Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 321: Family (2)
Chapter 321: Family (2)
Selene walked around the home, which was decorated by servants who had left days before they arrived, so Selene’s family would not be seen.
Selene stopped to look at a portrait she had done with Xavier weeks before, so they could have something to remember this time.
"Agnes, how much do you think the world could change?" Selene asked, curious about the future.
"I do not know. Maybe there will be no need for a king or a queen. Maybe no more humans will be in town, or there will be fewer vampires walking around. I am looking forward to seeing what changes there will be," Agnes replied.
Selene walked away from the portrait to see the rest of the house. "I am looking forward to it as well. The tension between humans and vampires is getting better thanks to the king. I was worried at first, but Michael is a good king."
"He is a good king since he doesn’t send for Lord Blackthorn to go to the palace, and I have heard that the queen is lovely. Is it true that the palace isn’t taking her arrival well still because she is a mixed-blood?" Agnes asked, hoping it wasn’t so.
"That is what Xavier has told me, but the fact that the queen is not a pureblood has made mixed-bloods feel better, and she has been working hard to help the humans and vampires coexist again. The court will never be happy," Selene concluded.
From what Selene heard from Xavier, it seemed that the court would prefer a king who ruined the kingdom.
"How long will it take before he arrives with my family?" Selene asked, quickly growing bored.
"They should arrive soon if Lord Blackthorn flew to where they are waiting like he said they would," Lucas answered.
"Should I get you some blood?" Agnes asked, trying to think of when last Selene had a glass.
The stories of women carrying a child from families like the Blackthorns, always needing blood, made Agnes panic even more.
There had been many times when Selene looked weak, even when she had not long ago drunk blood. Orlork added to Agnes’ worries when he spoke of the child being strong, so Selene would need to double the blood she consumed.
"I do not need any blood, but I might need to send you with Isaac so he might calm you down. I am fine," Selene said, speaking to both Lucas and Agnes.
Lucas had his moments of being overbearing.
Selene had overheard Lucas’s comment about her carrying his next employer. Everyone was crowding around her, and even Josephine had thought of moving back onto the estate when she noticed the change in Selene.
Orlork wished to stay on the estate as well, but he was busy keeping the Blackthorns distracted with other things.
Selene mostly worried about the time the Blackthorns would learn she was pregnant with her first child and try to come around to see if the child would be like Xavier.
In this crazy, dangerous world, it was best to have some kind of power, so Selene hoped the child would inherit Xavier’s talents, but not show them to catch the interest of the Blackthorns.
"Did you hear that?" Selene asked, turning around in the direction of the door. "I think someone has arrived. It must be my family," she said, lifting the sides of her dress so she could run better.
Selene ignored Agnes’s gasp behind her as she hurried over to the front door to see Xavier and her family arriving. She was right that it was her family coming.
"Selene!" Seraphina called out, getting down from the horse she rode.
Thomas grabbed the reins of the horse before it could wander off. He wanted to go up to Selene right away, but he needed to tie the horses first.
Zephyr handed the reins of his horse to Thomas so he could greet Selene. Upon taking a closer look at Selene, Zephyr noticed something quite important.
Xavier landed not too far from where Seraphina hugged Selene. He looked away from Selene and her mother for a moment, locking eyes with Zephyr.
Xavier didn’t back down and continued to stare at Zephyr.
Zephyr was the first one to look away, only because he was more interested in Selene. There was good news to be shared, but rather than point it out, he left it for Selene to be the one to announce it.
"You have gotten even taller," Zephyr said when it came time for him to have his hug.
"I do not think that is possible. Maybe you are shrinking," Selene joked.
"Perhaps I am. There is much work to be done for the Everharts. I hope that you have been well. Do the Blackthorns trouble you or anyone else?" Zephyr asked. He could make a quick trip to kill anyone bothering her.
Lucas left Selene’s side to take over tying the horses, while Agnes placed a parasol above Selene’s head to protect her from the sun.
"The Blackthorns don’t get close enough to bother me, and no one else troubles me. Our time in town continues to be well. So well that we have decided to add another to our family," Selene revealed just as her father came closer.
It was exciting each time to share the news with the people she cared for. With Josephine, Orlork, and Francesca, who was also adding to her family. Now it was her parents’ turn, and their expressions did not disappoint.
"How did I miss it? Oh, I hugged you," Seraphina said, regretting how tightly she hugged Selene. "Did I hurt you?"
"No, you did not. I have missed you," Selene said, hugging her father as it was finally his turn to greet her.
"How long have you known?" Seraphina asked. She had a list of things she wanted to prepare for Selene. Gifts which would remind Selene of what she had in her childhood.
"For a few weeks now. I am still a pureblood vampire, so I cannot be hurt so easily. The only challenge I face now is having enough blood at my side for when I feel like I cannot stand. Orlork has scared me with stories," said Selene.
"Then what are you doing outside? Your mother was just complaining about the sun, so it must be far worse for you. You should go inside while I get our things," Thomas said, looking up at the sky.
If Thomas could reach the sky, he would take the sun and replace it with the moon right now.
"I am going," Selene said, but first she had to speak to Xavier. "Welcome home," she said, giving him a well-deserved kiss on his cheek. She would give a proper kiss when her grandfather wasn’t staring at Xavier so intently.
Xavier had been busy since the moment they arrived, and then he had to set off to find her family. He was well deserving of being spoiled during the time they would be here.
