[Vol. 6] Chapter 86: Flexibility and Nonexistent Moral Standards

“Hmph…”

With a snort that seemed almost human-like, Yazi, despite his evident displeasure, refrained from using his deadly claws against the remaining Mole Spirits. Instead, his long tail swept through the air with lightning speed, knocking unconscious those attempting to flee in terror or stage a desperate counterattack.

From the moment Violet personally stepped in to save Little Mole to the point where every Mole Spirit was either subdued, unconscious, or dead, their will to fight was utterly crushed. The battle lasted less time than it had taken for that single matchstick to burn out earlier.

When faced with true power, numbers mean nothing.

After eliminating all the enemies within the shrine’s hall, Yazi didn’t stop. Not long after, he brought back a terrified and pale Rat Spirit.

Who else could it be but Second Brother Tian, the one who had tried to flee under the cover of his subordinates’ efforts?

“Pah!”

Yazi spat the half-drenched Mole Spirit onto the ground. Then, as though his recent task had been nothing more than a leisurely stroll, the massive golden beast returned to Violet’s side, flopped down lazily, and pretended to nap.

While Bai’er and Murong Yun handled the shaken Little Mole and began checking on the remaining Mole Spirit members, the priestess and Ling Feng approached Second Brother Tian, who now lay paralyzed with fear. Violet looked at him with a faint smile.

“Well, I told you running away wasn’t going to work, didn’t I?”

“You… y-you, you people… Do you even know who you’re messing with? This is suicide! You’re all doomed! No one crosses them and gets away with it!”

Even in his pathetic state, Second Brother Tian still boasts, spouting threats like a cornered animal. Ling Feng’s expression darkened as she released an aura of mountainous, unyielding authority that made the air feel heavy.

“Ridiculous! The mere [Yokai Controlling Sect] dares to boast like this in a sanctified land? Who do you think you are! Spirit Veil Immortal Island or the Twelve Sacred Peaks?”

“A gang of sneaky cowards, too afraid to establish a proper sect or claim their own territory, skulking in the shadows like rats. And yet you spout such bold claims? Utterly laughable!”

“Fool! What do you know?”

Second Brother Tian spat out, his face twisting in fear and frustration.

“It’s precisely because they have no fixed location that they’re so terrifying! No one can find them, but they can appear anywhere, at any time, and take your life!”

Second Brother Tian, clearly shaken by the brief but overwhelming aura emanating from Ling Feng, began trembling uncontrollably. Yet, despite his fear, his mouth still refused to admit defeat.

“Don’t think that just because you’re strong, you can stand up to those people. Even if you don’t care about risking your life, what about your family, your friends? Can you guarantee they’re all capable of escaping their clutches?”

Violet smirked and cut him off, her tone calm but firm.

“What you fear doesn’t mean others will fear it too. You don’t need to worry about my loved ones. Now, let’s talk. Where are the [Yokai Controlling Sect] members? What are they planning? And where is your leader, the Mole King?”

Second Brother Tian flinched, his head drooping slightly in submission.

“I… I can’t say. If I talk, I’ll die a horrible death! They’ve marked me. They can find me anytime, anywhere, and kill me!”

Violet tilted her head slightly and smiled coldly.

“If you don’t talk, you’ll die a horrible death right here and now. And, oh, that Third Brother Tian, he’s your younger brother, isn’t he? As a demon with some cultivation, you should be able to sense that he’s still alive. But if you refuse to cooperate… well…”

Second Brother Tian’s face twisted in fury as he glared at Violet, who casually threatened him.

“Does this kind of behavior count as upholding justice?”

The priestess chuckled, shaking her head.

“Heh, when did we ever claim to be champions of justice? It’s the year 1000 in the Four Saints Calendar, and people still cling to that nonsense? So villains get to act without restraint, but the rest of us have to play by the rules?”

“To be honest, I have plenty of harsher methods to make you talk. But since you’re still worried about your brother, I figured I’d give you a chance out of respect for that sliver of conscience. Don’t waste it.”

“You… you wretched woman…!” Second Brother Tian spat, his fury barely masking his despair.

Unyielding and unaffected by threats or persuasion, the black-haired girl’s playful tone masked the same indifference she had shown earlier when lighting the match. Second Brother Tian, the cornered Rat Spirit, let out a deep breath. After hesitating for what felt like an eternity, he finally sighed in defeat.

“Fine, fine… I’ll give in. Either way, I’m dead. And honestly, if I had the chance to trip up those bastards who enslave yokai, who wouldn’t want to take it?”

“Still, I don’t know much useful information. Only the Mole King himself was deeply involved in the core of this scheme. The rest of us were just laborers being exploited for our usefulness.”

“No problem. Just tell us whatever you know. If you cooperate, I can guarantee your safety.”

Second Brother Tian didn’t seem convinced by her promise. He sighed again, resigned, and began speaking in a low voice.

“This all started a few months ago.”

“One day, the Mole King gathered a few of the most trusted members of the gang and said he wanted to introduce someone to us…”

………………………….

“And that’s it. That’s all we were really involved in, just this one task. The rest was minor, irrelevant stuff.”

“You’re saying… you excavated a tunnel on Peach Blossom Peak?”

Violet exchanged a surprised glance with Ling Feng before continuing her questioning.

“How long is the tunnel? Where does it lead?”

Second Brother Tian shook his head.

“Sorry, I have no idea. Our job was only to help the [Yokai Controlling Sect] control the workers digging the tunnel. Afterward, the Mole King took over, and none of those workers ever came back. With something like that, who would dare ask questions?”

“A tunnel on Peach Blossom Peak…”

Violet glanced at the imposing statue of the [Nine-Pattern Earth Spirit Great Saint] standing in the center of the crypt, deep in thought. Ling Feng, however, quickly picked up where Violet had left off.

“Then, who was the person from the [Yokai Controlling Sect] who came to your base? And where are they now?”

At the mention of this individual, Second Brother Tian’s face twisted into a pained expression.

“I’m not even sure if he was from the [Yokai Controlling Sect]. Back then, the Mole King just brought him over, forced us to bear his mark, and made us follow his every order.”

“His name, age, and origins are completely unknown to us,” Second Brother Tian continued, his voice trembling.

“But that guy was strange. His hair and eyebrows were as white as an old man’s about to lose them all, yet his face and exposed skin were unnaturally smooth and youthful, almost unnervingly so. He looked like… a monster.”

“As for his name, we just called him the [Apothecary]. That’s the name he gave us himself.”

“The [Apothecary]…?”

Hearing the peculiar tone in Ling Feng’s voice, Violet, who had just finished her thoughts, turned her head toward her.

“What’s wrong? Do you know this guy?”

Ling Feng nodded without hesitation, her expression turning serious as she leaned in to speak softly, ensuring only Violet could hear.

“The [Apothecary] is one of the [Seven Heavenly Demon Lords]. He’s the most bizarre, terrifying, and enigmatic among them. In fact, he’s arguably the most difficult to deal with.”

“His origins are a complete mystery. He’s been active for at least several centuries and is the least publicly seen of all the [Heavenly Demon Lords]. Almost all his actions happen from the shadows, and he rarely, if ever, engages in direct combat. Yet his influence and the disasters he causes are among the most severe and unmanageable of all those monsters.”

“Unlike the likes of [Sky Wanderer], who is an unparalleled assassin capable of silently eliminating key targets, The [Apothecary]’s methods go far beyond the realm of containment or defense. His focus isn’t on killing, he’s obsessed with crafting all sorts of unimaginable drugs.”

“Medicines that heal, poisons that kill, drugs that addict, concoctions that bring joy, inflict pain, induce madness. Anything you can think of, anything possible, The [Apothecary] will experiment with.”

“However, he lacks a normal person’s sense of morality or the ethical boundaries of a healer. His drug experiments always require test subjects. Wherever he goes, he uses the hidden lives of local creatures and people to test his latest creations, showing no regard for the consequences.”

“And once he’s gathered all the data he needs on the effects, transformations, and reactions of his concoctions, he vanishes without a trace. What remains are the innocent victims left to suffer the bizarre consequences of his drugs. Sometimes sparking riots, other times unleashing devastating plagues that claim countless lives.”

“The most horrifying part? The [Apothecary] has openly admitted he has the ability to fix the havoc he causes. He simply refuses to, claiming it unnecessary. He doesn’t deliberately kill, but he also doesn’t see life as sacred.”

“He is arguably the most vile, unscrupulous, and terrifying… evil doctor in the world.”
