Chapter 343: Chapter 343: Exposed

To prevent May Morgan from finding him, Victor Grant sent himself off directly to Garrison City, hundreds of kilometers away, making it impossible for May to find him.

Hearing that Victor was going out of town, May felt anxious but had to hold back: "Alright then, you’re coming back early tomorrow, right? I’ll also go back early tomorrow."

Victor Grant gave a complex smile and deliberately asked May flirtatiously: "Why, you miss me?"

May blushed and, too lazy to banter with him, hung up the phone.

Feeling irritated, she paced around the small living room, then went in to check on Vincent Vance, who was still unconscious in bed. Her guilt toward him grew heavier.

She originally thought that after obtaining the Jade Pendant and the method to release Vincent’s spirit, she could awaken him tonight. But she never expected things to turn out unpredictably.

She was indeed foolish — how could she not take out such an important item when changing her pants? Even Miller, who wasn’t usually so quick with her chores, hurried to take the dirty clothes back for Victor Grant to wash?

May glanced down at her phone in her hand, then turned to look at Miller, who was busy in the small living room, suddenly feeling something was off.

She remembered when the milk tea spilled on her clothes, her phone and the Jade Pendant were in the same pocket of her pants.

Yet, if Miller could retrieve her phone, why didn’t she think to also take out that important Jade Pendant?

Was it her oversight, or intentional?

May stared deeply at Miller for a while, growing more suspicious, feeling the whole thing was too coincidental, too perplexing.

Why did Miller give the pants to Victor Grant, who then suddenly had to leave for Garrison City late at night? Is he really that diligent? Or is he intentionally hiding something from her? Did he already know about the Jade Pendant?

She hesitated for quite a while, finally deciding to look into Victor Grant’s affairs. Although she wasn’t excessively obsessive, this matter was significant — the pendant concerned Vincent’s life. If Victor stole it and destroyed it, wouldn’t Vincent be unable to wake up forever?

She didn’t want to doubt Victor Grant, but for Vincent’s sake, she couldn’t trust anyone now.

May turned and stepped out from the room purposefully taking Miller with her, intending to return to the villa.

Miller looked puzzled — why did May want to go back so late at night? Didn’t she always want to stay at the hospital to take care of Vincent?

"Miss Morgan, why are we going back so late?" Miller asked, bewildered, after being dragged into the car by May.

May gave a slight smile, deliberately reaching out to ask for Miller’s phone: "To rest, of course. Oh, by the way, can I use your phone, Miller? Mine got soaked with milk tea and can’t be used for now."

Without suspecting anything, Miller handed her phone to May. After holding it, May pretended to dial a random number, then turned to the open window, pretending to make a call. But her hand shook, and Miller’s phone quickly fell out.

"Oh no, the phone fell!" Watching Miller’s phone swiftly drop to the road and shatter, May quickly apologized to Miller: "Sorry, Miller, I accidentally broke your phone. I’ll have Victor buy you a new one tomorrow."

Miller hadn’t seen clearly how May dropped her phone, so she was too embarrassed to blame her: "It’s alright, Miss Morgan, the phone wasn’t worth much anyway."

May sneered coldly to herself, then said again: "If it weren’t so late, I’d buy you a new one now. For tonight, you’ll have to make do, and I’ll have Victor buy you a new one tomorrow."

Miller awkwardly smiled, politely responding: "Really, there’s no need, Miss Morgan. You’ve always been so caring to me; if not for you, I wouldn’t have such a good job now."

May’s lips curled into a complex smile, but inwardly, she formed a strong opinion of Miller.

I’ve cared for you, but why do you keep betraying me? Do you just side with whoever has money? Victor Grant has money, so you conspire with him against me?

The driver quickly drove to Southgate Villa, and May eagerly opened the door, searching all around the villa, but found no trace of Victor Grant.

When asking the housekeepers, they all agreed in unison, saying Victor hadn’t returned.

He didn’t come back to the villa? Did she wrongly accuse him, and he truly went to Garrison City?

Yet, why did her heart feel like things were not that simple?

Unable to find Victor at the villa, May was not giving up and quickly pulled Miller along to the Grant Residence. Seeing May fussing late at night, Miller felt uneasy: "Miss Morgan, who on earth are you looking for?"

"Victor Grant, of course. I have matters to discuss with him!" May smiled slightly, dismissing Miller’s question.

Miller looked at May’s face with confusion and couldn’t help but ask again: "Didn’t Mr. Grant go to Garrison City to handle business? Where are you planning to find him?"

May turned and glanced at Miller, feigning surprise in her reply: "He went to Garrison City? How come I didn’t know? Wow, Miller, you and Victor have quite a good relationship; he tells you everything but keeps it from me, his wife?"

Stunned by May’s questions, Miller realized her faux pas only after a while and hurried to wave it off in defense: "No, no, it’s just Mr. Grant told me before he left that he was going to Garrison City for business and asked me to take good care of you."

Looking at Miller’s face, May suddenly smiled in disappointment: "Miller, you always advise me to have boundaries. But I think everything you’re doing now lacks those very boundaries."

Miller’s face paled with panic, quickly asking May: "Miss Morgan, what do you mean by that? I’ve never done anything to wrong you!"

With Miller, May could only feel a tinge of heartbreak, yet it wasn’t to the point of reproaching her — after all, she’s an elder, and just a servant working on Victor’s payroll; it’s normal to heed his wishes.

"Forget it, I don’t want to say any more. Once I find Victor, I’ll ask him directly."

May sighed in disappointment, turning to look at the night view outside, yet unwilling to take another glance at Miller.

Miller watched her back, her lips moving as if wanting to say something, but in the end, she swallowed her words.

By the time they arrived at the Grant Residence, it was already past ten p.m. To avoid appearing too abrupt, May intentionally called Heather Holt before going in, leaving a heads up: "Mom, I’m coming to the Grant Residence to see you. Are you asleep?"

Heather Holt was a night owl and hadn’t gone to bed yet. Hearing May was coming so late, she couldn’t help but feel puzzled: "Why are you coming so late? Did you have another fight with Victor?"
