Chapter 254: Pissed Off Xiu

When Aegon returned to the mansion, he found it lit up with all kinds of mystical lamps and lighting, creating a beautiful view that matched well with the backdrop of the Twilight sky.

As they stepped inside the main gate, a wave of Starflies greeted them with a soft burst of wind. The beautiful, harmless insects drifted in the air, blinking in captivating colours like soft gold, pale blue, or a silver-white glow.

In fact, they surrounded the whole mansion, drifting peacefully while spreading happiness everywhere.

"She really was prepared," Aegon chuckled. "Even after sixteen years of birthday parties, she still has something unique in store for celebrations."

"These beings suit the atmosphere of Lotus Palace well," Kai commented as he raised his hand and a cluster of Starflies came to sit on it. "Perhaps this man should add them too."

"You can," Aegon said as they went around the main building to enter the back courtyard. "They’ll help the students too."

Kai hummed and began looking around at the decorations Xiu had done. She had really gone overboard and decorated the whole mansion in such a beautiful way that even Kai was impressed. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

’Way to go, Xiu.’

When he arrived in the back courtyard, he found Xiu ordering the maids around, many of whom Aegon recognised from their mansion in Moonrise Kingdom.

More than that, the whole courtyard felt as if it had come alive. Xiu had used all kinds of rare materials, even going as far as using Skyworms in lanterns to have a soft warm glow everywhere.

On the eastern side, a long set of tables was arranged and all of them were filled with otherworldly dishes which he was sure Xiu had prepared herself.

’This woman!’ Aegon went towards her and hugged her from behind. "Why do you always push so hard?"

Xiu just smiled and patted his hand, "My son accomplished something so great. Can’t I even throw a big party like this?"

"You say this every year on my birthday," Aegon pointed out.

"So what? It needs a grand celebration," Xiu retorted. "Besides, I had more plans but you created it so early so all of them are wasted."

"You planned more?" Aegon was surprised, but then again, he should stop being surprised with Xiu. "Seriously, this is already over the top. Actually, never mind. It’s not. It’s perfect."

"I know, right?" Xiu grinned widely. "And even those ideas aren’t completely wasted, I can use them on your next birthday."

Aegon just smiled and let her be. If she found happiness in throwing grand parties for his birthday, then what was the problem with that? It wasn’t like they lacked anything.

He turned around, only to find Kai inspecting the lanterns with a curious expression on his face.

A little confused, Aegon asked, "What happened?"

"How bizarre is this world," Kai replied. "Usually, a being does everything in their power to escape imprisonment. But the Skyworms find solace in it."

"Are you sure about that?" Xiu asked. "I mean, the one who gave them to me also said the same thing but I thought he was just bluffing."

"A Soul Cultivator can invade others’ souls and see their true being," Aegon replied on Kai’s behalf. "With humans it’s tough since our souls are strong and we have consciousness and intelligence. But Skyworms are different."

"The man does not misuse his powers," Kai said, caressing the lanterns. "It is easy to sense their feelings by touching their souls. There is no need to invade."

"I still need to learn that," Aegon said before moving between the two of them and adding, "I’m sure you already know each other, but I’ll do the introductions."

He pointed at Kai and said, "He’s Kai, my teacher who basically shaped my Soul Cultivation and taught me everything. He’s the reason I managed to accomplish so much."

"You jest, my goodman," Kai bowed slightly. "Greetings. The man was suddenly invited so there was no time for gifts."

Aegon moved towards Xiu and said, "And she is Chen Xiu, my mother. She’s basically the reason I’m standing here today."

"Hello! Thanks for everything you’ve done for Little Sun," Xiu smiled and said. "I’m really grateful for it. And there’s no need for gifts. Your presence alone is enough."

"Others are still taking their time, huh," Aegon said.

Just as Xiu was about to say something, her brows creased as she turned to face the direction of the main gate. She muttered, "Bugs will always come to ruin everything."

That instantly got Aegon’s attention as he asked, "What happened?"

"Stay here," Xiu said in a low voice. "Let me deal with this."

"Nope! I’m coming with you," Aegon said, narrowing his eyes. "Who came here to cause trouble? Who’s got such guts?"

"Some idiots," Xiu scoffed. "I didn’t want them to ruin your night, but I guess you can come and watch the show."

"Can this man be of any help?" Kai asked, sensing the building tension.

"You’re our guest, Kai, so please be at ease and just enjoy the drama," Xiu waved her hand and moved forward, grinning from ear to ear. "I’m more than enough for these burdens on the world."

’She looks pissed,’ Aegon glanced at her as they went back towards the entrance. ’Really pissed. Who the hell did this? Who invited their death today of all days?’

Still, he was a bit worried so he glanced at his shadow and asked, ’How about it? Can you call others for quick backup?’

[Everyone is ready to fight at your call at any moment, Boss. But I don’t think you should worry. Chief is enough for the intruders. Though if it really comes to a battle, I’ll help her. We’re more than enough for those people.]

’You already sensed them, huh. What are the chances of a fight breaking out?’

[Depends. But I would say quite high considering it’s Chief on our side.]

Aegon nodded, as he took a deep breath and increased his speed. He wanted to see who actually dared to make his Xiu angry.

Just as he reached the gates, he found seven people floating in the air with their hands behind their backs. They carried an air of arrogance around them, as if the world was beneath them.

’Who the hell are these guys?’

He didn’t even recognise them.
