Why Am I a Priestess When I Reach the Maximum Level?-Chapter 80[Vol. 6] - The Tables Turn
[Vol. 6] Chapter 80: The Tables Turn
“So that’s how it is…”
Violet nodded thoughtfully, glancing at the nervous Mole Spirit who had cautiously stood up in front of her but seemed unsure how to proceed.
“I think I understand the situation, but, Little Mole, if I’m not mistaken, you’re worried that you can’t offer us a reward that would satisfy us. You’re afraid that after we help, we might turn on you. Isn’t that right?”
The priestess’s deduction wasn’t baseless.
In the world of yokai, things are simple, much simpler than human society. The stronger the yokai, the higher its status. Without personal connections, asking for help requires appropriate compensation. These rules are almost universally accepted among spirits.
So, if Violet were to agree to help without hesitation, it would only make the Mole Spirit more nervous, fearing ulterior motives.
As expected, the Mole Spirit flinched at Violet’s words, her round ears perking up in alarm. She quickly began shaking her head and trying to explain.
“No, no, no! Great Immortal… While I’m just a poor little spirit, if it’s about the [Mole King]…”
Violet raised a hand, cutting off the Mole Spirit’s desperate attempt to make a hollow promise, and shook her head.
“There’s no need for that. For one, the current situation of this [Mole King] is unclear, as is its relationship with the opposing side. It might not even be under coercion or control. And even if it does need our help, I have no intention of charging you a fee.”
“To be honest, Little Mole, this is more of a mutual partnership. Just as you suspect, we don’t get along with the [Yokai Controlling Sect]. In fact, we’re here to investigate some of their activities…”
“Here’s the deal, we’ll handle this matter for you without charge and try to resolve it as smoothly as possible. In return, you’ll cooperate with us unconditionally until this situation is resolved. How does that sound?”
“R-really? You mean it, Great Immortal?”
“Of course. Come here.”
Violet gestured to the Mole Spirit, stopping her from practically dancing with excitement.
The little mole didn’t dare disobey. She cautiously moved closer, keeping a respectful distance as though afraid of offending such a noble figure. She timidly lifted her gaze to the white-robed girl, who appeared to be studying her frail face intently.
“What is it, Great Immortal?”
“Hmm… this might hurt a little. Try to bear with it, okay?”
Saying this casually, Violet knelt down and gently pulled aside the crude fur garment that the Mole Spirit was wearing. Her fair fingertips lightly pressed against the small creature’s exposed abdomen.
“Eek!”
Startled by the Mole Spirit’s sudden yelp, Violet sighed and shook her head in exasperation.
“What are you yelling for? I haven’t even started yet.”

“S-sorry, Great Immortal. It tickles a little… and, um, it’s kind of embarrassing…”
“Really? You’re just a little girl~”
“Hey, hey, stop teasing!!”
Before the Mole Spirit could protest further, golden light flared from Violet’s fingertips. The glow radiated outward, sending a gust of wind rippling through the shadowy forest canopy. The light swiftly sank into the Mole Spirit’s smooth, flat abdomen, causing an intense, indescribable pain to surge through her.
“G-Great Immortal!!”
Not understanding what Violet was doing, the little yokai couldn’t hold back her pained cry. But Violet ignored her protests, fully focused on controlling the intensity of her magic. The golden light pulsed rhythmically, like a gentle yet deliberate breath.
Soon, an intricate and sinister pattern began to emerge on the Mole Spirit’s skin, centered where Violet’s fingers touched.
The pattern resembled the markings of a talisman, forming a strange circular design with sharp, thorn-like edges. It looked almost like a collar locked tightly around the neck of a wild beast.
At that moment, the thorny parts of the pattern began to emit a harsh glow, resisting Violet’s purification magic. The backlash caused the Mole Spirit unbearable pain.
“As I thought…”
Violet recognized this as a [Yokai-Suppressing Seal]. Though its design differed slightly from the one she had seen on the black mamba spirit before, its function was essentially the same.
According to Ling Feng, most spirits under the control of the [Yokai Controlling Sect] bear this mark. It is usually hidden in discreet places, out of sight to avoid detection.
Earlier, the Mole Spirit had mentioned feeling inexplicably dizzy and sluggish whenever she tried to break through. This indicated that some vital part of her body was being infiltrated by a foreign energy.
The spot Violet pressed on was actually where a spirit’s core is formed, a crucial area for any spirit. The last time, the [Yokai-Suppressing Seal] on the snake spirit had been hidden in a similar location. Since the Mole Spirit was also a spirit creature, it was likely the same for her.
As expected, once external force was applied, traces of the incomplete spell were revealed.
This particular [Yokai-Suppressing Seal] was still in its early stages, lurking inside the Mole Spirit and slowly expanding its influence. However, if it were threatened with complete eradication, it could still activate and retaliate violently, like a cornered beast making a desperate last stand.
It seemed the Mole Spirit hadn’t lied. Her condition matched her description perfectly. With this confirmed, Violet knew what to do next.
“Great Immortal… is it done yet? It hurts… it really hurts…”
Even though the oppressive mark caused sharp pain that made her gasp and her frail body tremble, the Mole Spirit continued to trust and cooperate with Violet. She didn’t resist at all, which pleased the priestess greatly.
The black-haired girl gave a small nod, signaling the end of her examination and preparation.
“[Heavenly Shower of Sweetness]”
Golden light converged, forming a single drop of dew at Violet’s fingertip. The droplet gently seeped into the Mole Spirit’s abdomen, spreading warmth through her body.
Moments later, the Mole Spirit glowed with a radiant golden light.
The ominous, collar-like pattern symbolizing control and enslavement faded under the golden glow. Like a stain washed away by clear water, it weakened, dissolved, and ultimately vanished without a trace.
“Huh…? What’s this?”
Violet stood and closed the Mole Spirit’s garment, smiling as she gave the astonished little creature a light pat on the head.
“You did well. You didn’t lie to me and made the right choice. How do you feel now?”
The Mole Spirit instinctively touched her still-flat abdomen, answering honestly.
“It feels warm… and it doesn’t hurt anymore. Great Immortal, what was that just now?”
“It’s the filthy thing you swallowed. I’ve wiped it out. Luckily, it hadn’t fully matured yet. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have had the chance to come to me for help.”
“Alright, now let’s deal with something else.”
As Violet spoke, she suddenly raised her hand. Light burst forth from her palm, forming a massive construct shaped like an enlarged replica of her hand, glowing intensely, with slightly curved fingers.
*Whoosh!*
The energy in the air compressed violently, creating a powerful gust of wind that made the surrounding trees rustle loudly. Before the Mole Spirit could figure out what this “Great Immortal” was doing, a shadowy figure was suddenly flung from the nearby bushes. The glowing hand caught the figure mid-air, clutching its throat firmly.
“Guh! Mmmfff…!!!”
The shadow struggled desperately, thrashing about, but it couldn’t escape Violet’s overwhelming control. All its resistance was in vain.
“Heh, it seems someone has already set their sights on you,” Violet said with a calm smile.
“G-Great Immortal, is that…?”
Holding the glowing hand steady in mid-air, Violet took a few steps forward, motioning for the startled and trembling Mole Spirit to follow.
“Isn’t it obvious? This is someone sent to spy on you and track your movements.”
Reaching the shadow’s side, Violet casually used her glowing holy staff to lift the hood covering its head.
“I told you, you’ve done well. Because you were cautious and didn’t act recklessly, you’ve given yourself a chance to survive.”
She glanced at the shadowy figure and continued.
“This thing has probably been tailing you for some time. If you had shown any signs of noticing it, like trying to warn others or seeking help, it likely would have captured you or even killed you outright.”
Violet turned back to the Mole Spirit, whose face had turned pale as she began to comprehend the gravity of the situation.
“You were this close to being doomed.”
