When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 132: Who Asked Your Little Sister to Capture My Heart?
In the ER observation room, Luna Axton looked around. There wasn’t a single empty bed.
She looked over and saw Joy sitting in a chair, her eyes filled with worry.
The nurse had also given Joy an injection, and she was sure to break a sweat soon.
’I need to get a change of clothes for Joy. Otherwise, if she leaves in sweat-drenched clothes, she’ll catch a chill as soon as the wind hits her.’
Joy Coleman hadn’t brought her thermos or a small blanket when she left.
’The situation being what it was, they’d have to handle it themselves.’
But Blaze Fairchild wouldn’t be comfortable with her driving alone.
’The only option was to ask Wyatt Kingston to stay here and watch over Joy while she and Blaze Fairchild went to get her things.’
Wyatt Kingston looked at Joy Coleman, who was hooked up to an IV and growing drowsy again from the medication.
He offered, "I’ll go. If she needs to use the restroom or something, it’ll be more convenient with you here, Luna."
’He’d been doing as he pleased, free and unrestrained, for over twenty years. Suddenly being asked to see things from someone else’s perspective was a bit of a shock to his system. He was afraid if he stayed, his good intentions might backfire and he’d just end up annoying her.’
Under the circumstances, Luna Axton could only focus on getting things done first and worry about the rest later.
She handed the spare key Joy Coleman had left with her to Wyatt Kingston. "Joy lives in Building 7, apartment 707. Thank you, Mr. Kingston."
A single room had opened up in the Evergrow Group’s employee dorms after the New Year, so Joy Coleman had moved out of her rental and into the dorm.
Since Joy Coleman lived alone, she worried she might lose her key, so she had left a spare with Luna.
Wyatt Kingston took the key, intending to make it a quick trip.
When he arrived, he had to show the key to the security guard to explain his presence before being allowed inside.
Walking through the residential complex, Wyatt Kingston began to understand why the Fairchild family’s Evergrow Group was so successful.
’It wasn’t just that the Fairchilds were doing well; the people who worked for Evergrow Group were living well, too.’
The complex where Joy Coleman lived was employee housing, built on land purchased by Evergrow Group. Its innovative design, green spaces, and security were all on par with a luxury condominium.
Evergrow Group’s commitment to its employees was second to none.
’You could almost say that once you started working for Evergrow Group, all you had to do for the rest of your life was dedicate yourself to the company. As for the pressures of daily life, Evergrow Group’s various policies would help you resolve them.’
’His old man was always telling him and the rest of the Kingston family that they should learn from Blaze Fairchild, the CEO of Evergrow Group.’
’Now, he couldn’t agree with his old man more.’
’Ian was a cold, aloof person who rarely showed any expression.’
’But this same reserved man treated everyone at Evergrow Group as if they were his own family.’
’Having someone as gentle and good-natured as Luna by his side was something Ian deserved—a reward from the heavens.’
’Joy Coleman was right, too. Everyone likes someone who is responsible and dependable.’
’He would change. He would become a reliable person, too.’
As Wyatt Kingston was thinking this, the elevator arrived at the seventh floor.
Rooms lined both sides of the long corridor, laid out much like a standard hotel.
’This must be the dorm for single employees.’
As he inserted the key and turned it in the lock, Wyatt Kingston froze.
It was his first time entering a girl’s room, and he was nervous.
After taking a few seconds to compose himself, he pressed the handle and pushed the door open.
The room was dim. Directly opposite the door was a floor-to-ceiling window that framed a view of Valoria’s bustling, unique cityscape.
The window was open, and a breeze drifted in, making the sheer curtains flutter and lending the room a tranquil air.
He had to use his phone’s flashlight to find the light switch.
The moment the lights flickered on, Wyatt Kingston was stunned by the sight before him.
"Oh my god... this is..." ’What’s the difference between this and a pigsty?’
He swallowed the rest of his words, suddenly afraid that Joy Coleman might have a security camera that would record his shock.
The bathroom, kitchenette, and washing machine were situated on either side of the entrance.
A pot with dried-up porridge sat unwashed on the stove, and the sink was piled high with bowls, spoons, and a mug stained with the dregs of some medicine.
In the living area, a loveseat was heaped with a crumpled pile of clothes and small blankets, while a few pieces of women’s work attire were scattered on the floor.
Behind the sofa was a messy bed, and the small closet was an even more horrifying sight.
Most people, upon seeing a space that looked like a disaster zone, would probably shake their heads in disgust.
But Wyatt Kingston was the exact opposite.
Raised by a mother who was a professional dancer, he was meticulous about his appearance and also happened to be very good at organizing and tidying.
His favorite chores were folding clothes and rolling socks.
He got a huge sense of accomplishment from seeing messy piles of clothes become neat and tidy stacks.
’He was starting to understand why Joy Coleman had waited downstairs for Luna and the others instead of letting them come up.’
’She must know that she couldn’t let anyone see her place like this.’
Wyatt Kingston rolled up his sleeves. After a few trips back and forth, he had stuffed the dirty clothes from the living area into the washing machine, cleared the trash from the small table, and run the vacuum.
After a quick tidying, the sofa was at least clear enough for Joy Coleman to lie on when she got back.
Time was running out. Rummaging through the treasure trove in the closet, Wyatt Kingston found a change of clothes and a small, pink winter blanket.
As he was leaving, he picked up the now-clean thermos he had filled with hot water. His gaze landed on a corner of the kitchen, and he said excitedly:
"Just you wait, I’ll be back tonight to take care of you all. PEW~ PEW~"
When Wyatt Kingston returned to the hospital, Luna Axton looked at the items in his hands and praised him, satisfied. "Wow, Mr. Kingston, you got everything."
For once, Wyatt Kingston looked shy, even scratching the back of his head.
’When Mr. Kingston took a long time to return, she’d started to worry he was proving to be unreliable.’
Blaze Fairchild had said, "When it comes to things like packing and organizing, he’s actually very good."
It seemed her worries had been for nothing.
As the IV drip continued, Joy Coleman began to sweat. Luna Axton draped the small blanket over her and had just grabbed a tissue to wipe her forehead.
Joy Coleman’s eyes fluttered open. "Luna, I’m thirsty."
Wyatt Kingston immediately popped open the lid on the thermos and held it out.
He had specifically washed a thermos with a straw to make it easier for her to drink.
Seeing Wyatt Kingston in front of her, Joy Coleman froze, showing no intention of taking a drink.
Luna Axton explained, "I stayed here to look after you. Mr. Kingston went back to get your things."
"I washed the thermos," Wyatt Kingston added, mainly because he was afraid she’d think he was using this as an opportunity to mess with her.
Only then did Joy Coleman lean over for a sip. After she finished, she looked at Wyatt Kingston and Luna Axton. "Thank you, Luna."
’Thanks,’ Wyatt Kingston’s lips curled into a smile. ’I’ll just pretend she said it to me, too.’
After she drank, Luna Axton sat back down beside Joy Coleman, about to let Joy rest her head on her shoulder. But Joy said, "Luna, I’m feeling much better. You should keep your distance. If you get sick, the consequences could be serious."
Joy Coleman had heard that some viruses could cause a miscarriage.
Wyatt Kingston’s sharp eyes darted a glance at Blaze Fairchild, then snuck a peek at Joy Coleman. ’My chance has come.’
"Luna, let me. I’m tall, unmarried, and perfect for the job of being her pillow."
’Unmarried? Wasn’t that a little jab at Blaze Fairchild?’
The corner of Blaze Fairchild’s mouth twitched. He refused to look at his friend’s dopey grin.
Luna Axton asked, "Joy, is that okay?"
Joy Coleman lifted her heavy eyelids. "If he’s not afraid of getting sick, let him."
Wyatt Kingston beamed and slid into the seat.
None of the four spoke again in the infusion room, and before they knew it, it was 11:00 PM.
Luna Axton and Blaze Fairchild were sitting on a bench in the hallway. Yawning nonstop, she finally had to get up and walk around to shake off her drowsiness.
Blaze Fairchild knew how loyal she was and how much she cared for Attorney Coleman. He also knew she wouldn’t be able to rest properly at home until she saw Joy on the road to recovery, so he didn’t try to persuade her to leave.
He got up to find the nurse on duty, who looked like she had a headache the moment she saw him approaching.
Before he could even open his mouth, the nurse said, "Mr. Fairchild, there are still no empty beds. It’s that time of year—if people aren’t careful about dressing for the changing weather, they catch a cold."
Blaze Fairchild’s cool gaze swept across the partitioned infusion bays, noting that more than half were occupied by children.
Some of the children who couldn’t get a bed were so sleepy they had to be held by their parents while receiving their IV drips.
When some parents got tired of sitting, the father would walk the child back and forth across the room while the mother followed behind, holding the IV bag.
Everyone taking care of the sick was exhausted.
"I understand." Blaze Fairchild’s long fingers curled into a fist. ’He was already thinking about investing in the hospital’s expansion.’
Joy Coleman’s IV drip didn’t finish until the early hours of the morning.
At one point, she had to use the restroom, and Luna helped by carrying the IV bag for her.
In that short amount of time, blood backed up into the IV tube, and the needle site swelled up badly.
The nurse said the IV had infiltrated and had to reinsert the needle, which caused a further delay.
When they dropped Joy Coleman off at the entrance to her dorm complex, she absolutely refused to let Luna Axton come upstairs.
Wyatt Kingston, knowing what she was thinking, chimed in to support her.
"Ian, you should take Luna home. She has classes tomorrow. I can take care of Joy Coleman."
Luna Axton looked uncertainly at Joy Coleman’s face. When she saw that Joy didn’t object, she agreed to Wyatt Kingston’s plan.
Wyatt Kingston said, "Don’t worry, Luna. I promise I’ll take good care of your friend until she’s completely recovered."
Luna Axton wasn’t entirely convinced. The gloating expression on Wyatt Kingston’s face was a little too obvious.
’Still, Wyatt Kingston liked Joy so much.’
’If it weren’t for Joy’s cold, and if it weren’t for her own pregnancy, would Wyatt Kingston even have this chance?’
’It just wasn’t fair. Even if fate wanted to help Wyatt Kingston, it shouldn’t have been at the cost of Joy getting sick.’
Luna Axton’s heart ached as she looked at Joy, who was usually so lively and talkative, now bundled up tightly and completely listless from her illness.
The doctor said she would need an IV for three consecutive days.
"I’ll come over to keep you company during your IV after my classes tomorrow. I’ll have Mrs. Creed bring you some porridge in the morning, so make sure you open the door."
"Luna, you can leave the caregiving to me, rest assured. I swear on my twenty-plus years of friendship with Ian that I’ll have your friend nursed back to being plump and rosy-cheeked."
Luna Axton couldn’t help but laugh.
Joy Coleman craned her neck to glare at him. If she had any strength at all, she would have kicked him.
Blaze Fairchild turned away, no longer wanting to acknowledge this friend who would ditch his bros for a girl.
Luna Axton pursed her lips. "I have my reservations, but... still, thank you, Mr. Kingston."
Wyatt Kingston raised an eyebrow. "What can I say? Your friend has completely captured my heart."
’Luna was taken aback. Wyatt Kingston was so blunt about his feelings for Joy.’
Her gaze shifted, and she glanced cautiously at Blaze Fairchild standing beside her.
