Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 150: The Biological Mother Appears
Jett Sterling put down his chopsticks. "Let’s talk outside."
Ian Sterling looked at Vivian Quinn curiously. "Aren’t you going to go listen?"
"There’s nothing to hear. He wouldn’t hide anything from me that I’m meant to know."
Ian Sterling: "..." ’Why do I feel like I’m being force-fed another public display of affection out of nowhere!’
"If you won’t listen, I will!"
Ian Sterling got up and went into the living room. Jett Sterling clearly wasn’t trying to avoid him and asked Easton Rivers directly, "Speak."
"Master Sterling, we found the driver who brought the young master to Sycamore Bay. He said he was just paid to do a job."
"Whose money did he take?"
Easton Rivers hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Miss Shirley Wentworth of the Wentworth Family."
Jett Sterling’s brow furrowed slightly. "How could it be her?"
Ian Sterling was also stunned. "Uncle, you’re in deep trouble now! The Wentworths and the Sterlings have always been rivals. Now that Shirley Wentworth has had your child, the two families are even more hopelessly entangled!"
"No one will think you’re mute if you keep your mouth shut." Jett Sterling shot him a look and continued questioning Easton Rivers, "What else?"
Easton Rivers nodded and reported, "I’ve looked into Miss Shirley Wentworth’s whereabouts for the past three years. She’s been living abroad, and there’s no record of her working anywhere."
Ian Sterling chimed in again, "The Wentworth Family is so rich, she doesn’t need a job. It’s perfectly normal for her to have a child in secret."
"Master Sterling, Master Ian is right. I checked the local medical records, and there is indeed a birth record for her from over two years ago. It was nine months after you returned to the country and had your accident. At that time, Miss Shirley Wentworth was also in Aethelgard."
Jett Sterling slowly closed his eyes. "So, you’re trying to tell me this child is mine and Shirley Wentworth’s?"
"Barring any surprises, yes," Easton Rivers said. "Flight information shows that Miss Shirley Wentworth returned to the country with Young Master Elle three days ago."
"Uncle, I remember Shirley Wentworth is pretty good-looking, isn’t she? Wasn’t she the top socialite in Aethelgard? Beautiful and talented. It’s better that Elle is her son than the son of some random woman. Try to look on the bright side," Ian Sterling tried to comfort him. "You got her pregnant in a hotel, right? That’s better than having a kid with a hotel maid, isn’t it?"
Jett Sterling opened his eyes, his sharp gaze slowly sweeping over him. "Say one more word, and get out."
Only then did Ian Sterling resentfully shut his mouth.
Jett Sterling’s long, elegant fingers tapped lightly on the armrest of his wheelchair. "Where is Shirley Wentworth?"
"She didn’t return to the Wentworth estate after coming back to the country. She’s staying in an apartment under her own name." Easton Rivers asked, "Master Sterling, shall I have the car prepared?"
"No need." A faint smile touched Jett Sterling’s lips. "She sent the child here for a reason. Why should I be the one to make the first move?"
Easton Rivers nodded. "I understand."
...
After Vivian Quinn finished her meal, Ian Sterling immediately pulled her into a corner and told her everything.
"Shirley Wentworth?" Vivian Quinn frowned. "That name sounds so familiar, like I’ve heard it somewhere... Right, I heard it from Rachel Quinn. I think she’s very envious of this Shirley Wentworth."
"Shirley Wentworth is the most famous ’it girl’ in Aethelgard. It’s normal for Rachel to be envious."
"So this Shirley Wentworth is Elle’s mother?"
"Yes."
Vivian Quinn lowered her eyes, lost in thought.
"What’s wrong?" Ian Sterling asked. "Are you feeling upset? Don’t worry, Shirley Wentworth isn’t as beautiful as you."
"That’s not what I’m thinking about." Vivian Quinn’s voice was heavy. "Before, when I didn’t know who Elle’s mother was, the discomfort wasn’t so bad. But now that this person has appeared, I really do feel very uncomfortable."
"That’s normal. Most people can’t accept their husband having a child with another woman. The fact that you haven’t thrown a huge fit already shows how magnanimous you are."
"Throwing a fit won’t solve anything." Vivian Quinn collected her thoughts and asked, "What did Jett Sterling say? Is he going to look for Shirley Wentworth?"
"I thought he would, too, but he’s very calm about it. He’s not planning to go find her."
Vivian Quinn nodded. "He probably doesn’t want to be put on the back foot."
"Looks like there’s a good show coming up!"
...
Elle adjusted well to life at Sycamore Bay. He was adorable, chatty, and utterly charming, turning all the maids in the house into his little fangirls.
After spending a few days with him, Vivian Quinn also grew to like him more and more. She spent most of her time playing with him every day, which made Jett Sterling a little displeased.
That night, Vivian Quinn came out of the bathroom, lay down on the bed, and kissed the corner of the man’s lips beside her. "I’m going to sleep. Good night."
The man closed the book in his hands and turned to look at her. "You spent the whole day playing with him and didn’t spend any quality time with me, and now you’re just going straight to sleep?"
Vivian Quinn: "..."
It slowly dawned on her. "Jett Sterling, you can’t be jealous, can you? Jealous of a child who’s just over two years old?"
"I’m serious. I don’t plan on letting him stay here for long, so you don’t need to be so fond of him."
For some reason, Vivian Quinn’s heart suddenly ached!
"What’s wrong?" Jett Sterling noticed her expression change and immediately asked, "Did I say something wrong?"
"No." Vivian Quinn didn’t know what was wrong with her either. "Jett, I can tell you don’t like Elle."
"Mm." Jett Sterling didn’t deny it. "Many things aren’t decided by blood ties. This child’s existence isn’t necessarily a good thing."
"Is it because his mother is Shirley Wentworth?" Vivian Quinn asked curiously. "I heard from Ian Sterling that the Wentworth Family and your Sterling Family are rivals."
"Yes, so this matter isn’t that simple." Jett Sterling put down his book. "So, Vivian, you don’t need to pour too much affection into this child. He doesn’t belong here, and he doesn’t belong to us."
"But he’s your child, after all. You have no idea how smart he is. Even though he’s only a little over two, his intelligence is higher than that of some four or five-year-olds."
"That’s not a reason for you to like him." Jett Sterling said sternly, "Vivian, you don’t need to accept this child for my sake, much less convince yourself to become his stepmother. I won’t put you in a difficult position."
Vivian Quinn swallowed. "But I’m not accepting him for your sake. I genuinely find him clever and cute. I like him from the bottom of my heart."
Jett Sterling: "..."
"That just proves it’s in your nature to like children, not that you only like him specifically."
"I don’t think so..."
"Alright, let’s not talk about him anymore." Jett Sterling kissed her brow. "Go to sleep. I’ll go with you to the hospital tomorrow."
"Mm."
...
「The next day.」
Vivian Quinn finished stewing some chicken soup, filled a large thermos with it, and left the house with Jett Sterling.
The two of them got out of the car at the hospital entrance. Just as they were about to go inside, a gentle female voice suddenly called out, "Jett?"
Vivian Quinn’s steps halted along with Jett Sterling’s. She turned to look in the direction of the voice and saw a figure standing in the snow that was hard to ignore.
The reason she was hard to ignore was her exceptional aura; she was the kind of person who would shine in a crowd.
A young woman in her twenties wore a white cashmere coat and a pair of mid-calf high-heeled boots. A few snowflakes dusted her white beret, making her look even more ethereal.
As she drew closer, Vivian Quinn finally saw her face clearly. It was impeccably exquisite, gentle, and poised. Judging by her looks alone, she was the epitome of a wealthy, beautiful socialite.
"I never expected to run into you here." The young woman smiled and extended her hand. "Long time no see."
Jett Sterling didn’t extend his hand. He simply said in a level voice, "Let me introduce you. This is my wife, Vivian Quinn. Vivian, this is Shirley Wentworth, the eldest daughter of the Wentworth Family."
