t stop completely. Looking through the rearview mirror at the furious Tong Aino, he shook his head helplessly. "Say less, Fifth Master."

"Why should I keep quiet? For the past two years, I’ve indulged her to the point of turning her into this! If I don’t call her out now, she’ll walk all over me."

Connie turned her face away, tears streaming steadily down her cheeks.

"Stop the car!" Tong Aino barked again.

"Fifth Master..." Yun Jin hesitated but finally pulled the car over.

Ton Airui reached over and opened the door on Connie’s side. "Get out!"

Without a second thought, Connie stepped out.

"Honk honk..." As soon as she landed on the ground, a black SUV across from her started honking repeatedly.

Connie sniffled and looked up.

Yun Jin glanced at the black SUV, his lips twitching slightly. "Fifth Master, it’s Fourth Master’s car."

Tong Aino froze. "What’s he doing here in the middle of the night? Doesn’t he sleep?"

"You’re the one who needs professional help!" Yun Jin snapped at him. "Laman never had storms to begin with; Princess Connie willingly came back, and you’re still making things difficult for her. Can’t you just get along?"

Tong Aino cracked his knuckles, turned his head toward the black SUV, and saw Yi Luowa jump out of the driver’s seat. He let out a big sigh of relief—it wasn’t his brother!

Yi Luowa circled the car hood, walked to the other side, and opened the door.

Tong Aino’s eyes widened. The person who stepped out wasn’t his brother, but someone far more intimidating—his mom!

When Connie saw her mother-in-law and sister-in-law approaching, her eyes reddened, and she went up to them. "Mom, Sis-in-law, why did you both come out here so late?"

"How could we not come? I knew he’d bully you!" Tong Yao waved her hand toward her son’s car.

Tong Aino begrudgingly climbed out of his car and shuffled toward his mom.

Tong Yao grabbed him by the ear. "Did you forget everything I told you at home? Do you even have a conscience? Is this how you treat people? You went so far as to kick Connie out of the car! Tonight, you’re walking home from the airport. I dare anyone to even give you a ride!"

Yi Luowa noticed her mother-in-law was genuinely angry and quickly smoothed things over. "Mom, if he walks home, it’ll be dawn before he gets there. We’d be better off sending him to the bamboo garden to kneel."

Tong Yao tugged at her son’s ear hard. "Get in your sister-in-law’s car. We’re going home."

Connie pursed her lips and helped her sister-in-law get their mother-in-law into the car.

Tong Aino hesitated for a moment, then chased after them. "Mom, why are you and my sister-in-law out so late?"

"Because of raising a son like you!" Tong Yao scoffed. "Good thing your brother didn’t come; he’d have beaten you until you couldn’t get up. Just look at yourself—how old are you that you’re still making life difficult for everyone at home?"

Yi Luowa shot a sidelong glance at him. "You won’t get off lightly when you get back."

Tong Aino’s mouth twitched as he poked his head outside and looked at the cars he’d brought earlier. Why did his mom and sister-in-law come without anyone else?

"Mom, did you and my sister-in-law sneak out?"

"Everyone at home is asleep. What did you expect—should we have announced our departure with gongs and drums?" Tong Yao glared at him.

"Mom—what if something happens? I couldn’t possibly survive it!"

"Now you’re afraid? Hopefully this stops you from arguing with Connie in the future!"

Yi Luowa smiled and started the engine.

"Black D8888 up ahead, pull over for inspection! Black D8888 up ahead, pull over for inspection!"

Yi Luowa froze, looking toward the source of the voice. Who had the audacity to inspect Tong Airui’s car?
