Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower-Chapter 40: Superpower
Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Superpower
Silas stilled before masking his nervousness with a calm facade,
"May I ask why?"
Even though he tried his best to hide the overprotectiveness in his tone, Freya heard it.
Freya sighed helplessly; she didn’t know whether to scold her son or cry at the fact that he had now learnt to defy her.
’I think if Ivy asked him to become her lapdog, he would become one with joy!’
"I won’t eat her. I just want to confirm something."
Silas pursed his lips before saying calmly,
"I wasn’t worried about that. I just hope that you won’t scold her or say anything harsh."
Freya: "..." Look! Look! This is the child I had raised!
With exasperation on her face, Freya snorted,
"If I wanted to say harsh things, I wouldn’t have called you."
Silas felt assured, his tone became light as he replied, "Alright, I will bring her home."
"No. Bring her to the lab." Freya’s words were laced with urgency.
For a brief moment, Silas paused before asking,
"Mom, if you have any crazy ideas, please don’t perform them. My patience has been running thin for the past few days."
His words weren’t meant to scare Freya; he was just reminding her about his bottom line.
Freya sensed it too and closed her eyes,
"I just need her help."
She neither confirmed nor denied, but Silas understood that she wasn’t planning to harm Ivy.
"Alright. Let me ask her first." Silas agreed and hung up. Feeling Ivy’s curious stare on him, Silas explained,
"My mom called me. She wants to meet you in the lab."
Ivy opened her mouth to agree; however, Silas’s last three words froze her.
Lab...
They triggered some of the unpleasant memories that Ivy tried her best to suppress.
’Just this once... don’t forget... You owe Freya the most... even if she asks you to go to hell... You deserve it.’
In her past life, after Silas’s death, Freya fell into depression. Nothing could interest her. At first, she said harsh words, but as time passed, she withered in silence.
Gradually, she gave up on herself and committed suicide. Before leaving, she had given everyone a letter as a farewell gift.
Even Ivy got one. Freya had apologized to her for all the harsh things she had said. But the words that hit Ivy hard were the last few paragraphs,
"Ivy, I never let others know, but I loved Silas the most. Though he never expressed his feelings through his mouth like Asher, his actions explain everything.
When he was little, he brought me a bouquet of roses purely because I had complained that no one gave me flowers. It was meant for his father, but the silly child took it upon himself.
I hated you and never accepted you because I knew... Silas was capable enough to survive any situation, but would be defeated if you were involved.
I wasn’t afraid that you would take him away from me. I was afraid of the deep love he had for you. Your distant attitude fueled my worry.
With that said, I was indeed envious when he cared for you more than me. However, I just wanted to tell you... I don’t blame you for his death. It was his voluntary choice.
If there is a next life... either love him like no one exists for you, or be far from like two parallel lines."
Ivy admitted Freya’s words had hit her hard, and hence she opted for the latter choice.
"Ivy?" Silas’s inquiry-filled voice brought Ivy back from her daze, and she nodded, "Alright."
Silas stared at Ivy’s face, his soft tone soothed the heaviness in Ivy’s heart,
"If you don’t want to go, I can decline."
"No." Ivy firmly denied, and Silas could only respect her choice.
The duo reached the research lab, and it was only then did they realized that 4 days had passed. Right outside the gate, Freya was standing surrounded by a few bodyguards.
Zombies around the research lab weren’t many. Most of them were dealt with long ago.
Freya’s smooth black hair was tied in a messy bun, while her green eyes were serene like a calm lake. Even though Freya was in her late 40s, her body remained fit, and she had curves in all the right places.
Her aura was commanding and sharp, unlike the scholarly aura researchers have.
Seeing Ivy, she paused before nodding at her,
"Ivy, I need your help." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com
Silas frowned in disapproval. "At least give her some time to rest."
Freya: ("¬_¬) Yeah, forget there is an impostor among the Blackthrons.
Ivy shot a glare in Silas’s direction, which was enough to make him shut up. She turned toward Freya and said,
"Let’s go."
Freya shook her head,
"He is right. I was being too hasty; you both should rest first."
Silas was content. Without giving Ivy a chance to disagree, he pulled her toward the dormitory.
The area around the lab wasn’t hustling and bustling with activity; frankly, none of the researchers made a single noise from the fear that they would attract the zombie.
In the past two months, a lot of chaos has happened. The government had deployed military and food rations just to calm the panicked hearts of commoners, and it worked.
Safe zones were created, and many refugees used their skills to earn a living.
Researchers in the institutes where they were walking were originally refugees. Only 10% of the old researchers remained; the rest had perished.
Soon, they reached the dormitory. Ivy was led to a spacious room while Silas went to his father’s room.
Once inside, he took off his clothes and went to the shower.
Many thoughts ran through his mind. He wasn’t blind. He had seen how some of the researchers were able to produce fire with a snap of their fingers.
"If everyone has awakened a superpower... why haven’t I?"
Midway through his shower, he suddenly received a notification,
[Congratulations! You have been selected to bind with a Weapon Buff system! Would you like to accept the invitation?]
