Chapter 344: Chapter 344: I Don’t Believe I Can’t Corner You

"No, I just got back from the hospital and realized I haven’t seen you in days, so I came to check on you and Dad."

"Oh, then come on over, your dad hasn’t gone to bed yet either. I’ll go call him down," Heather Holt said with a peculiar expression and hung up, then went to the study to call Justin Grant down.

The two of them were a bit surprised to see May Morgan had come back by herself: "May, why did you come over by yourself? Where’s Victor?"

May carefully scrutinized their expressions, which seemed natural and not as if they were lying. It seemed Victor Grant wasn’t here either.

May looked at Justin Grant in surprise and asked him back, "Dad, wasn’t it you who asked Victor to go to Garrison City so late? You said something was wrong with the subsidiary there, and it needed to be dealt with overnight?"

Justin Grant glanced at May with suspicion but didn’t speak. After weighing things in his mind, he nodded solemnly and replied, "Yes, I asked him to go. There was a rather significant issue in Garrison City that needed someone to handle it. I’m quite old now and can’t overwork myself. Besides, the company will eventually be handed over to you and Victor to manage. It’s a good opportunity for him to gain some experience now."

Justin Grant’s words clearly stunned Heather Holt: "Old man, when did Victor go? How come I didn’t know? It’s so late, what’s so urgent that it needs to be done at night? Aren’t you worried he..."

Before she could finish complaining, she caught sight of Justin Grant’s warning look, and Heather Holt realized there was more to it, so she hurriedly closed her mouth in time.

May discreetly observed their every move, and from the eye contact between Justin Grant and Heather Holt, she had already deduced that Victor Grant was lying, and Justin Grant was helping him with the lie.

And, from Heather Holt’s earlier complaint, she also determined that Victor Grant wasn’t at the Grant Residence.

Since he hadn’t gone to Garrison City and wasn’t at the Grant Residence, and wasn’t seen at Southgate Villa either, where could he have gone?

"Mom and Dad, it’s getting late, so I won’t disturb you any longer. You two should get some rest. I’ll come to see you some other day." Having confirmed that Victor Grant wasn’t at the Grant Residence, May didn’t plan to stay long. She politely got up and quickly turned to leave.

Heather Holt personally saw May to the door and felt a bit uneasy in her heart, so she advised May, "Don’t think too much. Go home and get some sleep. Victor will come back early tomorrow morning."

"I know, Mom. You go back too. I should head back to the hospital. I’ll come to see you when I have time."

After bidding farewell with a smile, May instructed the driver, "Drive to Southgate Villa."

The driver in front looked at May with confusion. She had just said she was going back to the hospital, so why was she suddenly going back to Southgate Villa?

"Miss Morgan, where are we actually going?" the driver asked uncertainly.

May answered him with certainty, "We’re going to Southgate Villa. I’m tired, and I’m heading back there to rest tonight."

The car quickly made its way back to Southgate Villa, and as expected, when May returned, Victor Grant hadn’t come back.

Miller, who accompanied May back to the villa, was about to head upstairs to help her make the bed, but as she turned around, May immediately stopped her: "Miller, you don’t need to do that. Let the house staff handle it. Sit down and rest."

May "kindly" patted the sofa beside her, signaling for Miller to sit.

Miller sat down across from May with a trembling face. Just as she was about to speak, May yawned on purpose and said to Miller, "Miller, let me rest on the sofa for a while. Stay with me. I haven’t been sleeping well these days and keep having nightmares."

Miller gave May a strange look, knowing that she was deliberately keeping her there to prevent her from sneaking away to inform Victor Grant. But since May was the mistress, and she had said so, what could Miller do?

Seeing May lying on the sofa with a cushion, Miller awkwardly stood up: "Um, should I get you a blanket?"

"No need. Let others in the house do it. You’ve been taking care of me in the hospital, and it must have been tiring. There’s no need to do everything yourself," May said politely but firmly.

Knowing that there was no chance to pass on any message this time, lest May wouldn’t allow any movement, Miller, unable to defy May, ultimately had no choice but to resign herself to sitting on the couch.

The clock ticked on, and May didn’t feel sleepy. She just laid on the sofa, hugging a pillow, watching the wall clock.

Actually, she was unsure whether Victor Grant would come back to sleep tonight. Given his usual frivolity, he might end up spending a night at some bar or club. Since there were so many bars and clubs, finding him would be like searching for a needle in a haystack. So she could only gamble that Victor would return tonight.

Beside her, Miller was already struggling to stay awake, yawning incessantly. But she didn’t dare to leave without May’s permission.

Just as Miller was about to collapse on the sofa and May almost drifted off, suddenly a car horn sounded outside the villa.

Hearing a car drive into the yard, May sat up from the sofa with a jolt. Good, very good, Victor Grant, you bastard, I finally caught you!

Miller was startled by May’s action and barely pulled herself together when the sound of someone opening the door was heard. Her face turned ashen, and she immediately sat up straight.

Victor Grant, eventually, was caught by May!

Victor Grant stared at May and Miller on the sofa in bewilderment, taking quite a while to come back to his senses.

"Why, why are you back?" Victor Grant’s eyes flashed with obvious panic as he hurriedly greeted May awkwardly.

May lifted her head, her gaze icy as she looked at him, and coldly questioned, "Didn’t you say you wouldn’t be back tonight?"

"Uh... I thought it would be tough, but it turned out to be easy to handle. So once I was done, I naturally came back," Victor Grant quickly lied as well.

May knew he was lying but didn’t want to expose him just yet because that would be too simple. As long as he returned the Jade Pendant, everything would be fine.

"Where’s the Jade Pendant?" May suddenly stood up from the sofa and reached out to Victor Grant for it.

Victor Grant didn’t have the Jade Pendant on him, so he continued to play dumb: "What Jade Pendant? I don’t understand what you’re talking about."

Seeing him deliberately stalling, May disappointingly glared at him, then turned to question Miller, "Miller, when you gave my pants to Victor Grant, was everything inside?"

Miller looked up at Victor Grant, who was frantically signaling her with his eyes, and followed along with the lie, "Miss Morgan, I didn’t see any Jade Pendant. Otherwise, I would have taken it out. Where’s this coming from?"
