Chapter 155: Chapter 155: The King of Kids Playing with the Kids

By the time Blaze came out of the shower, Luna was already asleep, bundled up in the blankets.

"It’s only been a few minutes, and she’s already fallen asleep."

Blaze squatted by the bed, watching her nose twitch slightly. Her cheeks were flushed from sleep, and she looked especially docile as she slept.

His large hand gently stroked the top of her smooth hair. "You’ve been sleeping a lot lately, haven’t you?"

"And you’re getting angry now too. You were angry earlier, weren’t you? Luna, do you even understand what you’re feeling? Do you know what possessiveness is?"

He had a mountain of questions, but the sleeping girl couldn’t answer a single one.

Blaze squatted before the bed, murmuring on and on.

Finally, his gaze settled on her pale pink lips, and he leaned in for a kiss.

Drowsy with sleep, Luna felt a strange, ticklish sensation on her lips.

But she was too sleepy to open her eyes or lift a hand. All she could do was stick out her tongue and lick her lips to soothe the bothersome tickle.

Blaze just watched as she frowned in displeasure after being kissed. After a couple of soft, dissatisfied hums, her delicate little tongue darted out.

Faced with such a deadly temptation, Blaze’s eyes darkened. He immediately stood up, putting some distance between himself and the completely oblivious instigator. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Blaze drew the curtains and decided to go downstairs to keep his grandfather company or find something to occupy himself.

Anything was better than staying here and watching over Luna.

He had just reached the bottom of the stairs when Russell Frost called him over. "Blaze, it’s rare that we both have time. Let’s have a chat."

Ethan arrived with the others who had been working, and the charcoal in the backyard grill was already glowing.

Salt, cumin, chili powder, and oil were placed within easy reach, and the ingredients, all prepped in advance, were arranged neatly to one side.

"Wow! You guys are amazing! You got everything ready so perfectly in such a short time."

The moment May Ford walked in, she started happily snapping pictures with her phone. A constant stream of praise flowed from her lips, and everyone’s spirits were high.

A barbecue with everyone together was such a rare occasion! It had to be documented.

"Blaze called some people from the Fairchild Estate over to help. They’re the ones who marinated and skewered all this meat," Jenna Axton explained, positively glowing. Her voice was filled with happiness.

"So I get to start eating the moment I arrive? I really have to thank you all properly." May Ford looked around but didn’t see Luna. "Where’s our precious girl?"

As soon as the Frost family arrived, Blaze started putting meat on the grill.

He was so busy that it didn’t register at first. Only when May Ford came right up to him did he realize that the "precious girl" and "little darling" they were referring to was Luna.

’She really is lovable. Everyone treats her like a treasure.’

"She’s sleeping upstairs. She’s been getting tired very easily lately."

May Ford nodded. "That’s how it is in the third trimester. You get tired and hungry easily."

Blaze glanced at his phone, which he’d set aside. It was about time. "Auntie, could you watch the skewers on the grill? I’ll go get her."

’If Luna sleeps any longer, she probably won’t be able to fall asleep tonight.’

"Blaze," May Ford called out, stopping him.

Blaze, who had already taken a couple of steps, turned back and waited, looking at her quizzically.

Blaze was very tall, so May Ford had to move closer to whisper to him. "Auntie will help you out in a bit. You should take Luna home with you tonight. Staying at our place... well, she’s not cared for as meticulously as at the Fairchild Estate. Luna isn’t sleeping or eating well, and it’s really hard on her."

Both places were Luna’s home. Naturally, she should stay wherever she would be best taken care of.

"Thank you, Auntie."

The words had barely left Blaze’s mouth when he saw her giving him an ’I-know-what-you’re-up-to’ look.

All the way upstairs, Blaze couldn’t get his aunt’s smile out of his head. ’No wonder Luna gets so shy. That suggestive smile of hers is enough to give anyone dirty thoughts.’

’Luna’s in her third trimester, so he didn’t really mind being apart for a night or two. As long as Luna was happy, she could stay wherever she wanted.’

When Luna was woken up, the evening sun was already streaming into the room through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

She lay in bed, watching the tall and long-legged Blaze draw open the curtains.

"I only meant to lie down for a little while. I didn’t expect to fall asleep." Having just woken up, her voice was soft and gentle, making her sound easy to tease.

Blaze sat on the edge of the bed, took both of Luna’s wrists, and pulled her into a sitting position.

"There’s nothing you have to do, so you can sleep if you want. But, your brother and the others are here. The barbecue is officially starting, so you have to get up."

"When Auntie is around later, you’re not allowed to be too close to me." The mere thought of her sister-in-law made Luna feel like she couldn’t do anything freely.

The huge disconnect between her boisterous sister-in-law and the gentle, dignified Ms. Ford from Concordia Medical Hall was a bit too much for her to handle.

To Luna, her sister-in-law was like the dean of discipline from high school. Whenever anything involving Blaze happened, she would instinctively glance at her sister-in-law’s expression.

"Then I’ll get my hug in now," Blaze said, pulling her into an embrace. "You promised I could hold you."

Luna struggled for a moment, but when she heard that, she went still and let him hold her.

She looked away. ’The sunset outside is so beautiful! Today is such a happy day.’

’Everyone’s together, and it’s so lively and cheerful.’

The four men worked in perfect sync, taking turns manning the grill.

May Ford ate with gusto. "Ethan’s is still the most delicious."

Ethan finally reclaimed his moment to shine, a smug look spreading across his face.

Jenna Axton agreed. "Definitely. It’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. That first bite is heavenly."

"Hey now," Mason Frost said, unhappy with his ranking. "Just eat, don’t talk. If you keep this up, I’ll admit I’m terrible, practice a ton, and then you’ll all be stuck eating nothing but my barbecue from now on."

A bowl of lotus root and pork rib soup, a plate of grilled meat, and a glass of juice were placed in front of Luna.

Everyone was watching over her. The moment she finished something, the perfectly grilled next skewer would appear on her plate.

’She was truly experiencing what it felt like to have the entire family watch your every bite.’

’It seemed the feelings she missed out on as a child were all being made up for now that she was grown.’

The two grandfathers sat together, chatting with broad, happy smiles.

"Just eating meat is getting a little plain. How about we have some wine?" Jenna suggested.

"Great idea!" May Ford’s eyes lit up as she happily agreed. "I’ll go get the glasses. Blaze, you..."

Mason’s head throbbed. His wife was always like this—especially boisterous whenever she teamed up with Jenna.

"No drinking. We still have to drive home later." As the eldest brother and a husband, Mason was the first to object.

May Ford shot back, "Just have Ethan not drink. He can drive."

"Why me?" Ethan protested. "You guys get to have all the fun, and I’m almost thirty years old, but I’m still not allowed to drink with you? No way."

He would have just accepted it in the past, but now, seeing how his sister was treated, his "rebellious phase" was kicking in.

May Ford blinked and, out of Mason’s line of sight, gave Ethan a thumbs-up for being such a good "son."

"You can all stay here tonight," Blaze said, seizing the opportunity. "Just drink in moderation, and you can head back tomorrow morning."

’Since they were all here to have a good time, making sure everyone was happy was the most important thing.’

He had already noticed that regardless of whether Mason agreed or not, May had already opened a bottle of Carmine to let it breathe. She had also found the glasses, washed them, and left them on the drying rack.

’There was no way they weren’t drinking tonight.’

"In that case, ’your dad’ isn’t drinking. He can take your grandpa back tonight, since they have to work tomorrow morning. We’ll go back later."

May Ford clapped her hands. "It’s decided then!"

She completely ignored her husband’s protests from behind her. "I’m drinking too! And I’m not going to work tomorrow either!"

The group burst into roaring laughter, causing the two grandfathers to look over.

Theodore Frost looked at his eldest son, Russell. "Well, well. A bunch of them still haven’t grown up. Just the king of the kids playing with the other children."

Julian Fairchild smiled wistfully. "This is how it should be. So lively and cheerful."
