Why Am I a Priestess When I Reach the Maximum Level?-Chapter 85[Vol. 6] - Confronting Ferocity with Ferocity
[Vol. 6] Chapter 85: Confronting Ferocity with Ferocity
Violet’s stern and judgmental demeanor instantly provoked the Mole Gang. These mountain spirits and wild creatures, known for their unruly nature, began shouting in outrage.
“Who the heck do you think you are? Barging into our hideout with just a few people and then demanding we surrender our weapons? Do you take us for cowards? You even accused us of harboring a spy from the [Yokai Controlling Sect], where’s your proof?”
“Yeah, exactly! Acting so high and mighty. Anyone would think you were one of the Twelve Peak Lords. With just a handful of people like you, we could drown you with a single spit from each of us, couldn’t we, brothers?”
Amid the commotion, the black-haired girl calmly observed. She held a piece of burning firewood between her fingers, now half-consumed. Her cold gaze swept over the group, focusing on the ringleaders, led by Second Brother Tian, who incited the gang to anger and suspicion. Some demons were fuming, others whispering among themselves or casting uncertain glances.
“Exactly! Even if it’s the [Yokai Controlling Sect], they need evidence to back their claims.”
“Hmph, though now that I think about it, something’s been off lately. The Mole King’s been acting all mysterious, and he hasn’t shown up for days. He took some of the gang all the way to Yangyuan County, and when they came back, they didn’t explain a thing. It’s hard not to be suspicious.”
“Since Little Mole is taking their side and even going to such lengths, could it be true after all…?”
“Not necessarily! It could be just like Second Brother Tian said…”
As the standoff dragged on and the firewood in Violet’s hand burned faster, none of her companions stepped in to interrupt. A small Mole Spirit standing beside Violet hesitated several times before finally gathering the courage to shout out.
“Everyone, listen to me! There *is* a spy from the [Yokai Controlling Sect] in our gang! That human the Mole King brought back is one of their agents! And that medicine, they’re poison! They make us sick to their stomachs!”
“Second Brother Tian has joined forces with them too! If it weren’t for this lady here saving me yesterday, he would’ve finished me off!”
“I’m not good with words… but Little Mole really doesn’t want everyone to stay in the dark, being used as tools by bad people! Our gang’s greatest principle is freedom, isn’t it? But think about it, how much freedom have we had lately?”
“Don’t listen to her nonsense! She’s obviously been coerced or brainwashed by these outsiders! The [Yokai Controlling Sect] is infamous for using such tricks!”
As Second Brother Tian roared back without an ounce of concession, Little Mole, feeling a surge of determination, suddenly stepped out from Violet’s protective range. She stood in the middle of the two opposing sides and shouted at the top of her voice.
“I swear upon my very essence that every word I just said is true and spoken from the depths of my heart! If I am lying, may I be destroyed in both body and soul, never to reincarnate. Let the heavens bear witness!”
“Witness my foot! I’ll kill you, you filthy liar, before you spread any more nonsense!”
Before Little Mole could bite her finger to draw a symbol with her blood, a dark shadow suddenly burst forth from the crowd. A set of razor-sharp claws, radiating cold killing intent, slashed straight toward her chest!
And at that precise moment…
The slender piece of firewood in Violet’s fingers burned completely to ash and disintegrated into dust.
“Ah!”
A gleaming white staff materialized in the black-haired girl’s hand, shimmering with light. She darted forward in a flash, pulling the terrified Little Mole, frozen in fear from the deadly attack, behind her. With a swift motion, she swung the staff backward in a fierce counterattack!
*BANG!!!*
The impact resonated through her palm as the dark figure was sent flying at an even faster speed than its approach. It crashed into one of the temple’s thick wooden pillars with a violent thud, shaking the entire inner hall. Blood sprayed out as the figure slid lifelessly to the ground, completely still.
“You dare kill my brother?! Attack! Kill these [Yokai Controlling Sect] scum!!”
“Kill!!!”
To everyone’s surprise, the brutal and swift defeat didn’t instill fear. Instead, it seemed to ignite a savage rage in the attackers. Like desperate beasts fueled by the scent of blood and the heat of battle, Second Brother Tian’s shout spurred many of the demons into a frenzy. Eyes bloodshot, they roared in unison and charged, weapons raised, slashing wildly at Violet and her companions.
However, Little Mole’s earlier heartfelt plea had not been in vain. Among the Mole Spirits present, less than half joined the assault. The rest hesitated, casting uneasy glances at one another. Some even began to step aside, deliberately distancing themselves from the chaos.
Fear or doubt, whatever they might be feeling now, no longer mattered.
The truth was, as long as their reactions showed clear differences, it was enough for her to identify her targets.
“Defend!”
Protecting the motionless Ling Feng, Bai’er parried an incoming blade with a swift strike of her sword. In a flash of cold steel, her enemies were sent staggering back, spitting blood.
On another front, Murong Yun unleashed powerful palm strikes, sending nearby Mole Spirits flying. The Mole Gang, disorganized and cowardly at their core, posed little challenge to those approaching or already at the [Seeker of Immortality] of strength.
Given enough time, these two alone could have handled the situation entirely.
But Violet had no intention of wasting time playing a drawn-out game.
*ROAR!!!*
With a majestic roar, neither beastly nor draconic, a large, golden-furred creature stepped boldly in front of the black-haired girl. Its fluffy, harmless-looking exterior belied its ferocity.
Sharp claws extended, slicing through the air.
*Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash!*
More than a dozen Mole Spirits at the front line were ripped apart mid-charge by the sheer force of its claw swipe, their blood spraying across the hall. Their mangled bodies fell like broken dolls, utterly powerless against the attack.
Yet even in the face of such a gruesome display, the remaining bloodthirsty Mole Gang’s members showed no hesitation. Stepping over the corpses of their fallen comrades, they charged ahead with blades drawn, aiming for vengeance.
*Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!*
Eighteen weapons of various shapes, swords, daggers, claws, struck the golden beast’s back all at once. But what seemed like soft, shiny fur was as impenetrable as ancient steel armor. Not a single weapon could scratch it. Instead, the clash rang out like metal striking metal, leaving blades bent and claws shattered.
*Slash!*
With another sweep of its claws, the Mole Spirits attacking the beast were torn to pieces, leaving no remains behind.
“No! Stop! Great Immortal, please show mercy!”
Watching the golden beast mow through the mole gang as easily as cutting through weeds, Little Mole was struck with shock and horror. Overwhelmed by the bloody sight, she quickly abandoned formalities and ran forward, pleading for her comrades’ lives.

Clearly, Little Mole could not accept resolving the internal conflict caused by the [Yokai Controlling Sect] through slaughter. Perhaps the little yokai had never taken a life before in her entire existence.
The Mole Spirits who had hesitated and refrained from attacking were now utterly terrified by the scene before them. Realizing the earlier threats were not mere bluffs, they scrambled to kneel, their faces pressed to the ground as they begged for mercy in a panicked chorus.
“Immortal, please have mercy! Spare our lives!”
“Hmm…?”
The black-haired girl, who had been quietly observing the one-sided battle while contemplating her next move, frowned slightly. She turned her gaze toward Little Mole, who had bruised her forehead in desperation and now looked utterly forlorn. Then, she glanced at Ling Feng, who tugged at her sleeve as if silently pleading as well.
Violet let out an almost imperceptible sigh.
“Fine, Little Fang. Just make sure they can’t fight back anymore.”
“Rrroar…?”
The massive golden beast, which had already decimated nearly half of the enemy force within just a few moves, paused mid-step. Standing amidst the carnage, with shattered corpses scattered beneath its paws, it turned to look at its master.
Its ferocious eyes, which brimmed with lethal intent even as weapons harmlessly struck its impenetrable fur, now held a trace of confusion.
Violet knew why it didn’t understand.
In the law of the jungle, combat is a matter of life and death. Life comes only once, and sparing an enemy is akin to being cruel to oneself. Little Fang had always delivered lethal blows, whether in battles against foes or even against Violet herself during their sparring in the mental realm.
This was the right approach. One doesn’t put oneself at risk out of misplaced pity for the enemy. After all, Violet had already given them a chance to surrender. It was their own choice to walk down this path to destruction.
But still…
“Just do as I said,” she instructed softly.
The correct choice isn’t always the most appropriate one, is it?
