Chapter 359: Chapter 359: It’s All Your Fault

Audrey Vance looked down at her abdomen and said with distress: "But your belly..."

"It’s fine, I’m not that fragile!" Maxwell Vance said, covering his still aching abdomen, and instructed the servant next to him: "Push me to the hospital, quickly, I can’t let May Morgan see Adam Owens alone!"

The servant looked at Audrey Vance with some difficulty, and Audrey Vance hesitated a little before agreeing: "Then don’t get too excited later; if you feel uncomfortable, tell me, and we’ll go see the doctor right away."

"I know, Aunt, hurry up and push me in, quick!"

The reason Maxwell Vance was so anxious to see Adam Owens wasn’t just because of Victor Grant, but because she previously didn’t know Adam Owens was injured to protect May Morgan, shielding her from the knife. She never thought her man would be willing to risk his life for another woman.

This was the outcome she feared the most; she was afraid, despite her efforts to give Adam Owens a child, his heart would still only belong to that woman.

She couldn’t accept it; she couldn’t accept such a result!

When May Morgan and Victor Grant arrived at Adam Owens’ ward, Maxwell Vance also had people rush her in a wheelchair, arriving almost at the same time. To prevent May Morgan from seeing Adam Owens alone, Maxwell Vance practically hurried in first.

Audrey Vance arrived right after and seeing May Morgan trying to enter, quickly grabbed her arm and whispered to advise: "May Morgan, for everyone’s sake, why don’t you leave first?"

Before May Morgan could speak, Victor Grant took the opportunity to push her in: "You’re already here, so why not go in and have a look?"

Audrey Vance looked helplessly at Victor Grant before her, wondering if this man’s thinking was problematic? Lying inside was May Morgan’s ex-boyfriend; was he really that willing to let them meet?

"Victor Grant, I heard you’ll be marrying May Morgan in a few days, so why are you doing this? What if..."

"There’s no ’what if.’ I know all about your son; even ten of him wouldn’t match up to one finger of mine. I’m not even bothered to consider him a rival!" Victor Grant snorted disdainfully.

Audrey Vance realized he was venting anger at her, which was why he was doing such astonishing things, and she bitterly apologized to him: "Mr. Grant, if I’ve said anything inappropriate, I hope you won’t take it to heart."

Victor Grant looked her up and down, his disdain still apparent: "Do you really think I’m doing this just to compete with you? It’s simply because I don’t want May Morgan to feel embarrassed. Only I can speak about my woman; nobody else can talk behind her back."

Then he looked up at May Morgan standing awkwardly inside, his smile gradually warming: "Anyway, I’m not worried about May Morgan and Adam Owens; I’ll follow her heart."

As long as she’s happy, that’s all that matters. After all, compared to Adam Owens, the person he truly needs to guard against has always been Vincent Vance.

After being pushed into the ward by Victor Grant, May Morgan stood awkwardly behind Maxwell Vance. Fearing she might speak to Adam Owens, Maxwell Vance deliberately held Adam Owens’ hand, constantly asking, "Adam Owens, how’s the wound? Is it better? Can you move now? What did you eat for lunch? Was it to your taste? If not, I’ll have the cook from home make something for you; you look so thin..."

Maxwell Vance kept holding Adam Owens’ hand, talking, but Adam Owens didn’t even look at her, his eyes fixed on May Morgan’s face.

"You came?" Adam Owens directly skipped Maxwell Vance’s words and whispered to May Morgan.

May Morgan coughed lightly and replied with a lowered head: "Yes, I’m here to see you; I’m relieved knowing you’re okay."

She glanced to see Maxwell Vance glaring at her with venomous eyes, and to avoid making things awkward, she quickly said goodbye to Adam Owens: "Well, I’ll leave now since everything’s fine."

Adam Owens was reluctant to see her leave like this, quickly asking, "When will you come to see me again?"

May Morgan froze, awkwardly saying, "I’m getting married to Victor Grant in a few days, so I might be busy for a while. Take care of yourself!"

"May Morgan!" Seeing May Morgan about to open the door to leave, Adam Owens suddenly shook off Maxwell Vance’s hand holding him and struggled to get out of bed: "Do you really have to marry Victor Grant?"

Maxwell Vance was thrown aside by Adam Owens, nearly falling over; had it not been for the servant who quickly caught her, she might have been tossed to the ground with the wheelchair.

"I-I’ve already registered with Victor Grant, and the marriage is a sure thing; you don’t have to worry, I’ll be happy," May Morgan awkwardly nodded to Adam Owens and hastily said a few words before quickly opening the door and leaving.

Adam Owens’ wound hadn’t healed, and moving would cause immense pain, but seeing May Morgan open the door and leave, he unwillingly wanted to rush after her. However, as soon as he moved, the pain in his wound forced him to sit back on the bed.

"Adam Owens, why are you doing this? Her heart is no longer with you!" Maxwell Vance looked at Adam Owens in pain and advised him out of pity.

Adam Owens clutched his wound, giving Maxwell Vance a complicated look filled with numerous emotions. Maxwell Vance realized Adam Owens was venting all his unwillingness onto her.

"Adam Owens, why are you looking at me like this? You lost May Morgan, not me. It was my brother who took your woman, not me. The fact that you haven’t ended up together, what does it have to do with me?"

"Doesn’t it? If you hadn’t drugged me, hadn’t gotten pregnant, why would I marry you?" Adam Owens couldn’t help but yell at Maxwell Vance in anger.

The continuous mental torment had pushed Adam Owens to the brink of collapse. He knew his failure to be with May Morgan wasn’t strongly related to Maxwell Vance, but he couldn’t accept it. He couldn’t accept that he’d completely lost the woman he loved for five years, even though she divorced Vincent Vance and it wasn’t his turn to pick up the pieces.

Hence, at this moment, the only person he could vent his frustration on was Maxwell Vance, the woman who had completely deprived him of the opportunity to compete.

Maxwell Vance almost looked aghast at the man in front of her; she never thought that things would get to this point, and Adam Owens would still bring up past grievances. Moreover, why did he insist on blaming his mistakes on her?

"Adam Owens, I don’t understand, what did I do wrong? I worked hard to give you a child, and for this child, I lie in bed every day like a dead person, afraid to move. You don’t appreciate it, fine, but now you despise me and our child?"

Adam Owens glared at Maxwell Vance coldly, sarcastically mocking her: "Did I ask you to give me a child? Isn’t it you who wants to keep this child to hang onto our marriage? To put it bluntly, you just want this child to tie me down."
