Chapter 155: Chapter 155: The Hidden Story

Vivian Quinn could clearly sense the tense atmosphere. She looked at the man beside her with curiosity.

’Looks like there’s more to this story!’

"Jett, what’s going on?" Wendy Reeves asked curiously. "I thought you two had Elle because of an accident."

"It was an accident, yes, but *how* that accident happened is another matter entirely." Jett Sterling’s piercing gaze locked onto Shirley Wentworth’s face, his eyes radiating a cold chill as he questioned her, "I didn’t know it was you that night, but you knew it was me. Did it never occur to you that I would become suspicious? Or did you think that after so much time, it would be impossible for me to find out the truth?"

Shirley Wentworth’s lips tightened into a thin line, her hands clenched into fists. It was impossible to tell what she was thinking.

"It seems you’re still unwilling to talk," Jett Sterling said coolly. "Easton Rivers, you tell us." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Easton Rivers, who had been waiting to the side, took two steps forward and began, "Miss Wentworth, when I investigated after the incident, I discovered all the surveillance cameras at The Oakhaven Hotel had been destroyed, leaving no leads. I expanded the search, pulling footage from all the cameras on the surrounding streets, but still came up with nothing."

"After we confirmed you were Elle’s biological mother, Master Sterling had me reopen the investigation into that night. Fortunately, the footage I pulled from the surrounding area was never deleted. We spent two days sifting through it all again and finally found a lead."

Easton Rivers took out his phone, enlarged a photo, and placed it on the coffee table in front of Shirley Wentworth. "Miss Wentworth, it’s this man. He’s a director at The Oakhaven Hotel. He could have easily helped you get into Master Sterling’s room and then erased the hotel’s security footage afterward. In fact, I’d bet the drug you gave Master Sterling was also provided by him, correct?"

Vivian Quinn froze.

’The Oakhaven Hotel?’

’How can that be such a coincidence?’

’My eighteenth birthday party was held at that very hotel, and my... incident... happened in one of its rooms, too!’

Shirley Wentworth remained composed, flatly denying the accusation. "Are you implying that I deliberately drugged Jett? I refuse to accept such a baseless charge!"

"Miss Wentworth, we’ll find out if it’s baseless or not once we bring this man in for questioning. Of course, he’s a friend of yours, so he’ll naturally try to cover for you. But let me be blunt: few people who fall into Master Sterling’s hands dare to lie."

"How dare you!" Shirley Wentworth couldn’t hide her indignation. "Are you threatening me?"

"This isn’t a threat. It’s an investigation."

Shirley Wentworth sneered. "Let’s follow your logic. Say I did deliberately drug Jett. What would my motive have been? To blackmail him? To marry him? If that was my plan, I would have come to the Sterling Family demanding accountability the moment I found out I was pregnant. I wouldn’t have gone abroad, given birth alone, and waited until after Jett was married to return."

"I’m sure you all secretly think I’ve come back with a child to destroy Jett’s family. If I wanted to become the lady of the Sterling household, I could have made my move long ago, don’t you think?"

"Not just anyone can be the lady of this house," Jett Sterling said flatly. "Shirley Wentworth, you want to stay in Aethelgard with the child and send him to Sycamore Bay to live with me for a few days each month. That arrangement would do nothing but disrupt my life, so I will not agree to it."

"I’m offering you a choice out of decency. If you don’t want to accept this courtesy, I can make the choice for you."

Wendy Reeves grew frantic. "Jett, Elle is one of us! He can’t be kept away from the family..."

"This is not your decision to make," Jett Sterling cut her off coldly. "Mother, don’t make me repeat myself. My patience is wearing thin."

Wendy Reeves had no choice but to fall silent again.

Shirley Wentworth closed her eyes and said through gritted teeth, "Jett, I truly didn’t expect you to be so against having Elle in your life. If I must choose, then of course I won’t give up my son. In two weeks, I’ll take Elle and go. I will never bother you again!"

"No!" Wendy Reeves shot to her feet. "No one is taking my grandson away!"

Jett Sterling ignored his mother and kept his eyes on Shirley Wentworth. "This is my family’s business, and I will handle it. You may leave now. If you’re willing to admit what you did back then, I’ll have a bit more respect for you. If not, I’ll continue the investigation. But when I find hard evidence, things will not end pleasantly."

"Jett, you’re right, things between us won’t end pleasantly. But my conscience is clear, so investigate all you want." Shirley Wentworth stood up. "Now, if you don’t mind, please take me to say goodbye to Elle."

Shirley Wentworth gave Elle one last look, then quickly departed.

Elle, however, was very well-behaved. He didn’t cry or make a fuss and just happily went off to dinner.

That evening, Vivian Quinn lay in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Jett Sterling walked out of the bathroom, drying his hair. He lay down beside her. "You’ve been distracted all evening. What’s on your mind?"

"Have I?" Vivian Quinn snapped out of her daze. "Jett, you said that what happened between you and Shirley Wentworth... it was at The Oakhaven Hotel?"

"Jealous?" Jett Sterling gently pinched her cheek. "I told you, it was an accident. She drugged me. I didn’t even know it was her."

"I wouldn’t say jealous... It’s just..."

An indescribable emotion churned inside Vivian Quinn. ’It’s a ridiculous thought,’ she mused, ’but how wonderful would it have been if we were the ones who had that accidental encounter back then?’

"It’s just what?" Jett Sterling pressed. "Vivian, I know this has been hard on you. But you should have told me that my mother was pressuring you."

"You know?" Vivian Quinn sighed. "I actually understand her. She cares most about you, and after that, your child. It’s only natural that she’d want me to leave for Elle’s sake, so he can be with his own father and mother."

"Don’t make excuses for her. I won’t allow anyone to try and tear us apart."

A smile curved Vivian Quinn’s lips. "No one can tear us apart. In fact, after everything that’s happened, I can see even more clearly how much you care about me."

"Vivian, nothing that happens can scare me. The only thing I fear is you being unhappy."

Vivian Quinn thought for a moment before answering seriously, "To be honest, it does feel a little awkward, but it’s not a big deal. Even when I do feel uncomfortable, I can usually work through it. And if I can’t, I promise I’ll tell you. The most important thing between a husband and wife is communication, and I’ll always make sure to talk to you."

"Good." Jett Sterling kissed her on the forehead, his voice husky. "Vivian, have you..."

"Have I what?"

The man’s voice grew even deeper. "Is your period over?"

Vivian Quinn swallowed nervously, a blush creeping all the way to her ears. "What are you thinking?"

"What do you think?"

"Not yet..." Vivian Quinn whispered. "Probably another two days. Why are you in such a hurry?"

"I am in a hurry..." The man’s lips brushed against her ear, his voice low and gentle, as intoxicating as aged wine. "I want to have a baby with you..."
