When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 131: Now That’s a Standard Drake’s Voice
A long time passed after she sent the message, but she still hadn’t heard back from Joy Coleman.
Luna Axton thought, ’Lindsey is probably just busy.’
She still hadn’t received a reply from Joy Coleman by the time she finished dinner.
Lindsey had never gone this long without replying to her messages. No matter how busy she was, she wouldn’t go over three hours without touching her phone. ’Something must have happened.’
Luna Axton instantly panicked, all sorts of possibilities running through her mind.
She didn’t waste any more time and called Lindsey directly.
The phone rang for what felt like an eternity as Luna paced anxiously in her room. Finally, just before it went to voicemail, the call connected.
"Luna."
The moment Joy Coleman spoke, Luna could tell. Lindsey’s voice had completely changed; it was no different from the squawk of the drake in her grandmother’s yard.
"What happened to your voice? Is it just sore, or do you have a cold?"
Joy Coleman didn’t want Luna to know she was sick. If Luna came over, she would definitely get infected. Luna was pregnant; her condition was delicate, and she couldn’t take medication casually.
She cleared her throat, forcing back the pain. "It’s nothing. I’ll be fine after some water."
She wanted to make her voice sound normal, but when she spoke, it was still no different from a duck’s squawk.
"Joy Coleman, I’m a medical student. You can’t fool me. I’m coming over right now." Having grown up together, Luna Axton knew her all too well.
Joy Coleman knew she meant what she said, so she had to tell the truth to try and stop Luna.
"I think I caught a virus. My head is throbbing, and when I talk, not only does my head hurt, but my throat feels like a saw is scraping it. More importantly..."
Joy Coleman paused. There seemed to be a foul stench in the air, like rotten eggs.
Her brow furrowed slightly. ’Did I forget to flush the toilet?’
"More importantly what?" Luna Axton held the phone, so worried she couldn’t wait another second. She had to go find Lindsey right now and take her to the hospital.
From the sounds on Luna’s end, Joy Coleman could already guess that she was getting dressed and grabbing things, preparing to leave. She continued,
"I also have diarrhea. Anything I drink goes right through me. I took some medicine and slept all afternoon. Don’t come over. I’ll call for an ambulance myself and go to the hospital. I promise, I’ll send you a picture as soon as I’m on an IV, for proof."
"I don’t want you going to the hospital alone," Luna Axton refused.
Going to see a doctor and getting tests done alone wasn’t convenient at all. It was also lonely and pitiful.
Besides, with Lindsey’s symptoms, she would need a stool test.
The thought of Lindsey dragging her feverish body through the hospital floors to deliver a sample made her heart ache.
"Where are you going?" Blaze Fairchild was in the study reading a proposal when he heard her talking and came over to see.
Luna Axton found the key to Joy Coleman’s place in the nightstand drawer. "Lindsey is sick. I’m going to check on her."
"What kind of sickness?" Blaze Fairchild was so cautious that he checked everything she ate, let alone let her come into contact with a sick person. He definitely couldn’t let Luna go if it was a contagious disease.
"A viral flu with symptoms of diarrhea."
Luna Axton knew Blaze Fairchild wouldn’t let her go, but she couldn’t let Lindsey go to the hospital alone just because she was pregnant. Difficulties could be overcome, and besides, she was a medical student.
"I’ll take precautions, wear a mask and gloves, and disinfect often."
Her glistening, limpid eyes were full of pleading.
Blaze Fairchild’s heart softened. "Wait for me. I’ll change, and we’ll go together."
"No, don’t!" Joy Coleman, on the other end of the line, heard the couple’s conversation and strongly objected.
’The CEO is coming? Is there any saving my reputation? If the CEO sees the state of my apartment, he’ll probably question my competence at work, won’t he?’
"Luna, I’m calling for an ambulance right now. Let’s meet at the hospital. Don’t come to my place."
But Luna was stubborn. "I don’t trust you. You’ve been lying at home for this long without calling for an ambulance. I need to personally see you go to the hospital and get your treatment before I can rest easy."
Blaze Fairchild got the protective gear ready, then went to drive the car to Lakeside Manor to pick up Luna.
Their car hadn’t even reached the Fairchild Estate’s main gate when the massive gate began to slowly open.
Luna Axton was puzzled. ’How did the security staff know she was in a hurry to leave?’
As the gate slowly opened, a car eagerly squeezed its way in.
In the light from the lamps lining the road, Luna Axton noticed that the person in the driver’s seat was Wyatt Kingston.
Wyatt Kingston saw the two of them about to leave as well. He stopped his Bentley in front of Blaze Fairchild’s car, blocking their way, and stuck his head out. "Where are you two going?"
Blaze Fairchild wasn’t sure whether to tell Wyatt Kingston and glanced at Luna beside him, seeking her opinion.
Luna Axton shook her head. ’Lindsey is already sick; it’s better not to let Wyatt go over. It would only make Lindsey’s headache worse.’
"We’re heading out for something urgent," Blaze Fairchild said evasively.
Wyatt Kingston saw that his sister-in-law, who usually sat in the back, was actually in the passenger seat. Both of them were wearing masks. ’Is Grandpa Fairchild sick?’
’That would be serious. No time to waste.’
Thinking this, he immediately pulled his car to the side to clear the way.
As Blaze Fairchild’s car drove out, Wyatt turned his car around and followed closely behind.
’He still remembered Grandpa Fairchild getting sick before the New Year. Once old folks have a health scare that lands them in the hospital, they have a tendency to end up back there often.’
’With his sister-in-law pregnant, Ian would definitely have his hands full on his own.’
’If he followed, he could help run errands and lend a hand.’
Blaze Fairchild’s car drove for a long time. Luna Axton kept worrying about Joy Coleman’s condition. ’Could she have gotten dehydrated from the diarrhea?’
Suddenly, she heard Blaze Fairchild say, "Wyatt is following us."
Luna Axton’s gaze fell on the rearview mirror. The blue car was indeed behind them.
"We’re almost at Lindsey’s place. He’s dropped her off before, so he’s probably already guessed we’re going to see her..."
Before Luna Axton could finish her sentence, she saw Joy Coleman standing on the side of the road.
It was a balmy spring day and the temperature had warmed up, but Lindsey was still wrapped in a long trench coat, the hood of the hoodie she wore underneath pulled over her head.
It was clear that Lindsey was feeling very cold, probably feverish with chills.
’I told her to wait at home, but she came downstairs on her own instead.’
The moment Blaze Fairchild’s car came to a steady stop, Luna didn’t wait for him to open her door and pushed it open herself.
As soon as Luna Axton got out of the car, she met Joy Coleman’s eyes, which were red and teary from the fever, and saw her dry, peeling lips. No matter how angry she was, she couldn’t bring herself to say a single word of blame.
Her heart ached for her, and her movements became much gentler as she took Lindsey’s arm. "Let’s go to the hospital."
Blaze Fairchild had already opened the rear car door, his hand hovering over the frame to prevent Luna and Joy Coleman from hitting their heads.
Luna Axton had only taken a few steps while supporting Joy Coleman when Wyatt Kingston rushed up.
Without a word, he bent down, wrapped his arms around Joy Coleman’s back and the crooks of her knees, and lifted the unsuspecting woman right off the ground.
The sudden action startled Joy Coleman, who rasped out in displeasure, "What are you doing?"
Being held by Wyatt Kingston like this, Joy Coleman felt her brain throb, the pain making her scalp tingle. Her muscles were sore all over, and she almost lost control of her anal sphincter.
"HAHAHA~ Now *that’s* a proper drake’s squawk!"
Wyatt Kingston’s smile vanished the moment he saw Joy Coleman’s lips pressed into a thin line. He adopted a serious tone.
"Our sister-in-law is pregnant. Do you want to get her sick? It’s safer to ride in my car."
Joy Coleman’s eyes shifted to Luna’s abdomen. ’That was Lucky, the baby everyone was looking forward to.’
Reluctantly, she could only go along with Wyatt Kingston. "Thank you, Mr. Kingston."
"Hmph. At least you have a conscience," Wyatt Kingston said, turning and walking toward his car with her in his arms.
’After staring at Ian’s taillights this whole time, it was finally his turn to drive in front.’
The blue Bentley drove past Blaze Fairchild’s car, a command echoing from inside, "Keep up with me!"
The tone was practically bursting with triumph.
Luna Axton watched the car speed off, her eye twitching.
’Was she making a mistake letting Wyatt Kingston take Lindsey away? Was she just making things worse for her friend?’
Inside the Bentley.
Wyatt Kingston was driving fast, but the ride was still relatively smooth.
Suddenly, he swerved to change lanes, and Lindsey’s stomach churned. Luckily, the diarrhea had left her stomach empty, so there was nothing left to throw up.
She held her head in her hands, leaning weakly against the window. "Slow down. You’re changing lanes too fast. My head hurts."
After that short sentence, Joy Coleman’s throat hurt so much she wanted to reach in and claw it out.
’So painful! This is unbearable!’
"If I drive faster, we’ll get to the hospital sooner. Once the doctor gives you some medicine, it won’t hurt anymore." Wyatt Kingston had his reasons.
’Joy Coleman was so dizzy from enduring the pain, she honestly couldn’t tell if Wyatt Kingston was trying to save her or just send her to an early grave.’
Her throat hurt too much to speak, so she could only pound on the car door with her fist, trying to force Wyatt Kingston to slow down.
"Don’t be rash! Don’t jump out! I’ll slow down, okay?" Wyatt Kingston misunderstood her, but it was a fortunate mistake, as he obediently reduced the car’s speed.
The Bentley drove steadily down the road. Once the ride smoothed out, Joy Coleman felt the splitting headache ease a little.
After a smooth drive to the hospital, Wyatt Kingston wordlessly carried her straight into the emergency room.
The ER was bustling in the early evening. There wasn’t a single seat, nor were there any empty wheelchairs, so Wyatt Kingston stood by the emergency room entrance, still holding her.
Blaze Fairchild and Luna Axton went to register.
Joy Coleman looked up at Wyatt Kingston. She could see the taut line of his jaw against his smooth skin. ’His stamina must be running out,’ she thought.
There were no empty chairs nearby. Her throat hurt, but thankfully they were close enough that she could manage a nasal "Mr. Kingston, you can put me down. I can stand."
"Stay like this," Wyatt Kingston insisted.
’I finally got her in my arms. No way am I putting her down!’
"Your hands are digging into my legs. It hurts," said Joy Coleman.
Wyatt Kingston looked down. Sure enough, to support her weight, his fingers were clamped tightly around the backs of her knees. "Then I’ll carry you on my back. You can lean on my shoulder."
Joy Coleman was at her wit’s end. She tapped his back and, enduring the pain in her throat, spoke up.
"Wyatt Kingston, I want to stand! Just stand! Can you please just listen to what I’m saying?!"
What Ian had said that morning suddenly echoed in his ears.
If you really like her, you should love her in a way she can accept.
’Right. He should listen to what she wants.’
Wyatt Kingston squatted down and gently placed her on the ground. "I’m sorry."
Joy Coleman found this apology baffling.
Her surprised gaze fell on Wyatt Kingston’s face. He was still looking straight ahead, staring at the waiting list on the screen.
Joy Coleman didn’t understand. ’Why was he suddenly so agreeable? And he even apologized. Was I too harsh just now?’
Before she could ponder it further, the announcement system was already calling out, "Next patient, Joy Coleman."
’She didn’t want Wyatt Kingston to go in with her. If he found out she had a cold *and* diarrhea, he would definitely laugh at her. She wasn’t about to give him that opportunity.’
"I’ll go in by myself in a minute. You wait here for Luna and the others."
As she spoke again, Joy Coleman felt as if her lips were sticking to her gums, her mouth was so uncomfortably dry.
Wyatt Kingston glanced at her face, his gaze landing on her pale, chapped lips. He agreed. "Okay. I’ll walk you to the door."
’Joy Coleman was suspicious. The man in front of her seemed a little different from the Wyatt Kingston she’d been dealing with recently.’
After a few more minutes, the previous patient came out holding a lab request form from the doctor.
Wyatt Kingston was true to his word. He waited for her to go in, then pulled the door closed without following.
Inside the consultation room, the doctor asked about her condition in detail.
He diagnosed her with dehydration from diarrhea and prescribed fluids to replenish electrolytes and ordered tests. He told her to go get an IV for rehydration right after her blood draw, and to do the stool test if she could, or wait if she couldn’t.
