Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Come to the Terrace

After dinner, the family gathered in the living room.

The national news was on TV, but the sound of conversation rose and fell, drowning it out.

They were busy chatting, eager to learn about what Luna Axton and Jenna Axton had been through over the past twenty-odd years.

No one paid any mind to the major national and international events mentioned on the news.

The long-awaited family reunion chat only ended when Theodore Frost decided it was time for bed.

Russell Frost and Jenna Axton walked their daughter back to her room. Seeing her much larger belly, they wondered if it would be inconvenient for her to sleep alone at night.

"Sweetheart, how about Mom sleeps with you tonight?" Jenna Axton asked.

"No, it’s okay. I can manage. The bathroom, water, and snacks are all right here. I’ll be fine." Her aunt had thought of everything, her affection for Luna practically overflowing.

The bed in the room wasn’t very large; it would be a bit of a squeeze for two people.

"Besides, my aunt installed a small bell for me. I can just ring it if I need anything."

She could tell her parents were very happy together after getting married. They had talked so much with the family tonight, and she was sure the conversation would continue once the two of them were alone.

She didn’t want to interrupt her parents’ happiness, especially her mother’s. When her mother was happy and content, she felt it too.

Jenna Axton looked at the bed. With Luna’s pregnancy pillow on it, squeezing another person in would be tight.

She had no choice but to agree, resolving to stay alert during the night. "Alright. Just ring the bell if you need anything."

Only after her parents closed the door did she go to the bathroom to wash up.

This place was nothing like Fairchild Estate; in fact, the entire Frost Family property was smaller than Evergreen Manor at Fairchild Estate.

The only difference was that Evergreen Manor was a single-story building, while the Frost home was three stories tall.

But this small house was filled with traces of life in every room, exuding a warmth and care that spoke of a well-kept home.

Compared to the coldness of Fairchild Estate, the Frost Family’s home was much more personal and full of life.

After all the excitement, Luna suddenly felt an inexplicable emptiness in her heart.

’If only Blaze were here.’

’With him here, nothing would need to be said.’

’Just having him by my side would feel so good.’

The thought of Blaze Fairchild made Luna Axton brush her teeth faster.

’What time is it?’

’Is it time for our bedtime story yet?’

’Or did I already miss it?’

Her phone had been charging in her room the whole time; she hadn’t brought it downstairs.

She had been focused on washing up since she got back and hadn’t even thought to check her phone.

After applying face cream, Luna emerged from the bathroom with her anti-stretch mark oil.

She turned on her phone and, just as she’d expected, there was a message from Blaze Fairchild.

[Are you asleep? Or are you still with them?]

The message had been sent two hours ago. She really had missed him.

It was now 11:38 PM, almost midnight.

According to their usual routine, they would both already be asleep in bed by this time.

Luna was afraid Blaze was already asleep, so she suppressed the urge to start a video call.

[I just finished washing up and was about to sleep. My phone was charging upstairs, I forgot.]

Blaze: [Oh.]

’Oh?’

Luna didn’t understand.

’Is that a flat ’oh,’ meaning he just acknowledged it?’

’Or is he angry and doesn’t want to talk to me?’

’He replied instantly. Blaze must still be awake.’

Luna replied: [What are you doing?]

Blaze: [Waiting for you to come back.]

Luna gave a helpless smile. [It hasn’t even been twenty-four hours. It’s a little too soon to talk about coming back.]

Without waiting for Blaze’s reply, she sent the message and immediately started a video call.

Blaze’s side of the screen was completely dark. Her pretty brows furrowed slightly. "If you don’t turn on a light, I can’t see anything."

Blaze said, "It’s enough that I can see you."

Luna covered her camera, turning the screen a dull red. "Then I won’t let you see me either," she threatened.

Her words held no threat at all, and coupled with her playful gesture, they made Blaze laugh out loud.

His laughter came through the phone’s earpiece, seemingly carrying an electric charge that sent a tingle through a certain part of Luna’s heart.

"Are you in bed?" Blaze asked, looking up toward the source of the light.

"I’m on a video call with you, so I’m not in bed yet."

"You..." Blaze hesitated for a moment. He still wanted to see her. "Do you want to see me?"

’We’re already on a video call, how could I not want to see his handsome face?’

But that was just what Luna was thinking; she didn’t have the courage to say it out loud.

"No," she said, though she meant the opposite.

"I want to see you," Blaze stated plainly.

Luna froze for a second.

His gentle words floated down like a feather, like a whisper in her ear, and the emptiness in her heart was instantly filled.

He said he wanted to see her.

Luna silently moved her hand away from the front camera.

The sound of a leather sofa creaking and shifting came from the phone. Luna wondered, ’Is he sitting in the living room at Lakeside Manor?’

The next second, Blaze said, "Put on your shawl and come out to the terrace."

Luna looked up, her gaze falling on the sheer curtains as they stirred gently in the night breeze.

’The terrace.’

’What does Blaze mean?’

’He wants me to go to the terrace... is he downstairs?’

Luna’s heart began to pound. THUMP-THUMP-THUMP. She was getting excited.

She grabbed the shawl from the foot of the bed.

She had originally put it there to throw on during nighttime bathroom trips to keep from catching a chill.

Now it came in handy.

She quickly wrapped herself in it and pushed open the small door to the terrace.

Sweetbriar Lane was empty. All the smaller path lights were out, with only a single, dim yellow streetlight providing illumination every hundred meters.

The Frost home was situated between two of these main lights and was further obscured by sweet osmanthus trees, leaving the entrance almost completely dark.

But tonight was destined to be different.

In the darkness, there was a light. As soon as Luna stepped onto the terrace, she saw it.

The light wavered, illuminating Blaze’s face in fits and starts, his smile appearing and disappearing with it.

A wide grin spread across Luna’s face.

"Should I come down and open the door for you?"

"Do you want the whole family to know I came to see you?" Blaze chuckled, and she could tell he was trying to suppress his laughter to avoid being discovered.

His reminder made Luna remember.

The Frost home was an old villa-style house, and the switch to open the main door was in the living room.

If she went downstairs, she would definitely make some noise.

And the Frosts probably weren’t asleep yet.

If she made a sound, the whole family would know she was going to let Blaze in.

Luna had to give up the idea.

She held the phone to her ear with one hand to hear Blaze clearly, and rested her other hand on the concrete railing as they talked.

"When did you get here?"

"128 minutes and 39 seconds ago."

Luna was slightly stunned. More than two hours.

Blaze had been waiting outside the Frosts’ house for that long, just to see her for a moment.

A wave of guilt instantly washed over Luna.

"I’m so sorry, I didn’t have my phone with me. Otherwise, I would have definitely come out..."
