Twin Treasures: The CEO Wife's 99-Day of Revelations-Chapter 1068: Doesn’t Want to Meet
In the villa’s living room, the family had just finished dinner and were chatting lively about interesting things from abroad.
Gigi and Dolly were playing with toy cars. The living room was spacious and bright, and the siblings had particularly good driving skills.
Some of the adults were sitting on the couch, while others were about to take their seats, creating a scene of happy harmony.
Suddenly, Justin Kingston’s phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID but didn’t pick up immediately.
Mrs. Goldman? Could something have happened to Monica Usher?
"What’s wrong?" Mia Lane asked as the phone kept ringing, "Why aren’t you picking up?" Then she glanced at the screen, "Is it Mrs. Goldman?"
Mia Lane looked up, their eyes meeting.
The ringtone continued.
"Hurry up and answer it. Did something happen to Monica Usher?" Mia urged, "It’s dangerous for a pregnant woman."
Justin Kingston swiped to answer and put the phone to his ear, "Hello, what’s up?"
"Mr. Kingston." Mrs. Goldman’s frail voice came through, "Ms. Usher is outside your compound. She probably wants to see you. I called because I couldn’t bear it."
"..." All the warmth in Justin Kingston’s eyes vanished completely.
Afraid he might hang up, Mrs. Goldman quickly added, "Mr. Kingston, please let me say a little more! Ms. Usher is in a particularly bad state. I feel she’s depressed, just gritting through it for the child."
"She hasn’t spoken a word for a week, completely shut herself off, Mr. K..."
"Mrs. Goldman." Justin Kingston gently cut her off, "Tell her to go back. I won’t see her." With that, he hung up.
Mia Lane felt a slight jolt in her heart, "Tell her to go back? Monica Usher is here?"
Justin Kingston neatly put away his phone, the corners of his mouth curling into a smile, "Come on, let’s wash some fruit." Saying this, he put his arm around her shoulder and led her towards the pantry.
Mia Lane stopped him with a pull, "I’m asking you, is Monica Usher here?"
"Yeah, she’s outside."
"..."
The couple exchanged glances, and Mia suddenly felt a bit sorry for Monica Usher, especially against the backdrop of the festive atmosphere, "Are you... sure you don’t want to go see her?"
"What’s there to see?" Justin Kingston retorted, completely fed up with that woman, "Don’t try to persuade me, I know what you’re gonna say, but I, for one, will only see my wife, no other woman!"
Mia Lane felt a warmth in her heart, her lips curving into a slight smile, "Fine, then I won’t push you towards her."
Justin Kingston reached out and tapped her nose, "That’s more like it!" A hint of a smile tugged at the corner of his lips, "Let’s go! Mom brought yellow plums and red pears, so fresh. I’m telling you, you have to keep your distance from Trevor!"
"Fine, fine, I’ll remember. You’ve told me that eight hundred times!"
With his arm around her, Mia Lane walked alongside him.
Outside in the courtyard, within the cool night breeze.
Monica Usher didn’t intend to interrupt, didn’t think of joining in that revelry. She looked at the distant lights, her heart full of envy turning into a mistiness in her eyes.
Her mind kept replaying the moments shared with Justin Kingston, accompanying him on business trips, working alongside him...
They had once been intimately close.
If seven years ago, that night, Mia Lane hadn’t appeared, it would have been her, Monica Usher, lying beneath Justin Kingston, bearing his child.
How wonderful would that have been?
But alas... time cannot be turned back, and destiny has already played its tricks.
"Ms. Usher, shall we go back?" Mrs. Goldman gently said to her, "I just called Mr. Kingston."
The evening breeze blew softly, bringing Monica Usher back to her senses. She turned her eyes to Mrs. Goldman.
Mrs. Goldman said, "Mr. Kingston... he’s busy, doesn’t have time to come out to see you."
Hearing this, Monica Usher’s heart ached suddenly, and she murmured, "How busy could he be? He just doesn’t want to see me."
