When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 106: Stop Busying Yourself, Look at Me
The street gradually grew familiar. The old place was her university.
When she started university, her second brother was already working. She majored in English education.
University was the first time she lived away from home in a dorm. She could only go home on Fridays, and even then, she had to ask her academic advisor for leave each time.
She couldn’t get used to the school’s food, nor could she sleep well.
After finishing his work, her second brother would bring her food every night at eight and chat with her for a while.
She would also time it perfectly, leaving the study hall to wait for him at their usual spot for a late-night snack.
Throughout her entire transitional freshman year, her second brother was the one who accompanied her, traveling back and forth between home and the university every day.
It was also during that time that a naive her first understood her feelings for her second brother.
She knew very well in her heart that her feelings for her big brother and her second brother were different.
A simple pat on the head from her big brother would make her happy. But when her second brother did it, beyond the happiness, there was an added layer of nervousness and caution.
She would even start overthinking things. ’Is my hair greasy? Does it smell? Will he be grossed out by me?’
After realizing her feelings, she let herself go for a while, allowing her affection to run wild.
But later, she felt that her love was a profanity against her second brother, who was as graceful as a celestial being—handsome, elegant, and noble.
Time and again, she would lose herself in his care, only to be tormented by guilt over her improper feelings.
She was like a drowning person, trying to save herself each time but failing again and again, only to surface once more, struggling endlessly...
Every time she told herself to control her emotions, she failed.
She loved her second brother’s smile, the corners of his lips when he spoke gently, and even more, the doting look in his eyes when he gazed at her.
All those beautiful bubbles, those bittersweet feelings, were utterly shattered after that glass of water from Rosalind Fairchild.
Her secret crush was like a balloon floating in the air.
"POP~"
Rosalind Fairchild had popped it. Everything happened so suddenly that it caught her completely off guard.
She hated Rosalind Fairchild for drugging her, but in truth, she hated herself even more.
That traitorous heart of hers would always beat for her second brother.
It was as if her second brother had a magnet on him. Whenever he appeared, her heart would pound against her ribs as if trying to burst out of her chest.
Just like now. He was wearing a black down jacket, and merely by standing there, he made her heart race.
Jenna Axton clearly saw Russell Frost, but she didn’t stop the car.
Under the cover of night, she drove to the other side of the campus.
Jenna Axton parked the car. There were still twenty minutes until their appointed time of eight o’clock.
She didn’t get out. She just sat in the car, surrounded by silence.
She could clearly hear her own heartbeat and feel the dryness in her throat, a desperate need for water.
On the days they didn’t meet, she could hold back, could stop herself from looking at any news about him.
She could even remain calm when she occasionally encountered an article related to Russell Frost in an English reading comprehension exercise.
But now, at the moment of their reunion after twenty-three years, she suddenly felt timid.
’I’m not sure... Will I lose control and blurt everything out?’
Jenna Axton’s eyes glazed over as she stared blankly ahead.
Time ticked by, each second stretched by her inner turmoil.
Finally, the moment she had to face had arrived.
She pushed the door open and got out. The instant she closed the door and turned around, she froze, her breath catching in her throat.
In the freezing night, a figure stood under a dim, yellow streetlight.
His posture was impeccable, his back as straight as a pine tree. The lamplight cast a soft halo around him.
When she looked at him, a smile graced his face.
He was the very picture of refined integrity.
’How long has he been standing there?’
Jenna Axton forced a panicked smile. "S-Second Brother, what are you doing here?"
Russell Frost stepped forward. "I saw your car drive over."
’The streetlights around here are so dim. How could he see that I was the one driving?’
"What?" Jenna Axton instinctively stepped back, wanting to run.
But she quickly realized how evasive she was being and stopped, standing her ground and waiting for him to approach.
"The university’s students and faculty are all on break, and there are no residential areas nearby. Who would come here for no reason?"
Russell Frost stood before her; she barely reached his shoulder.
’This is good, though. I don’t have to lie while looking him in the eye, so it’ll be harder for him to see through me.’
Jenna Axton understood.
In her hurry, the only place she could think of that was connected to him was here. She had forgotten that all the students would be home for winter break.
The area was deserted and cold. The two of them stood out starkly.
’The surveillance cameras along the way must have recorded everything.’
’If Second Brother wanted to investigate something, my car being the only one around would make it impossible to blend into traffic and throw him off.’
It was New Year’s Eve, so not many shops were open. Everyone was busy with family reunions, but there were still some places in business.
"Let’s go down the hill and find a place to get a drink."
"Is that convenient for you?" Russell Frost probed, his words holding a hidden meaning.
Jenna Axton didn’t catch his implication and feigned a calm smile. "It’s not inconvenient at all."
The two got into the car, with Jenna Axton driving.
Compared to Jenna Axton’s forced composure, Russell Frost appeared remarkably calm.
Russell Frost sat in the passenger seat, his body angled slightly as his gaze remained fixed on Jenna Axton.
Under such an intense stare, Jenna Axton could only dare to look straight ahead.
She was afraid that if their eyes met, her resolve would crumble.
After driving down the small hill and crossing a three-lane, two-way bridge, they reached the city proper, where cars and people finally appeared on the streets.
While waiting at a red light, Jenna Axton took out her phone to look at it, then rummaged through her bag for a tissue to wipe her hands.
She was keeping herself busy, a fact she hadn’t even realized herself.
Russell Frost didn’t call her out, his gaze unwavering.
Jenna Axton couldn’t keep up the act any longer and found a nearby teahouse.
Upon entering, she immediately booked a small private room, planning to have some hot tea and snacks.
They had just taken off their coats and sat down when Russell Frost suddenly asked, "Adriana, why don’t you dare to look at me?"
Jenna Axton looked up, forcing her gaze toward the man across from her as if to prove a point. "Second Brother, I was driving just now."
Russell Frost smiled. "Adriana, you practically grew up under my care. I know you too well."
Her facade about to be shattered, Jenna Axton cut him off with a look of resignation. "I really was driving. I can’t do two things at once, you know that."
"What I mean is, I’ve never used my wits to analyze you, but I’ve spent twenty-three years mulling it over. I think I know what’s in your heart." Russell Frost forcefully steered the conversation back on track.
Jenna Axton didn’t answer him. Instead, she poured water to warm the cups, beginning the preparations for tea. "Aged Tangerine Peel White Tea or Nine Bend Crimson Plum?"
Russell Frost glanced at the white porcelain gaiwan by his hand. "Nine Bend Crimson Plum, please."
After answering her, he added, "I was just on a business trip back then. I left you a note telling you to wait for me to get back if anything happened, that it would be a month at most. Why were you gone when I returned?"
"Really? I didn’t notice." As she spoke, with a SCRAPE, a match flared to life, illuminating her smooth cheek.
She lit a stick of incense that was set to the side, and a wisp of fragrance drifted through the air with the thin smoke.
"Adriana Frost, stop fiddling around. Look at me."
Russell Frost’s voice was stern, the suppressed anger in it threatening to erupt from his heart at any moment.
"Everything about your behavior today tells me you haven’t let it go."
Jenna Axton’s elegant brows twitched. She shook her head in denial. "No, you’ll always be my second brother."
"We’ve already slept together. How can I still be your brother?"
