Zombie Bodyguard-Chapter 1600 - 1597: The Star Arrives
"If I remember correctly, you were the one driving recklessly on campus that day and hit Qiao Xiaoyi," Lin Tian said loudly as he put down his lunchbox, making sure everyone around heard.
"What do you mean? He suddenly darted out. That’s just asking for trouble, you know?" Liu Yuansi sneered.
He Xiaofei and a few others frowned and asked Lin Tian, "What’s going on? What’s this about hitting someone?"
Lin Tian continued loudly, "That day was the first day of the new student welcome event, and for safety reasons, the school prohibited vehicles from entering through the main gate. You drove in through the gate without authorization and almost hit a female student. Fortunately, Qiao Xiaoyi risked himself to save her. And yet, you have the nerve to slander Xiaoyi."
He said this for two reasons: one, to help Qiao Xiaoyi regain some image in Mu Binglan’s eyes, and two, to let everyone around know what really happened.
As expected, Mu Binglan gave Qiao Xiaoyi a surprised look. In her view, a seemingly weak man risking danger to stop a car and save someone completely defied her expectations.
Meanwhile, the people around started looking at Liu Yuansi with angry eyes.
"What nonsense are you spouting? Do you have any evidence? If you slander me, be careful, or I’ll report you to your dean and get you expelled." Liu Yuansi aimed his threat at Lin Tian, which was his goal.
Expulsion is a threat that usually works on ordinary students, but it had no effect on Lin Tian. He continued loudly, "Evidence? The evidence is that you’re not a student at Jinghua University but a truant from another school, coming here to hit on girls. You even said that at Jinghua University, you can do whatever you want, hit on whoever you like. You were driving a red sports car that day, am I wrong?"
"Or perhaps, can you produce a student ID from Jinghua University to prove you’re a student here?" Lin Tian countered with a question.
These words poked the hornet’s nest, but it was Lin Tian who helped Liu Yuansi do the poking. Such words riled up the pride of Jinghua University’s elite students. Liu Yuansi couldn’t possibly present a student ID from Jinghua University, so he had no way to refute.
"Too outrageous! A truant from another school coming to Jinghua University to flaunt? Do they think we have no one here at Jinghua University?"
"Teach him a lesson!"
A group of people stood up one after another, all eyes fixed angrily on Liu Yuansi.
"Who’s showing off at our school?" Five people squeezed in, wearing jerseys and holding footballs. Each of them was tall and imposing.
"Is it you?" The athletes pointed at Liu Yuansi, looking like they were about to fight.
Liu Yuansi hadn’t expected this. He had come to provoke Lin Tian, but instead, Lin Tian outmaneuvered him with just a few words, stirring up everyone around into a united front against him. No matter how arrogant or spoiled he was, he wouldn’t dare to take on a group of people alone.
Someone suddenly barged in from outside the crowd, grabbed Liu Yuansi, and hurriedly led him out, only stopping after they were far from the angered crowd.
"Is this how you handle people?" Zhao Weitao asked, clearly displeased, with a hint of mockery.
Liu Yuansi was also embarrassed, "I indeed underestimated him. I didn’t expect him to pull such a move. Next time, if there’s a chance, I’ll get back at him."
"Forget it. Don’t get yourself into trouble. Jinghua University isn’t owned by your family, and if something happens, your dean uncle won’t cover for you," Zhao Weitao retorted with irritation.
"Damn, I’m doing all this for you. If you hadn’t taken an interest in that Xiao girl, would I even bother to provoke her?" Liu Yuansi, continuously mocked, was getting uneasy and annoyed.
Zhao Weitao’s expression improved slightly, patting Liu Yuansi’s shoulder, saying, "Brother, I appreciate your good intentions, but there’s no rushing things like this. A slow simmer brings out the flavor. I suggest you head back to your school. You’ve been recognized by so many people today, watch out you don’t get brick-thrown on your way back."
"I do plan to return, but I’ll wait till after tonight. I heard your school invited a big celebrity to perform at the welcome event, and I want to see which star it is. Do you think I’m here just for fun?" Liu Yuansi said indifferently.
"Mr. Liu, isn’t wooing celebrities’ children enough? You want to go for a real celebrity?" Zhao Weitao teased.
Liu Yuansi chuckled, "Why not? If I don’t, they’ll just be spent nights with directors." The two exchanged smiles, a look of shared understanding.
...
Lin Tian’s group had long dispersed. After all, students were just talking and had no real intention to fight, so they didn’t chase after Liu Yuansi.
"Lin Tian, you handled that really well. That guy walked away with his tail between his legs," He Xiaofei praised.
"I think a good beating would serve him a lesson," Mu Binglan interjected before Lin Tian could respond, sounding quite displeased. Clearly, she wasn’t impressed by Lin Tian and Qiao Xiaoyi’s "talk-only, no-action" approach.
If she hadn’t heard about Qiao Xiaoyi’s bravery in saving someone, she probably would have been yelling at him by now.
"What’s your plan here? Let’s hear it," Lin Tian almost interrupted her, urging.
"Isn’t there a new student welcome event tonight? Our class needs to perform an act, anything from music, chess, calligraphy, painting, singing, or dancing," He Xiaofei stated bluntly.
"Lin Tian, you’re quite handsome. How about you perform something solo, a solo song?" A female class leader joked.
Lin Tian waved his hand, refusing without hesitation, "Others ask for money to sing, I’d be risking my life. If you’re not afraid of ruining the reputation of Life Science Class 1, feel free to let me perform." Truth is, he could sing quite well, but he had no desire to show off.
Regardless, Lin Tian didn’t want the spotlight, so he continued eating while the class leaders discussed.
Once the meal was over, the class leaders finally reached a decision. The outcome left Lin Tian astounded, as Qiao Xiaoyi was chosen to represent the class with a solo performance.
As they left the cafeteria, Lin Tian couldn’t resist asking, "Xiaoyi, what instrument are you planning to play for your solo?"
"The flute," Qiao Xiaoyi replied.
"Very good," Lin Tian gave a thumbs up.
After parting ways with Qiao Xiaoyi, Lin Tian returned alone to the dormitory, and Xiao Manxuan had yet to return.
"What’s that little girl up to?" Lin Tian muttered to himself. Initially thinking of calling, he decided instead to send a text message.
Shortly, the little girl replied, albeit with just a few words: "Secret, see you at the auditorium tonight."
The auditorium was the venue for the welcome event. Lin Tian had a hunch about what she was up to.
Time flew by, and after dinner in the evening, it was already past six-thirty. With nothing else to do, Lin Tian headed to the auditorium early. Approaching from the side of the student dorms, he reached the auditorium’s side entrance before the main one.
Seeing the side door was closed, Lin Tian planned to circle to the main entrance when two cars sped by, nearly brushing past him as if he were invisible, before braking abruptly in front of the side door.
Who was driving so brazenly? Lin Tian frowned and glanced at the cars. They were a Toyota Alphard and a Ford minivan. The Alphard is a typical celebrity minibus. Seeing this car, Lin Tian knew it must be tonight’s star arriving for the event.
