Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 154: How the Child Was Conceived
"Mommy’s here!" Elle exclaimed in delight. He threw down his Legos and ran out. "I’m going to see Mommy!"
A sudden emptiness hollowed out Vivian Quinn’s heart, as if a piece of her that had just been made whole was brutally gouged out again.
"It’s all right, ma’am," Nanny Jenner said, thinking Vivian was jealous over Jett Sterling. "If the Young Master truly wanted something with her, it would have happened long ago. Since it didn’t, no matter how many children she has, she can’t threaten the relationship between you and him."
"I know." Vivian Quinn managed a smile. "I won’t dwell on it. Let’s go. We should go down and see what’s happening."
"Alright."
When Vivian Quinn got downstairs, Elle was enthusiastically telling Shirley Wentworth all about his time at Sycamore Bay.
"Mommy, this place is so much fun! There’s lots of yummy food, Daddy is really mean, Grandma is really pretty, and Vivian is even prettier."
Shirley Wentworth watched him with a gentle expression. "It seems Elle is adapting well to life here."
"Yup!"
Wendy Reeves spoke up. "Shirley, honestly. How could you keep your pregnancy with Jett’s child such a secret? You even gave birth to him in secret. Because of you, I’ve only just met my grandson..."
Shirley Wentworth hugged Elle tightly. "Mrs. Sterling, I’m sorry. This child was unexpected. It took a great deal of resolve for me to decide to keep him."
"Honestly. If you had spoken up sooner, Elle could have grown up in a complete family instead of suffering so much."
"I haven’t let him suffer," Shirley Wentworth said. "I’ve always given him the best life possible."
"I’m not talking about material things. Of course the Wentworth Family isn’t lacking in that department. I’m talking about emotionally. A child should live with his mother and father to be healthy in mind and spirit."
Vivian Quinn had known Wendy Reeves’s stance ever since Elle appeared, but hearing her say such things to her face was still humiliating.
"Mom, have you said enough?" Jett Sterling shot a warning glance at Wendy Reeves. "If you insist on humiliating Vivian in front of an outsider, don’t blame me for not showing you any respect."
Vivian Quinn felt a sting in her nose, and tears nearly fell.
Only then did Wendy Reeves resentfully shut her mouth.
"Jett, don’t be angry. I just came today to bring some things for Elle." Shirley Wentworth pointed to the suitcase beside her. "Even though he’s only staying for a short while, children need a lot of things. I thought it would be better if I brought them over to save you the expense."
Jett Sterling said nothing, but Wendy Reeves jumped in. "Who says my Elle is only staying for two weeks? Shirley, since you’re here, let’s get this straight. You secretly gave birth to Jett’s child behind our backs and kept us completely in the dark. I can overlook that. But Elle is a Sterling, and he must stay with the Sterling Family."
"Mrs. Sterling, I think you’ve misunderstood," Shirley Wentworth said gently, a smile on her face. "Elle is mine. Besides, Jett never wanted him."
"Jett may not want him, but I do! I will absolutely not allow the flesh and blood of the Sterling Family to be left out in the world!"
Shirley Wentworth smiled. "Mrs. Sterling, Elle may only be two and a half, but he takes after Jett in intelligence. His IQ is above average. He understands everything we’re saying, so I’d rather we not discuss these matters in front of him."
"That’s easily solved." Wendy Reeves was clearly not ready to drop the subject. "Nanny Jenner, take Elle to play for a bit."
"Yes, ma’am." Nanny Jenner quickly picked up Elle and left.
Only then did Wendy Reeves continue, feeling more at ease. "Shirley, the Sterling and Wentworth families have been feuding for decades. I heard Jett’s uncle fell in love with your aunt, but they were torn apart because the enmity between our families ran too deep. It just goes to show how irreconcilable the hatred between us is."
"I love Elle with all my heart. I dote on him so much I would give my life for him. So, when it comes to this, it would be best if the Wentworth Family willingly gives the child to the Sterlings. If you’re not willing, I will absolutely not back down. Jett doesn’t want the child, but I do. I may be a homebody, but I still have connections and resources. Even without Jett’s help, I can still take on the Wentworth Family."
"Mrs. Sterling, you’re being too serious," Shirley Wentworth said politely. "If I didn’t want Elle to acknowledge Jett as his father, I never would have brought him here. My only wish is for Elle to grow up in a healthy environment."
"A child psychologist advised that Elle needs to interact with his father and benefit from his guidance. So, if Jett is amenable, I plan to settle in Aethelgard. I hope Elle can spend a certain amount of time living with Jett each month. As for the specific duration, we can negotiate that."
Wendy Reeves’s face lit up. "Shirley, I didn’t realize you were so reasonable. You truly are a lady from a respectable family. It’s wonderful that you think this way. I promise you, as long as it’s for Elle’s good, we will cooperate completely."
"Who agreed to this arrangement?" Jett Sterling looked coolly at Shirley Wentworth. "Have you forgotten what I told you earlier today? I said that in two weeks, you either leave the child and disappear, or you take the child and disappear with him."
The smile on Shirley Wentworth’s face froze. "Jett, are you really that heartless? Is it because of your wife?"
Vivian Quinn: "..." ’Why am I always the one getting caught in the crossfire!’
Shirley Wentworth nodded as if she’d had a sudden epiphany. "That makes sense. You two are newlyweds, still in your honeymoon phase. How could you possibly ignore her pillow talk? You’ve always been so punctual, yet when I tried to talk to you this morning about something as important as Elle, you just ignored it to go shopping with your wife. That’s not like you at all. It seems marriage really does change a person."
"What?" Wendy Reeves glared at Vivian Quinn, displeased. "Is there anything more important than Elle right now? How could you be in the mood to ask Jett to take you shopping? Have you lost your mind?"
Jett Sterling’s face was cold as he warned, "Mom, if you dare to slander Vivian again without getting your facts straight, you can leave Sycamore Bay."
"Jett, you..."
Jett Sterling cut her off. "Can’t you see she’s saying these things on purpose? She’s trying to provoke you and drive a wedge between you and Vivian."
Vivian Quinn froze. She’d felt something was off about Shirley’s words, but she never expected Jett to have such a keen ability to spot a ’green tea bitch’!
Shirley Wentworth’s expression turned sour. "Jett, how can you accuse me like that? What good would it do me to drive them apart?"
"You’ll have to ask yourself that."
Shirley Wentworth was so angry her face turned pale. "Regardless, I’m still the biological mother of your child. Must you humiliate me like this?"
"Losing your patience already? Starting to use the child to emotionally blackmail me this soon?" Jett Sterling gave a faint smile. "Shirley, for Elle’s sake, I’ve been giving you a chance to come clean, but you haven’t taken it. Since that’s the case, don’t blame me for what comes next. What happened that night over three years ago... how you got pregnant with Elle... do you really think I can’t find out?" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
The color drained from Shirley Wentworth’s face instantly.
