Chapter 255: Marvin Songsword

Aegon was seriously confused by the situation since he didn’t recognise the people at all. It made him wonder if they were Xiu’s past enemies, but he dismissed that thought.

Xiu wasn’t the type of person to leave enemies behind.

’So, who are they?’

The two of them stopped before the closed giant gates and stared at the group of seven floating outside. Even now, they continued to look down in disdain.

But Aegon noticed one more emotion swirling in their eyes.

Anger. Pure anger.

’Now things are getting interesting.’

He planned to speak, but decided otherwise. This was a stage for powerhouses so it was better to let Xiu do the work. He was there as support.

He did begin observing the seven people though. Four of them were elderly people in their eighties, with grey hair tied behind their backs. Two of them were women while the other two were older men.

The other three were in their forties for sure, but—

"I don’t remember inviting you all!" Xiu said, even before they could say anything. "Actually, forget it. You have a habit of eating others’ things anyway."

"Chen Xiu! Mind your language!" the old lady shouted. "Is this how your parents taught you to speak to your elders?"

Xiu tilted her head slightly before smirking, "Actually, they did teach me a lot of things."

With that, she grabbed Aegon’s hand and jumped, easily going higher than even the main gate and the group of seven. Then, she stopped as they hovered in mid-air.

"Now it’s better," Xiu smiled. "My parents taught me to never look up at dogs."

"You!!!"

"Enough!" the old man at their centre shouted in his stern voice. "We do not argue like fools and hooligans, Aveline."

The old woman, Aveline, gritted her teeth in anger but still backed away after bowing her head.

The old man nodded in satisfaction and turned his focus back to Xiu. "You still have that attitude even though you’re all grown up. I expected more from a child of Augustus."

"Is this why you’re here?" Xiu raised an eyebrow. "To criticise others’ parenting after failing as parents yourselves?"

"Xiu! You do not talk to my father like that!" The man with slim and elegant features pointed his finger at her. "He’s a great parent and gave this Empire people like me."

"I can play this game all night, Reinar," Xiu shook her head and said. "But I’m busy. So just tell me why you’re all here and get the fuck off. Your face is making me want to puke."

Reinar was going to retort but his father stopped him. Waving his hand at him, his father spoke, "We came to meet our grandson, of course."

That was it. Xiu had hoped they would say something else but they really were here for this matter. She was already angry about what they were about to do after hearing about Aegon’s achievement in the Supremacy Games, and now they were even here.

Her brows flared up in rage as she almost summoned a thunderstorm to smite them all to death but a strong hand on her shoulder stopped her.

She turned slightly as Aegon patted her shoulder and said, "Are they Senior’s family members?"

Seeing his smiling face, Xiu relaxed and smiled as well. She actually liked that he held her back since killing the Songsword Family wouldn’t have been an easy task and the aftermath would be even messier. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Of course, she was ready to deal with all of that if they continued to persist in their motives.

She took a deep breath and nodded.

"Yes, they were her family members. The old man with a brain in his ass is their House Lord, Marvin. The three on his right are his disappointments, aka his children. Namely Reinar, Roland, and Selena."

Aegon pursed his lips to hide laughter while the Songsword Family members’ faces turned ugly hearing her words. Only Marvin remained indifferent, as if all of this was beneath him.

"On his left is the idiot who spread her legs to bring the disappointments into this world. Miraculously, she managed to produce a star of a child but then again, a lotus also blooms in mud. Oh, her name is as irrelevant as she is, so you can forget it."

"Are you done?" Marvin asked calmly. "I’m sure Lord Augustus taught you not to keep people waiting outside, especially family members."

Xiu blinked in confusion. "I did invite family members but they aren’t here yet. Also, did you just come here because of Dad?"

Although he didn’t say anything, there was a faint crack in Marvin’s indifferent expression. That was enough to show Xiu had guessed right.

Xiu couldn’t believe it for a second, but then she burst out laughing, finding it way too amusing. "Hahah! What? You thought of bullying me now that Dad is out of the Empire? Do I really look that gullible to you?"

Her laughter echoed in every corner of the mansion, as even the Starflies began to dance around as if they were sharing her joy.

Maids had gathered below, as they all looked above at their mistress and awaited further orders. Although Aegon hadn’t seen them in action, he was sure they weren’t to be messed with either.

He just looked between Xiu and his supposed maternal family. Even he could see that they saw Arnold’s absence as an opportunity to attack them. But the question remained. Why?

’Do they have some former rivalry?’

Shaking his head, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He knew if he let things be, Xiu would crack open someone’s skull because she was looking really pissed.

’It isn’t just because of this. It feels like years of pent-up rage and hatred finally showing up. What the hell did these guys do to make her hate them so much?’

There were many questions which he ignored for the time being and he pushed Xiu slightly back while facing Marvin.

He smiled lightly and said, "Greetings, Lord Songsword. Why are you here?"

"Seems like you weren’t raised properly either," Marvin’s wife, Isabella, chided from the side. "Is this a place to talk? Invite us in and then we can talk over tea. That’s how a proper noble behaves."

"It’s nothing to worry about," Marvin said. "It’s not too late, so we’ll help you get over this hooligan lifestyle. You are my grandson and hence you’ll behave like one."

Aegon could feel Xiu’s grip on his hand tightening, asking him to hold her back otherwise even she would regret what she would do to them.

This was a line that, once crossed, meant you were in her death zone. She hated people pointing fingers at her parenting the most.

In fact, this displeased Aegon too. He didn’t have a good impression of the Songsword Family to begin with and now it plummeted even further.

Still, he didn’t want to deal with all this bullshit on a day which was supposed to be very memorable and joyful to him.

"Are you sure about that?" Aegon asked, keeping his voice calm. "Last time I remember, my paternal grandfather went to do some important work and my maternal grandfather became a martyr for the Human Domain. And mind you, I have perfect memory."

Xiu froze hearing his words as all the anger dispersed instantly, leaving only his words echoing in her mind in an endless loop.

Somehow, the fact that Aegon considered her parents, her dear father and mother, his grandparents filled her with so much joy that she couldn’t even describe it.

She felt proud beyond words. She wanted to cry and tell her parents that she had raised such a good child. She wanted to see them play with him and realise that they also had a grandchild now.

Her eyes grew moist as the old memories of her parents returned to her. She only managed to compose herself through sheer spite that still lingered in the back of her head.

She wouldn’t show her weak side before these people who wanted to take advantage of her and her child.

Aegon didn’t notice her reaction, as he just stared at the Songsword Family while they all stared at him in disbelief. Even Marvin seemed shocked at his words.

’What’s so surprising about this?’ he wondered. ’Did they really think they’d come here and I’d welcome them with open arms? The hell? How did these idiots manage to bring a genius like Senior into this world?’

"Are you refusing to acknowledge your relationship with us?" Marvin asked in his deep voice. "I am your grandfather. You can’t change that fact because my blood runs in your veins."

Aegon sighed. "I don’t know what you’re expecting me to say or do, but I’ll ask you to leave and come later. We’ll do this later. And yes."

He paused and then added,

"And I don’t care about your blood. My mother is Chen Xiu, so I certainly don’t have you as my maternal family. These are my words to you. Back off now, so there is no ill will between us."
