Billionaire Legacy: I Became Overpowered With My Spending System-Chapter 101 - Time For Retribution!
Chapter 101: Chapter 101 - Time For Retribution!
Ethan, Robert, and Thomas walked at the very front of the group, chatting excitedly about the duel and their expectations.
Grant followed behind them with a massive grin plastered on his face as he pulled Layla to walk alongside him.
Logan stood confused at the back before turning to glance at Livia.
She met his eyes and walked beside him, a teasing grin on her face.
"You have some good friends," she said teasingly. "They even left us some space..."
"What can I say?" Logan said, smirking. "They are very supportive."
Livia raised an eyebrow behind her veil, her smile sweetening.
"Supportive of what exactly?" she said, putting a finger to her lip.
Logan let out a soft chuckle, looking ahead.
"They are very supportive of my duel, of course," he said innocently.
Tilting her head, Livia moved even closer to him.
"Mmhm, right. The duel," she said softly, clearly unconvinced.
Silence fell between them as Logan stared ahead. freewёbnoνel.com
Livia’s tone changed, stopping her teasing as she also looked ahead.
"You aren’t going to hold back, are you?" she asked, her voice losing its playfulness.
A wider grin spread on Logan’s face."No. I won’t."
"Good," Livia said with a nod, falling silent.
Eventually, Logan had to go into a different corridor to reach the preparation area, while the others had to go to the viewing stands.
"I wish you the best of luck," Robert said, fist bumping Logan.
"You’ve got this," Ethan smiled, raising his thumb.
"Don’t worry, everyone," Logan said with a confident grin. "If he shows up, he’s going down."
"That’s the spirit!" Grant practically shouted, firmly patting him on his back.
Layla and Thomas also wished him luck, though much quieter than the others.
After they all left towards the viewing stands, only Livia was left behind.
Moving closer to him, she leaned towards his ear.
"I’ve got a little surprise for you after you win," she whispered in his ear, then turned away.
Raising an eyebrow, Logan stared at her back as she walked towards the viewing stands, unable to say anything.
’I guess I got one more reason to win this now,’ he thought.
He shook his head, his face turning serious as he also turned around.
’There’s an hour left,’ he thought, glancing at his watch as he took a different corridor towards the preparation area.
After scanning his student ID at the reception, he was led into a luxurious room filled with high-tech relaxation equipment.
Grabbing a cup of warm coffee, he sat down on a super comfy couch.
As he sat there, the events inside the dungeon replayed through his mind. Each time he’d felt pain, each time he’d been close to death, even the times where he feared for Livia’s life.
At the end of it all, he saw Derek’s face, grinning wide after throwing that bait liquid at them.
’Please show up,’ he thought, almost praying.
Time passed slowly, each minute he had to wait more excruciating than the last.
Then, he finally heard a bell ring.
[Contestant, Logan Mercer, get ready,] a mechanical voice echoed through the room. [Five minutes remaining.]
Logan stood up, picking his glaive up from the ground."Finally," he muttered, his expression serious.
Walking through a small corridor, he reached a separate checkpoint.
[Logan Mercer, verified,] the mechanical voice echoed again.
A staff member from the university walked through a door behind the checkpoint, carrying a stack of papers and a familiar protection badge.
"Before you enter, know that the protection devices don’t guarantee survival. There is still a risk of death during the duel," the staff member explained.
"If you still wish to proceed, sign this agreement here."
Logan gave a small nod, signing the agreement without hesitation.
"Alright," the staff member said, pulling the papers back. "This is your protection device."
"And I wish you the best of luck, contestant."
Smiling, Logan picked up the protection badge and pinned it to his clothes.
"Thank you," he said, before continuing towards the arena.
As he stared ahead, the distant murmurs and laughter of students echoed through the narrow corridor.
’Seems like Derek is here after all,’ he thought, gripping his glaive tightly. ’They would’ve never needed me to sign the papers otherwise.’
A large digital sign hung before the entrance, showing a minute cooldown.
Letting out one final breath, Logan opened his eyes as he stepped out onto the arena after the cooldown passed.
Cheers erupted from the stands as he stepped into the arena—full of people he didn’t know or had never even seen before. Not a single seat was left empty.
’This is what I always dreamed of,’ Logan thought, remembering how he used to press his face against the glass of the TV store near his old apartment.
His heart beat fast as he looked opposite of him.
Derek walked out, spear in hand, waving confidently to the crowd with a large smile plastered on his face.
A weird smile appeared on his face as he locked eyes with Logan.
Derek’s eyes narrowed when he saw Logan—just for a second—but his smile never faded.
[Both students walk to the designated spot,] a mechanical voice echoed over the field.
Walking to the red dot on the field, his surroundings slowly started changing.
The ground shook as one of the jurors used his earth element to turn the soil beneath them into a cracked, rocky terrain.
’Not bad,’ Logan thought, kicking at the ground to test its firmness.
As the jury finished up, he signaled something to the other jurors.
[Contestants,] the mechanical voice echoed through the field and stands.
Slowly all the noise from the students in the stands quieted down, everyone staring at the field filled with expectations.
[Get ready,] the mechanical voice said. [10, 9, 8...]
Logan gripped his glaive tightly, activating the basic version of his Flaming Body technique.
[...3, 2, 1,] the mechanical voice paused. [Go!]
He shot forward without hesitation, his speed surpassing even the heights he’d reached during the dungeon raid.
