Veil System: Running a Model, High-End Escort and Marriage Agency-Chapter 29: Settling In
Chapter 29: Settling In
The office was eerily quiet again, the soft hum of the AC the only thing keeping the silence from turning uncomfortable. Justin slouched in his chair, fingers running through his hair, trying to shake off the last remnants of that adrenaline high. Damn, that had been too close. Selena had him on the ropes—questions flying, her eyes sharper than a damn hawk. But somehow, he'd managed to dodge the bullet again.
A low chuckle escaped him, half-proud of how slick he'd been. But deep down, he knew Selena wasn't buying the whole "I'm just doing my job" routine. She never did. She had this way of reading him like a book, and no matter how fast he flipped the pages, she was always one Chapter ahead. That was why he loved her though—she always kept him on his toes.
Just as he was about to kick back and soak in his victory, the door clicked open again.
Adams stepped in, all smooth confidence, like she owned the place. He noticed the glint in her eyes though, a little sparkle that screamed, "I heard everything." She didn't even bother trying to hide it.
"Everything alright?" Justin asked casually, his voice smooth like butter on a hot pancake. He leaned back in his chair, trying to act like there wasn't a million things going on in his head.
Adams tilted her head slightly, a sly smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "Yeah, everything's fine. But... I couldn't help but overhear the tail end of your little conversation with your aunt. Looks like she keeps you on your toes, huh? That's something I can use to have you give me a round every morning since i am very active in the morning!"
Justin leaned back even further, trying to play it cool, but he could feel a slight bead of sweat tickling his neck. "Oh yeah, she's just doing her thing. You know how she is. Keeping an eye on me... as usual." He didn't address her other issue and only smiled at it. He would be more than welcome to do that.
Adams raised an eyebrow, lips curving into that "I know something you're hiding" smile. "If that didn't make you sweat, I don't know what would."
Justin let out a short laugh, feeling a bit more at ease now that he had someone to joke with. "Believe me, it did. But it's all good. She's just... worried, you know? Can't blame her."
Adams leaned against the door frame, folding her arms. "Worried, huh? Is that what we're calling it now? I thought she was gonna send you to confession with the way she was grilling you."
Justin snorted, holding up his hands in mock defense. "Hey, I'm not that bad. It's just that charming thing I've got going on. Too much for her to handle sometimes."
Adams shot him a dry look, clearly unimpressed. "Right. Sure. Charming."
"Okay, okay, you got me," Justin said, a smirk dancing on his lips. "But it's nothing. Just... family stuff. You know how it is."
Adams pushed off the doorframe, walking over to her desk, and set down her things with a little more precision than was strictly necessary. "Yeah, I know. But—" She turned back to look at him, her eyes narrowed, "—what about you? How much of that is real, and how much is... performance?"
Justin paused for a second, realizing what she meant. "What? You think I'm pulling some stunt for her?" He chuckled. "Nah. It's just... Selena. She's always been like that. I don't mind. I appreciate every part of it."
Adams didn't say anything for a second, her eyes scanning him, making sure he wasn't lying. "Alright then," she said, nodding slowly. "But let me know when your whole life becomes one big act. Might be fun to watch."
Justin laughed again, shaking his head. "You've got it all figured out, don't you?"
Adams shrugged, the corner of her lips curling into something almost like a smile. "I mean, I do have a pretty good read on people."
"Yeah, I know," Justin replied, leaning forward, his tone suddenly a bit more serious. "And I trust you. Just keep it down, alright? I don't want any more surprises today."
Adams shot him a wink, already diving into her work. "No promises, but I'll try. Can't promise I'll keep the fun to a minimum though, I wonder how fun it would be if I blow you down the table while she's question you..."
"Looking forward to you try that, Adams." Justin smirked, watching her as she settled into her new space. A new kind of chaos had officially begun, but this time, he was looking forward to it.
The office door swung open with a soft creak, and Justin glanced up from his desk just in time to see a couple of movers wheeling in a set of shiny new furniture for Adams. The sound of wheels against the polished floor echoed in the quiet office as they maneuvered the heavy items into place.
The movers set down a sleek desk and a comfy-looking chair—way too plush for someone like Adams who could probably make do with a folding chair and call it a day. As they started arranging everything, one of them shot a glance at Justin, asking, "You sure you want all this boos?"
"Yeah," Justin replied, leaning back in his chair, arms crossed. "Let her have her way. I'm not dealing with her complaining she doesn't have the right vibe in here."
Adams finally looked up, smirking. "What? You think this stuff is going to make me soft?" She shook her head, standing up and stretching as she walked over to inspect the new additions. "Nah, it's all about the energy, baby. Can't work in a place that feels like a damn morgue."
The movers exchanged looks, clearly trying to suppress laughter, before they brought in a couple of plants to add to the decor. One of them jokingly asked, "You want us to put a disco ball in here too?"

"Yeah, make it happen," Adams shot back without missing a beat, pulling the chair into position and taking a seat. "The whole office can party with me."
Justin shook his head, grinning. "Alright, alright. Let's not go overboard. No flashing lights, okay?"
"Just wait," she teased, tossing a playful wink at him as she spun in her new chair, "You'll thank me when you're actually able to find your paperwork under all this... feng shui magic."
The movers laughed and got to work, leaving Adams to settle into her corner with her plants and new desk setup.
Justin leaned back in his chair again, watching as she effortlessly made the office her own. He wasn't sure whether to be impressed or worried about the level of chaos she was about to introduce, but one thing was for sure—this office wasn't going to be the same again.
