Darkstone Code-Chapter 1033 - 1031: A Heavy Price
"What kind of airplane is that!"
"What did it drop!"
"We strongly request to watch them up close!"
The military observers were bustling outside the runway, hoping to get closer to the runway to observe the parked airplanes.
With their keen senses, they knew that these airplanes would once again push the already cutting-edge aviation technology to new heights.
In fact, the world’s research on airplanes wasn’t sudden, much like submarines.
Before submarines could be used in warfare, countries had already researched them, and the technology for engineering and operational submarines was very mature.
They could perform various tasks in complex underwater environments, but no one had ever thought of using them in the military field.
Individual researchers didn’t have the money to build a full-fledged submarine or multiple submarines to complete this research.
And the military didn’t see any strategic or tactical significance in a submarine that moved slowly underwater, possibly just slightly faster than a human swimming.
By the time it reached the designated combat location, both fleets might have already finished fighting and returned home.
So all countries ignored the enormous value of submarines, not because they didn’t exist or weren’t being researched, but because, in various complex situations, they weren’t the choice of the times.
Just like airplanes.
The research on airplanes has been ongoing for about a hundred years; conquering the skies has always been a human dream.
Fortunately, the cost of researching airplanes wasn’t as enormous as that of submarines. Some wood, some iron or aluminum sheets, and a second-hand car engine were enough to support aviation research.
Like submarines, airplanes lacked effective attack methods, had poor endurance, and their value couldn’t fully be realized.
In the past, someone suggested loading an airplane with grenades and dropping them from above a target.
The idea was good, but not significant. A few grenades couldn’t change the tide of battle, and to drop them accurately, one would have to lower altitude, giving artillery and rifles a good shooting range.
Immature ideas and designs kept it in obscurity until this moment!
Some once fanciful ideas finally began to shine under technological progress as the core condition, driving the military observers insane!
They had gone to the area after the bombing to see the scenes that shocked them to the core!
They couldn’t describe what was there, as if... as if a mighty deity had descended, shattering everything!
People, buildings, and everything else!
They wanted first-hand data on these planes, aiming to obtain their parameters. Even the Gafura military observers sensed the threat they posed!
Flying higher, thinking it’s more concealed.
A massive number of bombs meant their firepower could entirely cover a certain area.
This was just the effect of six bombers; if there were sixty, six hundred, they could fly directly over the main island of Gafura if they were unthreatened...
The faces of Gafura military observers turned pale. These things just needed to circle Gafura’s homeland once, and the Empire would be in big trouble!
Unlike other countries, Gafura’s most notable feature is its higher population density. Industries are highly concentrated, whether in cities or the countryside.
With a large population and various industrial factories, once these critical cities are bombed, Gafura would instantly lose its war potential!
The Gafura military observers protested loudly, "We negotiated with the Federation Government to observe what we want up close; you’re violating the cooperation agreement!"
The soldiers blocked them off the runway, keeping them about... a hundred meters away from those six bombers. If not considering this as a "battlefield" now, he might have tried to sneak in for a closer look at those things.
The soldier stopping him was somewhat impatient, "I’ll repeat again, we are not active-duty personnel from the Federation Army or Navy; we are employees of Darkstone Security, and what you’re seeing is not the Federation Government’s property, it belongs to an individual!"
"Personal property, sacred and inviolable!"
"If you want to observe closely, you’ll need authorization from Mr. Lynch!"
The soldier’s response pushed the Gafura military observer to the brink of collapse. In his eyes, a secret that could extend Gafura’s glory for a century was right there, yet he couldn’t acquire it due to this damned, unyielding private property!
After realizing the futility of his efforts, the Gafura military observer left, intending to report everything he saw here to his country.
The Empire no longer had the luxury of time; the Federation’s technological advancement was too fast, so fast that in just a brief moment, they had completely surpassed Gafura.
Glory was waning, and if they didn’t act quickly, the world might soon be without Gafura!
At two o’clock in the afternoon, after two hours of broadcasting, some civilians left their homes.
At this point, whether they were civilians was no longer important; as long as they weren’t carrying weapons, they were civilians.
This was Lynch’s request; if the Federation Government wanted to maintain a positive image, then give it to them.
As long as they were unarmed, they weren’t enemies, a simple and comprehensible approach, and with these people leaving, and the situation here escalating, it would further spread.
Let more people understand this principle, as long as in dealing with the Federation, without weapons in hand, they wouldn’t be the Federation’s enemy!
After two o’clock, everyone moved to the upwind side, and shortly after, a large number of special shells were fired into the city.
"Just... like that?"
The people standing at the upwind, including the observers, looked at the calm city, bewildered.
The soldiers of Darkstone Security were very well prepared. They not only evacuated the original camp but also required everyone to leave the downwind side, moving to the upwind side of the city.
They found a high point and watched as those special shells landed in the city.
There was no explosion, no smoke pillar, no dust or firelight, nothing, not even the sound of an explosion.
Like a drop of water falling into the sea, it vanished from the people’s sight instantly.
Those who knew the truth didn’t speak; the city was quiet, like a monster lurking in the Abyss, the high and low buildings resembled parasitic growths on its body.
At this moment, several soldiers led over a dozen sheep, wearing masks, as they drove them close to the city, then cracked a whip.
The sudden crackling startled the sheep, causing them to rush into the city. Not even a minute had passed when they still hadn’t completely disappeared from the streets, suddenly falling en masse!
Observers, including engineers dispatched by the special shell manufacturer, all gasped.
Each person had been rendered speechless by today’s constant stream of new developments; the Gafura military observers were now drenched in sweat.
This was the North, where the weather was already cold, yet he was soaked in sweat.
He imagined what would happen if those special shells were air-dropped directly into Gafura’s cities by those planes.
No need for war, no artillery, maintaining the maximum original state of the city and buildings, with everyone lying on the ground!
They didn’t even need to deploy a large military force to occupy a Gafura unscathed by war.
Bombers and gas shells!
He tightly clenched his fist; the next war seems not so easy to fight.
Compared to the nervousness of the Gafura military observer, others appeared quite relaxed.
When Gafura was strong, they clung to Gafura, sending token troops as a gesture.
In the future, if the Federation became strong, at worst they’d cozy up to the Federation. The stronger the Federation appeared now, the happier they were.
Until around six in the evening, the gas on the city’s main roads began to dissipate.
Actually, the concentration of the gas was highest initially during the rapid reaction period of the gas shell, spreading wildly with the circulating air inside the city.
After a period of time, it began to shrink, and four to five hours later, the gas concentration had dropped to levels unlikely to harm humans.
However, the gas concentration inside the buildings near the impact sites remained lethal.
On some streets, soldiers in gas masks found some dead bodies lying by the roadside, those who didn’t leave initially.
They had given up their right to live from that time, and soldiers felt little sympathy for these people.
Because they had lost many of their own, killed by these people.
This kind of hostility is actually very unhealthy, but no one intervenes; during war, countries even support such hostility.
Only soldiers’ hatred of everything here ensured they strictly followed orders without questioning or rebelling.
The engineers dispatched by the gas shell development company collected some corpses to take back to the Federation for dissection and further study.
Meanwhile, others began to settle the wounded.
Darkstone Security suffered heavy losses in this battle; nearly six hundred deaths shocked the entire Ministry of Defense.
This wasn’t the result of confronting some strong army nation; if it were a real army nation, they could accept such a casualty ratio.
They faced a mere group of "small-time" warlords. The people they rallied couldn’t even be called soldiers!
Yet, these people taught them a good lesson in street battles on the front lines!
